@dmbforever figured I would tag you here. Not sure if this should be moved to the bad trader threads? I know it wasn’t an official trade, and until we get the other side, it’s hard to know for sure, but it certainly feels like it should be a bad trader thread at this point.

I had a similar situation where the mods were thankfully able to help. I understand how these casual agreements can get sticky, which is hard. Hopefully he comes through, dude I was trading with was apparently going through a horrible personal time and got completely unreachable.

 

Sorry to hear about this man, really weird. What were the beers you sent in the most recent box?

 

Definitely not a name I expected to see in here. Hopefully everything is okay on his end.

 

People are saying “I hope he’s ok” and while I agree, you have to imagine with all the interim trades, regular logging on and beer ratings, that there’s a certain level of ok-ness happening vs a dropping off the face of the earth type of scenario.

 

I’ll add my two cents. While nothing was lost or gained here, I have had a trade with him in the past and was working on a second. I had picked up a few extra bottles at a release after we had chatted about a second trade. He was going to get back to me in a bit with what cans he could offer. Never heard back after 3 or so messages. I just ended up deleting the convo and traded the bottles away.

This all happened within the last month and a half. He was super communicative in our first trade, generous....not sure what happened, but seems like he just fell off a bit.

Just competed a trade with OP too. Great guy, great communication, understanding. This all just seems odd

 

I notice his last post was sometime in late December. Was pretty active prior to that. He did review a good amount of beers in the first week of January though.

 

He was on the site 1 hour and 47 minutes ok and reviewed beers on here 5 days ago! Very strange.

 

I appreciate the additional detail in this post and others, because it speaks to the expectations associated with repeat traders. Very often, this evolves into a relationship with unspoken, potentially one-sided expectations.

I've only got 30-ish trades on BA, but as an example, I had one fabulous BA send me a very generous box (i.e., a 6-shipper of bombers worth well over $100 at retail) a couple months after a single trade and a few subsequent messages, but without a formalized trade agreement expecting anything specific in return. I was blown away and thought this individual construed my message that I would love to try one [of three different Cycle stouts] as meaning that I wanted one of each, rather than a single bottle of any of the three.

I enjoyed all three of them, to be clear, but also made sure to quickly communicate about it and send a box with a commensurate number of Revolution Deep Wood cans in return, which we had previously talked about. However, there was no explicit agreement about that trade, and we never made it official in the BA system. We're both happy, I would love to trade again in future, but I can imagine a circumstance like that which could turn out very differently if both parties weren't amenable to continuing the relationship.

Once you're in the situation of sending a 4th or 5th box without explicit expectations and obligations, I'm very sympathetic, but I don't know if it automatically fits the definition of a bad BA trader. But if there were communicated expectations, it's any BA's responsibility to live up to them.

 

I admire your well written posts and attitude! It’s hard to rationalize him ignoring your beer mails and texts, not to mention not sending you the beer.

Yeah, but anyone with the level of trading experience we all have, including OP and the tagged trader know the deal here. It seems pretty clear, not only from the OP's version so far but also their last messages together, that a box was expected and supposedly coming soon (as of 10/26/18). We also all know that if one of our regular trade partners dragged us into here, we'd be here giving our version of events and or working quickly to make it right. Not logging in, ignoring messages, and rating beers. That's very odd to me. I have a handful of regular trade partners and I'd never do this to them, and I'd like to think, vice versa without some real explanation.

Which leads me to my next point. I said I hope he's okay because there have been BT threads where the tagged trader had some form of life-altering tragic occurrence. But those folks certainly weren't logging onto BA like he is. Definitely doesn't look good to date

 

I agree with that completely! Ghosting for two months is never acceptable, unless you've just been posted on a nuclear submarine and have been a few hundred meters undersea with no internet. I've seen plenty of the alleged BT's posts in the past, so I'm totally comfortable with simultaneously questioning this behavior and hoping that everything is OK in real life.

He was on here like 2 hours ago, so...after that, checking in sent beers in January 2019 and ghosting a trade partner, I'd say everything is OK in real life and that the clock is ticking.
