Mirrors my experience completely. The first thing I noticed when I opened my 3rd bottle last night was a garlic/onion aroma. I thought it might be my wife cutting onions in the kitchen, but I still perceived it in the beer when I went into the other room.

I found the same thing with this beer in previous years, so I’m not surprised. I’m not sure what Lagunitas does to cause this, since I haven’t had this issue with other wet hop beers, but I don’t entirely hate it. I, for one, don’t mind a little onion character in my IPAs, especially dank ones.

Good call. I'm going to finish what I bought, but then I'm back to Celebration too. First 1 was great though. You should totally talk a friend into buying a sixer and then bum 1 off of him.

Thank you for the prompt on the Celebration. I just checked the SN beer finder and it's at the Safeway 2 miles away. C'ya and cheers!

I had my third bottle earlier this evening and yes the onion aspect was there (even a bit more than bottle 2).
In contrast I am not a fan of this ever increasing onion character.

    Cheers!

I...don’t think this reminds me much of 2016. It’s fine. Good even. It’s not remarkable.

Almost through a case of Born Yesterday. I dig it for what it is a very tasty hoppy beer for a reasonable price. I'm not getting the onion flavor but I was always a fan of it especially in Oskar Blues Gubna.

Im going to shop for some brew tomorrow and I might be tempted by some shiney new 4 packs of the newest NEIPA but for the ~$40 do I want 8 tasty beers or 24. Maybe something else will catch me eye. Hell my go to store could be sold out.

I agree with you when it comes to regular IPA's, but we're talking about wet hop/fh beers in this thread I thought. We see quite a few of them in the NW, and it's remarkable how quickly some of those beers evolve (and typically not in a good way). While they don't go "bad" in just a couple of weeks, a lot of them can lose most or all of their wet hop character in that time. As that's typically the whole reason you purchased the beer to begin with, it makes sense that you would want to try to get it as fresh as possible.

In the case of the BY, I don't think the beer has a whole lot of fh character to begin with, so I tend to agree that getting this beer super fresh shouldn't be that big a priorty. As always, YMMV.

Just grabbed a six pack of this and am drinking one now. Not bad at all. It's been a couple of years since I've had the last incarnation of this beer, but it's about how I remember it. Very aromatic, a hint of the onion that some people are getting, crisp and refreshing.

Overall it's a beer that I'd buy a few times a year if it were available, but not something that I'd purchase all the time.

It's ok, but I think it's no longer a beer worth getting excited about.

What would be the point in a Born Yesterday using extract? I’d assume if it’s a fresh hop it should be fresh hop, no extract. I probably won’t see it, but if they do use extract why buy it, and I wouldn’t. Curious if this is true.

I assume that the extract would be strictly for bittering, whereas the fresh hops would be used for flavor/aroma. That way the amount of vegetal matter in the kettle is reduced, plus the IBUs should be more predictable. Wet hops also cost more, so it would be pretty wasteful to boil them. I wouldn’t expect anyone to use wet hops for early boil additions.

I had the second bottle and could only finish 2/3 of it, dumped the rest...clearly this year's is just not my thing.

Had 2 last night. $9 for a six pak. Very good beer.

Even though it went downhill after about 2 weeks, this was still my favorite. My 2019 Wet Hops ranking is as follows (and fairly Minnesota centric):

    Lagunitas Born Yesterday
    Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere
    Castle Danger Mosaic
    Indeed Fresh Hop
    Deschutes Chasin' Freshies
Surly Wet (too herbal for me this year)

Decided to skip Founders this year even before the debacle because they are incapable of getting it distributed to MN until like 3 to 4 weeks after bottling. Pathetic.

I broke down and picked up a 6er of this. IMO, it's pretty good. It's not out of this world, but it sure isn't less than mediocre as some reviews have suggested.

Better than many mass produced beers I've had within the last year.

Not quite. Reference my comments from my first bottle earlier in this thread. The onion/garlic and astringency did not mix well with my palate and almost just as importantly the smell was off to me.

Mosaic is one of those hops that I will either like or hate how it is used in a beer, no in between for me.
