To be honest, I like Pizza Port but I think they’re overrated. They’re fine and tasty but nowhere near a top tier brewery. I also don’t share the fondness for Madewest. What I’ve tried has been pretty forgettable, price aside. I’d rather throw in a few extra bucks for anything from HPB, Modern Times, or something similar. HPB’s west coast IPAs have been particularly killer lately. And they’re usually around $17.

I thought the Strata Swell and Surf series were very good. I don't generally find Modern Times shelf stuff compelling, and tend to prefer MW hazy. HBP has been doing great, though their WC go for around 21 or so (Hello LA was that I think).

I got a crowler yesterday of a citra-mosaic beer I believed was Confirmed Goodness, but I think I am wrong, since the latter is supposed to be citra only. It's now gone from their website though. Any idea what it was?

It wasn't that special. I missed on those cans, alas. :slight_frown:

No Stress was meh. 90h I really, really like.

I have four cans left of The Pupil, which is super tasty still.

I really, really hope DDH Achiever comes out again soon. That was fire.

I think their culture and presentation is quite different than SARA: they are much closer to a lambic-like funk profile, with a heavier use of aged hops, and more efferverscent presentation. Also, heavily leaning toward wine-beer hybrids lately.

I think their beers are incredibly interesting mixes of the american wild ale/saison school spearheaded by HF, SARA, Jester King, and others, who emphasize the straw-hay barnyard funk and yeast, with the metallic, coppery funk of a lambic. Which is amazing. Some of the most interesting wilds in the world right now, and more experimental than most.

But their IPAs have really let me down. I tried Spots and Dots a while back and thought it was world class, and a couple others that were lesser in quality. I just tried Rainbow Belts, Flavor Crystals, and Donde Esta la Playa? this weekend. The latter was the best of the bunch; super tropical, juicy, low bitterness, but tasty. Ripe pineapple on the nose. Low carbonation.

Flavor Crystals, which I am having right now, is incredibly disappointing. A pretty standard hazy, of the sort that one would expect to find in shelves at a supermarket at a far lesser price. Aromatically very dull, sweet, low bitterness, a bit malty... Rainbow Belts was a malty, full bodied sweet mess of a beer. Homage should not put out beers of this quality, considering what they are capable of.

Le Vainquieur was interesting: it poured like a murky water, with no head or signs of carbonation. Beige-brown, it was a murky, dirty, funky beer, which was however super tasty. I don't know how on earth hey can call it a freaking flanders, though. Saison du Maison was a great example of their staple hybrid American wild ale / lambic presentation, and probably the best beer I had from them.

Isolation was delicious too. Thick, sweet, with roasty notes. Delicious all the way.
