Currently booking an Air BnB for a September visit to Portland. Assuming you wanted to see many breweries but not necessarily any one in particular, what brewery/part of town would you prioritize? Bonus points if you can add some great stops near your reply. We will not have a car if that helps.

    Thanks all!

(And yes I do realize that Portland is basically one big beer district  )

Upright, Hair of the Dog, Modern Times, Wayfinder and the Cascade Barrel house are all pretty close together. Widmer isn't all that far away either (from Upright at least). If you're in that general area anyway, then you'll be reasonably close to Growler Guys, Baerlic, Green Dragon/Rogue, Beermongers and the Apex as well.

That should probably be enough to keep you busy for an afternoon or two. :sunglasses:

Between Mass Transit, City Bike Rentals and Uber you should be able to get to 95% of Portland Breweries within 5-15 minutes if you stay anywhere centrally located. The brewery density is one of the aspects of Portland's beer scene that makes it unique.

This ^^^^^ This pretty much describes my beer crawl whenever I'm in PDX. Throw in Bailey's and the Upper Lip for good measure. It's an easy walk. You don't have to drive.

Agree, either inner SE Portland (close to the river) or inner NW Portland. If you're close to the streetcar then you can get between those two areas easily. If the weather cooperates, it's actually a nice walk as well.

And if you happen to be over at Bailey's/Upper Lip, you can easily include Deschutes, Von Ebert, Lardo/Grassa/Beer O'clock and even Rogue Hall in the mix. As @ppilot mentioned, the brewery/taphouse density in the downtown area is pretty impressive.

True that. Deschutes seems to be too old school for some people but I always seem to get in a visit whenever I'm in the area. Last time I was there they were selling bottles of 2014 Mirror Mirror. You never know what you might find.

Agreed. Plus the food is always pretty decent there (at Deschutes). I actually prefer the food over at Lardo/Grassa, but there's nothing wrong with the cuisine at Deschutes. The biggest problem I have with Deschutes is how popular the damn place is. Waits of up to an hour to get a table are not unusual in the summer time on weekends, even at relatively odd times of the day (like 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon).

This is my issue. I think it's one of the best brewpubs in the city but its national popularity make it a "must visit" for most tourists. Also there's no happy hour, which is another selling point for Lardo. The good news is that when there's no room at Deschutes you can easily walk a few blocks to 5 other breweries.

LOL! So true. In fact, before heading over to Deschutes, the wife and I always discuss how long we're willing to wait for a table, and what our fall back plan is for a meal if the wait is too long (and the last couple of times, it has been too long). It's never been a problem finding a suitable alternative on those times when Deschutes is too busy.

Hey man, I just got done with a bachelor party that I planned last week on the eastside. We hit Wayfinder, Loyal Legion, Modern Times, Cascade and coulda hit Rogue and Growler Guys too; they're all within 15 minutes, and the Airbnb was just down the road too. I'll DM you some more info if you'd like!

I wrote a post in the "Pearl District" thread that you might find useful if you find a place near the streetcar line.
