    Tree House Doppelganger

Pours an entirely hazed orange color with a solid, medium head atop.

Smells of wet leaves, ice bonbon and ripe oranges. Offers an additional fruit ripeness, resulting from papaya, pineapples and lighter tangerine.

Has a smooth medium mouthfeel, with a nice carbonation spark during the finish, ensuring a great refreshment.

Tastes of bitter lemon pulp, sun ripened oranges and additional mango, amped up by cactus juice and unripe tangerines. This complex, fruit forward first impression gets enhanced by an ongoing bitterness and the beer‘s smooth mouthfeel, guaranteeing a well balanced enjoyment. Finishes with slightly fermented, sweeter fruit and lighter lime, still producing a satisfying, bitter finish.

Nice dipa with a fantastic flavour depth and a well established mouthfeel, with just a little unpleasant hop burn at the back end, which I find quite surprising for a world class brewery like tree house.

Another great day off so I wanted to drop a quick one on a beer I couldnt resist buying.
    Finbacks Double Something Simcoe
Pours a beautiful orange-gold, slightly hazy with a snow white small bubble head that settles to a ring.
Aroma is awesome! Lots of overipe pineapple, ripe peach, tangerine, blueberry, passionfruit and damp pine.
Flavor follows with juicy fruit and berry notes in the front with nice earthy pine in the finish. Nice complexity of flavors.
Finishes with no hint of alcohol and perfect carb throughout. Has a nice dry and pleasantly bitter piney finish. Very easy to drink this 8.5% brew.
A very enjoyable IPA from one of the top brewers. Tough to make any hop stand alone but they have hit the mark here. Tasty brew.[IMG]
    @LarryV .....Great tune

I’ve seen this one posted a lot so I was pretty excited to try it.

Life and Limb a collab between Dogfish head and Sierra Nevada - what more could you ask

The pour is clear brown and in the glass the beer is very dark brown with over 3 fingers of very light tan head billowing over the top of the glass. Aroma is very faint but intricate and enjoyable, if you can stick your nose in the glass. Toffee, caramel, maple sweetness. Taste is kind of muted but exactly the same, however that goodness is kind of tainted by a metallic hint. Back from the dead! After the metallic bite, the finish keeps on keeping on for minutes. Sweet maple, caramel, maltiness continues to grace my taste buds and ALMOST saved the beer. Mouthfeel is thicker than medium, but not by much. Slick, slightly prickly, a little coating forms on the roof of my mouth. Overall I’m enjoying this beer and it would be excellent if this stupid metallic taste wasn’t in my mouth.

Edit: after reading everybody else reviews I think I might have got a bad can and I want to try another one of these

English Old Ale | 11% ABV

    4.1/5 rDev -1.7% | Average: 4.17
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

    2019 version--- abv 10.5%

L- The beer pours a deep amber bordering on brown. The head is a couple of fingers of off white foam which recedes to a thin film. Lacing dots the sides of the glass.
S-The nose is slightly sweet caramel with a some booziness which I assume is from the brandy barrel.
T- Like the nose there a sweet malt presence as expected in an English Old Ale. The barrel cuts the sweetness somewhat and takes it in a different direction leaving slightly fruity apple aspect, although it's light. Alcohol presence is minimal.
F- Mouthfeel overall is on the lighter side of medium. It is slightly warming and drinks very easy for a 10.5% beer. Carbonation is light after the initial pour.
O- A nicely crafted 10.5% beer. Balanced sweetness and a light barrel presence make this one more approachable than a lot of other beers of this ilk. Recommended.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. I hope you're all enjoying the long holiday weekend. This was our traditional full week at the Shore but unfortunately I had to combine more work with pleasure than I'd wanted. I've been stockpiling Stouts at home but I didn't have anything NBS-worthy in the fridge down here so I bought a bottle of this "Wild Saison" brewed by Brotherton Brewing, which is located in the Jersey Pine Barrens. Brotherton is best known for its stellar unfiltered IPA and a really good Stout but the brewery seems to have been going a little sideways lately. I've read that its lead brewer left and that it's taken a lot longer than expected to open the promised tasting room.

Earthbound is described as "a mixed culture Belgian-style Farmhouse Ale Fermented in Red Wine Barrels." The bottle may be as old as 18 months and the taste doesn't deliver on the fruity promise of its nose. The cherry and apricot have faded and it's overly bitter. Sadly, this isn't in the same league as the wonderful spontaneously fermented beers that The Referend Bier Blendery is producing here in New Jersey. My complete review:

    3.74/5 rDev -5.3%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. No bottle date evident. It pours a cloudy, almost opaque, dirty apricot color with a thin, creamy bright white head and film of lacing. The nose is bright a fruity: red wine grape, wild yeast, cherry, apricot, lemon, and coriander. It smells more like a Wild Ale than a Saison. It's hard to tell the age of the bottle (except with reference to its addition to the BA database) but it's not nearly as sweet as the nose would indicate. The cherry and apricot are mild and subdued. There is a lot of tart citrus and I can taste the red wine barrel notes. The wild yeast is breadier than I expected. It's quite sour but there is also considerable bitterness. It has a pleasant mouth feel: much creamier than I anticipated and yet the carbonation is lively. Overall, I'm not sure what to make of this "Wild Saison." It may be age but the fruit seems to have dissipated. Its best attributes are its smell and feel but I was disappointed by the flavor. Brotherton brews some fine beers so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume this one was past its prime.

I'm looking forward to reviewing stouts and other seasonal brews as we turn the calendar to fall. Cheers, NBS!

Good evening NBS and thanks to @lordofthewiens for the start today, glad the ceremony went well. As for family, were born with some we collect others, and it all settles out in the end.
Today's offering is from our trip to the Connecticut coast, first the beach the to Stony Creek Brewing, nice place, busy, and the offerings are largely solid.
This is the Big Cranky, a welcome take on the classic west coast big boys.
    Cheers all

    Big Cranky Double IPA

American Imperial IPA | 9.5% ABV

    3.9/5 rDev -0.5% | Average: 3.92
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a can purchased at the brewery. Date of canning is 8/28/19 so within a week.
A - Beautiful clarity, honey colored steady carbonation feeds a lasting white cap, excellent retention.
S - Pine, orange peel, dried pineapple. sweet grains, all with an alcohol vapor providing the lift.
T - Citrus to start, with the medley of orange, pineapple, apricot all candied, conifer thread included some nice pine, and spruce, with a hint of burnt sugar.
M - Medium in body, carbonation cant keep up, so a slow building slickness develops. The alcohol is on full display, no hiding the 9.5%. Linger is surprisingly grainy, which I like
O - As advertised a big West Coast IIPA, and well executed I might add, If bold is your thing then this offering sings your song. Great hops balance against the solid grain bill, and it is not shy.

Drank a bit too much yesterday (whoops), but back with a couple new ones today. At least... I think this is new to me? I've never seen it in bottles around here anyway, but I may have had it at an Ofest celebration before. Needless to say I don't really recall having it before, so it's basically new to me anyway!

Pours a beautiful, completely-clear golden color with a nice, dense/creamy head of pure white foam. Little streaks of lace here and there. Not much to say about it, but it's a good-looking festbier for sure!

Nose is crisp grains, some light floral notes, wheat, apples and pears with a bit of a light kiss of honey and ethanol in there. A touch crackery with a definite Pilsner-like malt base. Yum!

Flavor is a bit more full-bodied than I expected, with a lot of floral and fruity/ester elements. Apple, pear, fresh-cut grass, honeyed bread crust, light sugary flavors and crackery grains. Super easy to drink with a surprising firm hoppy bitterness in the finish. Light-medium body and bright, snappy carbonation. Would like to get more of this. Like I said, I don't think it's as common in the US as the Paulaner Märzen, which is one of my favorite Oktoberfest beers, amber or otherwise. It's officially September, so we're coming up on the right time of year for these. Cheers, and I'll be back with one more new one before signing off for the day!

Back to a hazy IPA for new beer #4, and it's a second beer I've added to the database today, despite the canning date being almost 2 months old (in this case).

Today, I've ranged from New York, to Jacksonville, to Chico California, to Boston, and now to my hometown, Miami. This is Indefinite, a self-labeled "Northeast Style" IPA by J. Wakefield, but clocking in at session IPA strength, at 4.5% ABV.

I'm not a huge fan of session IPAs, and this one has most of the problems as the rest (that being a presentation in line with hoppy seltzer water). Going "New England style," however, definitely thickens up the body a touch, giving it more of a pronounced mouthfeel, really more in line with an APA or IPA in the 5.5-7.0% range.

It can't make up for the lack of heft in flavor, however. A wonderfully deep and hoppy nose comes across too thin on the palate, with vague tropical and citrus impressions failing to leave a deeper impact, along with a mild-to-moderate dankness.

Enjoyable? Sure, and fans of session IPAs should be thrilled to have this available. I need more out of my IPAs, though, and for the sub-sub-style (Session New England IPA?), it's quite damn good, but I won't be picking up a four pack.

Hope everyone had a good Sunday so far. Did my usual bottle returns and laundry for the day. Probably need to do another load tomorrow as I skipped a week. My right hand is still partially paralyzed and it is infuriating.

Drafting Table Coffee With A Blonde. Excellent stuff. Nice fluffy head retention, spotty lacing. Aromas and flavors of big nutty medium roast coffee, honey, white bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, pear, red apple, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and chalky roast in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, minimal warming 6%. Awesome balance of clean pale malts, fruity/nutty coffee complexity, and earthy hops. Mild residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Not as yeasty as I expected, but spot on style. 4

This is Cat Nap by Memphis Made. I stumbled upon this at Trader Joe’s yesterday while I visited every home goods and similar store in Memphis yesterday with my wife.

Appearance is a hazy but translucent lightly burnt orange color with a billowing plume of orange tinted head. Aroma is STRONG OJ, tangerine, nectarine, and peach. Aroma is freaking excellent. Taste is OJ, sweet peach, and a little bit of bitterness. Mouthfeel is two hairs below medium, smooth, and soft. Overall this is a middle of the road offering. Aroma was amazing, however that was the highlight

Dugges Mosaic Citra. Excellent hazy APA. Great fluffy head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, red apple, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body. Creamy/bready/grainy malts, some sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no cloying/astringent. Very smooth/soft, minimal warming 6%. Awesome Citra/Mosaic profile as expected. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized pale/wheat malt backbone for the ABV. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. No complaints. 4

Finback's Double Something Simcoe is my second and final new beer for this NBS, and what a beer it is! As you'd assume, this is am 8.5% DIPA dry-hopped exclusively with Simcoe. I recently split a can of Simcoe Bomb by Sloop with a friend, and that was absolutely amazing and super-saturated with incredible Simcoe character, so I'm in the right mindset for this one. I went into this with some expectations because I've had regular Something Simcoe before, but was hoping the higher ABV would make it even better than the already-good original.

Pours a little clearer than I had anticipated, but still looks pretty cloudy once it's all in my glass. Not opaque, but heavily translucent, let's say. Good medium golden color. Very voluminous head of chalky white foam that leaves behind great, chunky lacing. Decent legs and semi-cloudy surface. I dig it.

The nose has a ton of ripe papaya and mango with a helping of white grapefruit, peppery ethanol notes, and resinous pine. Simcoe is known for its pine and grapefruit elements, for sure. I never really associate it too closely with tropical fruit (though I know some people do, so who knows?), but this smells great! Almost has a cattiness to it, and the ABV is certainly not held back by any means.

Yup, this is definitely Simcoe-forward, I will hand it to Finback here. Freaking intense and powerful dank resinous overtones meld with slight crackery malt and a little bit of chewiness. Lower carbonation and a bit heavier in body than anticipated, but very fun to drink for sure. Bitter swaths of grapefruit rind and grassiness toward the finish. Ends pretty dry and quenching, making me want to go back for another sip after each I take... yum. Great stuff, and pretty much a strict improvement over regular Something Simcoe. Now I want them to make a Double Something Nelson or Double Something Mosaic. Let's hope my dreams come true some time soon! Cheers!

    New Oktoberfest Sunday (Week 758)
Wanted to find some shrooms for supper tonight. No luck. Wanted to get the Duvel triple hop, no luck But... I saw this and jumped. In the name of honesty I must say I had this beer back in home brew club many years ago when my two friends first made it. These two friends still make it, but as the founding and present brewmasters for Mill House Brewing. Embarrassed to say I haven't tried it since then. I am in the strange position of feeling weird to have to pay at the store for cans of beer I used to drink free, and. conversely, also not wanting to go through the embarrassment of Jamie or Larry always insisting to tell the bartenders at the brewpub I drink free. So, hopefully I can get a pass, this technically is not a "new" beer. Mill House Brewing Marzen/Oktoberfest
    [IMG]

Medium strength aroma, grainy honey bread meets lightly spiced sweet roll that is very alluring.

Med./full strength taste, which is remarkably the same as the aroma predicts. It is even sweeter than the nose, but it is all about honey bread and spice rolls, well balanced and cleanly presented.

Viscous for style, low carb. for style, full bodied for style, with a finish that is a bit oversweet. Had to ding it here. It would benefit from additional carb. and a bit less of a sweet build on palate.

Quite delicious example of the thick and sweet version of the style that uses some righteous Noble hops to balance. Will likely drink this 4pak much too quickly, it's grown on me as I finish this glass.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Next up, I'm staying with a low-ish ABV offering from J. Wakefield, and it's another one I had to add to the database (3rd today!): Dreadnaught, a coffee and lactose sweet stout.

At 6.5%, this is another fairly low ABV brew, not likely to knock you on the floor. You'd never guess it by the taste, though, as it's pulling no punches there: plenty of coffee, cream, and brown sugar and light roast from the malt base. Relatively thin and drinkable, but quite impressive at the ABV.
