Mickey's Mean Green! One of the beers I lived on in college many moons ago. I still love a couple "barrel mouth" bottles of this stuff a couple of times a year.

Because of the weird laws about buying singles here I had to choose between a six pack of grenades or a 40. It was an easy decision.

He approached that 40 with more trepidation than someone considering a summit attempt on Mt Everest.

The best part for me was when he showed concern for spilling 3 or 4 drops on his tabletop.

PS: you are the leader in the clubhouse for “Post Of The Year.”

New beer # 2 hails from Relic.
The Cocoon Tropical IPA brewed with Mosaic and El Dorado hops.
Pours a golden hazy yellow- much like pineapple juice. Head is off white and tall, lowering rather quickly. Lacing is spotty.
Smell is of candied pineapple, mango and peach.
Taste is, you guessed it lots of overipe pineapple and candied mango, some dark berries that have sat overtime on the shelf...The sweetness outweighs the pleasant bitterness.
Feel is medium to thick, filling, with light carbonation but dries slightly on the sweetish finish.
Ive enjoyed many from Relic but this is not quite up to many of their great beers. It hits the mark as a tropical IPA I suppose. You will like this if you like juicy, sweet and fruity beers. Its almost like the the syrup in canned pineapples or peaches.[IMG]

Yeah. I found myself yelling at him. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve bonged that much beer. I will admit that I had not seen the straw trick though. Basically shotgunning a bottle

    Happy New American IPA Sunday!

Pretty nice day on the Western Slope, trailhead was around 90, sunny. Having a pretty tasty brew today, been a while since I've had something new from them. Picked up some chicken tacos. Might be back with another.

Re-reviewed Indepence Tall Boy DIPA, 8.5% ABV This can is only two weeks old, but my rating only went up .01 points, 3.91 over all. Forgot I already tried/reviewed this when I purchased said beer

Re-reviwed 7-29-2018 this batch is less than 2 weeks old

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of ivory colored head. Stays effervescent, above average head retention & lacing

S: Citrus, grapefruit & pomelo, fades a touch once warm

T: Follows the nose, plenty of breadyness too, plus dryness. Cakey dryness as this warms, grapefruit & just a touch of pear & white grape as this warms. Finishes crisp, dry, cakey & citrussy

MF: Fairly chewy, pretty firm carbonation & good balance

Drinks fairly easy, but you will feel the 8.5% ABV. Solid take on the style

I've had this in the fridge for quite a long time, maybe a couple of years. Not exactly "aging," more like procrastinating. Anyway it looks like a stout but is described by Founders as a black IPA aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels.

I find it a little sweeter than I prefer but not bad. I don't detect any obvious bourbon or maple flavors. I don't taste anything the least bit hoppy or similar to an IPA. It certainly tastes like a stout and brings to mind KBC and Bourbon County Stout, the latter which I also find to be slightly sweeter than I really prefer. I've been primarily enjoying IPAs the past several weeks so my palate may not be appreciating all the Project Pam has to offer. But I'll have another go at it tomorrow as I don't think I could finish this big bottle in one evening.

    Bell's Sparkleberry Ale

This beer is brewed to show support for various Michigan LGBTQ pride events. It was one of the beers featured in this BeerAdvocate article, which spawned a heated forum thread.

The idea of a Belgian tripel with raspberries does not appeal to me, but I'll try anything that Bell's brews.

I was pleasantly surprised by the beer.

It's a striking ruby red color. Carbonation was surprisingly mild. The taste was even more surprising. I expected it to be sweet but it’s not. It’s very dry and even spicy. Thinking I was crazy, I looked at Bell’s site. They say it’s “slightly tart, dry and spicy.” Wow, mission accomplished, that’s some crazy synergy.

The fruit here completely defines the beer - so I agree with the classification here as a fruit beer rather than a tripel. I expected it to be classified here as a tripel - so this beer is just one surprise after another.

If I had this blind, I’d say it was cherry flavored. For some reason, it feels like cherry more than raspberry.

For what it is, this beer is a total winner as far as a drinking experience goes. The social aspect, community aspect, and “reason for being” are more complicated issues, but there’s plenty to like here. Cheers.

NBS! Always a pleasure to join this group.
I've been on both a dark beer kick the past couple of weeks (odd given the month but I can't help my taste buds) and also a bit of a Jackie O's kick recently. Coincidental or not those to go hand in hand so well?

This one came out late last year, a collaboration with To Øl. Brewed with 120 gallons of honey per the label.

First of all I love the label. Given the honey it's definitely geometrically like a honeycomb. Shout out to the artist Corey Lippitt. Pours a very dark brown with next to no head. Smelling the beer and you'd think I had just mixed up a batch of chocolate cake batter or brownies while they're still liquid. Also tons and tons of honey. The honey is also the first taste that hits your mouth and the last thing on the finish, but in between there's cocoa, bourbon, caramel and vanilla. Very complex. Definitely sweet, full-bodied but the 12% alcohol is dangerously well hidden. Regardless the sweetness makes this one a sipper that I've enjoyed taking some time with as I typed up both my review and this post. Definitely well-crafted and tasty.
    Cheers!
