Had some time so brewed another whole hop ipa, but this time, I ran the hops thru a old Victoria mill somebody gave me and wow, the scent was super fantastic. If the beer turns out good I'll b doing more of it. The mill roughly shreds the hops, does not powder them but I'm betting the ground hops give more flavor/ aroma especially late kettle additions

I went last year and it was rad! Only like 30 people showed up, though. (It was a rainy weekend and there were fresh hop festivals happening all over OR at the same time.) I'll definitely go again this year if it actually happens.

As for steam-sanitizing using the Robobrew, I simply put a hose through the hole in the lid, clamped the lid down, and boiled some water. Rinsed the barrel and put the other end of the hose inside the bung hole, then used some paper towel to stop it up. Steamed it for an hour or so, until the barrel surface got hot to the touch, dumped out the residual water/gunk, let it cool, and filled it.

Took the FG sample today. 1.010. Very slight, pleasant caramel malt note. I think there is enough roast character to make it recognizably close to style, but I would prefer a little more. I think the pearled black malt maybe was too subtle for the style, at 1# per 5 gal, but I guess without the C40ish malt, the roast might stand out more.

Big Brew Day started at midinight. I waited until 3:30 AM when insomnia got the best of me. I didn't actually brew either of the Big Brew recipes:

    American(?) Pale Ale
    1.045, 45 IBUS
    94% Briess GoldPils Vienna
    6% light caramel pils (Avangard)
    Perle Bittering
Mandarina Bavaria, Huell Melon, Hallertau Blanc flavor, aroma, and, eventually dry hop

Starting May 8th, it will be legal in some PA counties to have an event like this (up to 25 people). Sadly, I don't live in one of those counties.

Brewing up something close to a Berliner Weisse. Have not decided exactly what I will do with this beer, I'm very tempted to use it as a batch to blend in with my saisons to add some tartness and additional complexity.

Testing out Omega Jovaru on an extract batch. Wanted to do all grain but rain this afternoon has shortened the amount of time I'll have. Definitely a different beer than what I intended to brew, but I'll still get a good feel for the Jovaru.
