I check on dates with Stone because it really is a prototypical ipa, so I’m always hopeful. One of my favorites, but I cut it off at 2 months. For Union Jack it’s three months and even that’s unlikely, if I only bought 2 month old UJ I’d never find it, and I think it suffers a bit at 3 months compared to the competition, so I usually opt for Pernicious and be done with it.

No, you do you , Raul! Cheers!

^- New all-time favorite sour IPA.

The non-sour, fruited IPAs are the only ones with a low ":+1:" rate for me.

Here, they're in the walk-in cooler, on the singles shelf, in one of the middle (chest-high) rows.
Got one in December? (January?) , for the first time ever. Still, >2 months old, but that's the best I've ever seen, so gave it a shot.

I don't know with the Coronavirus situation if we're going to see a pause in the explosion of IPAS for the summer. I hope we could buy again some fresh IPA maybe brewers will stick with their classics and not try to make tons of new IPAS

You missed the latest craze! Canadian IPA! Brewed exclusively with Sasquatch hops! Not to be confused with Canadian Pale Ale, brewed with Red Fife. How are these not categories here yet!?

OP, there is nothing wrong with that.

A well made IPA is great to drink. Having tons to choose from keeps it fresh, I would hate to have minimal choice and drink the same thing over and over.

We’re allowed to like both? I’ve been told so often that liking any of the newfangled hazy types is indicative of an immature palate (sometimes even palette!). Next you’ll tell me I can drink the same beer more than once!

I had some on cask while watching the Reds take on Norwich at the Victoria Freehouse in Philly...t’was tasty.

From memory that beer has regularly been served on cask, via gravity pour, at the annual Yards Real Ale Invitational. It was scheduled to occur this year (Sunday, April 19 2020 12:00 PM — 4:00 PM) but I am supposing it got canceled this year.

Hopefully next year (April 2021) this will happen again.

    Cheers!

Never been to another Wegman's , but if there is some consistency, wanted to give you a target. I often get distracted by all the rest, & forget that the walk-in is there.

Unfortunately no walk ins at any of our Wegmans, at least in this part of PA (southeast).

I just got back from grocery shopping at my local Wegman's and I stopped by the Beer section to see if there was any fresh Stone IPA. To my amazement (and great surprise) there was indeed fresh Stone IPA on the shelf:
    • Six-packs of bottles which were packaged in April
    • 12-packs of can which were packaged in April
My desire was to just purchase a Six-pack but those bottles were priced at 13 bucks. Whoa!?!:astonished:

The 12-packs of cans was more reasonably priced at 20 bucks (10 bucks a six-pack) so I decided to go BIG here and buy the 12-pack.

Thanks go to @nc41, @ESHBG, and @mikeinportc for providing me the motivation to look at Stone again. In the recent past every time I saw Stone beers at my local Retail Beer Distributors they were old (over 3 months old). It is nice to get 'lucky' here.

    Cheers!

P.S. John (@John_M), this is my beer purchase for this week; a non-local beer.

Looks like Brut is the dog so far and rightly so. I have tried 4 and need no more.
I gave them favorable reviews for being true to style, which means missing something.
The few Brut Champagnes I have tried had a little balancing sweetness.
It's my least favorite style so far. Fans of dry Martinis (gin & a drop of dry vermouth) might like this stuff.

    Done ranting, Cheers.

That's impressive. I can't even recall the last time I saw Stone IPA that fresh in a store (even out here).

A couple of years ago, my wife and I were down in Santa Rosa, and I wanted to grab something to sip on in the hotel room. There was a Trader Joe's right next to our hotel, so went there. I grabbed a bomber of Stone IPA, figuring something like that in California was bound to be fresh. Nope. The beer tasted a bit off to me, and I subsequently discovered it was 6 or 7 months old. I haven't gotten a bottle of Stone IPA since.

John, it has to be more like 4-5 years since I last purchased a Stone IPA. I feel very fortunate to luck out here.

I did not look but I presume this beer was brewed in Virginia.

    Cheers!

If you find it fresh its nice to be amazed again. There’s no tricks with this beer, it’s just a great beer that’s straight forward, a bit fruity, nicely bitter, doesn’t strain the palate. Enjoy, that’s a nice find, but sixes here are $10-11. But I keep looking.

I agree Raul. I like them both. However I have not been impressed with brut or milkshake ipa’s. Brut tastes like a weird clean lager to me, and the mouthfeel of milkshake reminds me of artificially sweetened saliva. I haven’t been brave enough to spend $ on a sour ipa yet.

Funny you should bring this up, as I just recently swung heavily back into hazy, juicy NEIPAs again, despite believing I had sworn them off forever these past few months, in lieu of West Coast IPAs. The only thing I've learned is that my palate is fickle. I'll probably drink nothing but NEIPAs for a few weeks and then go back to WCIPAs.
