Looking forward to more barrel-aged sours, mixed fermentation stuff, and, as always, knocking back some of their flagships and one-offs in 2020.

This place deserves their own thread separate from Jack’s Abby.

I could go either way on this to be honest. And not because I think the place necessarily doesn't deserve their own thread, but I think information on Springdale releases could easily be put in the Jack's Abby thread. With a title of "Jack's Abby/Springdale (2020)" or something similar.

Otherwise I feel as if the New England forum will simply become a "X Brewery (2020)" forum. Simply because there's so many breweries now (with more opening all the time).

Also, it's not like the Jack's Abby thread is 100 pages long like the Tree House thread.

But I'm cool with it either way, just a thought.

I splurged on a magnum Gilded & Aged, a mixed fermentation golden ale aged in wine barrels and fermented with grape must and Champagne yeast, for NYE. Split between six of us. It was funky, effervescent and deceptively drinkable at 11%. Certainly didn't taste like a high ABV beer.

I really think Springdale has begun to hit their stride for these mixed fermentation/BA sour beers. And while I love the fruited stuff like apricots and raspberries, this is the type of stuff I want to see: mixed fermentation, barrel-character or stainless steel, ingenuity.

I agree, it would certainly be great to have another option for non-fruited mix fermentation stuff.

Though low traffic threads will trickle down and out of the way so really it shouldn't matter. If a thread becomes just announcements and no discussion then its unnecessary.

I'd also add that breweries that don't have their own thread are talked about less. This is kind of in a gray area with the connection to Jack's (in terms of needing its own thread) but for actually pumping volume of generally quality stuff, I'm surprised Springdale isn't talked about more. I mean, it's not really a pet/side project anymore.

While true, 12 out of the 30 threads on the first page are brewery dedicated threads. And no one has started a Bissell and Alchemist 2020 thread yet, which are two of the more popular ones.

Not to mention the Notch, Von Trapp, Lamplighter, Foam, Oxbow, Idle Hands, Foundation, Castle Island, Nightshift, Allagash, Maine Beer Co. and Tilted Barn threads have yet to be revived, just to name a few recent ones.

But at the end of the day you're right. Or the mods will reorganize as needed, as they did by closing all threads that were old/tagged with "2019" on them.

A lot of the breweries you mentioned deserve their own threads. If there isn't much interest, the threads will sink to the bottom. We're on a site called Beer Advocate and I imagine that having threads for these different breweries will encourage further discussion and tip people off to check out these breweries and their beers. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Like I started the Ocelot thread in the South Atlantic forum because I didn't want to keep talking about Ocelot with others in the Aslin or DC thread. I don't think that creating new threads is bad as long as there is interest.

Surprised you didn't start a Notch thread yet, by the way.

So much for it being his favorite brewery...

Not sure why Allagash was closed, as the year was not defined; nonetheless, Bardus is returning, so a more broadened thread was generated

@Sheppard ,all fair points. Like I said, doesn't really bother me either way, just some food for thought.

Ha, good catch about Notch. I was actually going to get it going for their Kölsch night, but I forgot. I also think it happened already.

As much as I love Notch though, I'm not really a big "dedicated brewery thread" guy. As I feel outside of Trillium and Tree House, there isn't really enough weekly buzz to warrant them. I'd rather see a "What's Happening in Mass?" thread akin to those started for Vermont and Connecticut. And plunk down information for the less hyped breweries there.

But again, it all seems to be working, so carry on.

    Now...about that Notch thread...

They also closed threads that hadn’t been replied to in a long time, or long standing threads like the Beer Shop Finds one.

Allagash might have applied to either of those scenarios.

I'll buy this. On the other side, whoever started the Allagash and Oxbow threads last year did it right. Post new releases, some people chimed in about what they liked, etc. The TH thread is essentially inside jokes.

Yeah, the only downside is...and especially with those two companies who have great social media teams (especially Allagash)...that they disabled embedding social media on the site.

I believe they closed any thread that appeared to be "brewery" type thread from a previous year. They requested us to add the year to the thread to make closing easier going forward.

There was actual reasoning for it. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/media-embedding-has-been-disabled.627644/

Back to Springdale, count me in the camp that wants more non-fruited funk options in their sour lineup. That said, the Pear Reviewd I have right now is fantastic and unique.

    What do you mean?

I never venture over to the Tree House thread. I just assume it's full of people who don't know anything about beer.

    Kidding...sort of.

Posting that Notch Instagram post was a pain in the ass.

I had to take a screenshot from my phone of the picture, then of the text, post both on Imgur, and then embed them into my post.

Would have been easier on my desktop, but Imgur disabled their desktop feature.

    hahaha
Yeah, I've been linking to stuff in the limited opportunities to post media I've had since the change. It stinks, but I understand that BA doesn't want to be a social media aggregator nor should it have to pay for housing the media. Plus, site performance is important. I did really love the way those posts embedded onto this website.
