I actually rather enjoyed this because I'm a huge fan of Black IPAs and this has got quite a similar vibe to it with the bitter, resinous hops and roasted presence, be it malt or coffee, with the zesty citrus hops somehow working in this as well, at least for my palate.

Certainly looks tasty that one. I can almost taste the raspberries just looking at it.

Thanks! It’s only dawned on me that you share your own guitar solo and video, good stuff too! I like that we all try to share some of our little talent here and there, reviewing beers, drawing or being musicians.

On a slightly related note I have been mainly drinking smoothie styles beers recently and it seems like raspberry is by far the most popular fruit used at almost all the breweries making these heavily fruited beers. I wonder if there is something easier about the process or maybe raspberries are cheaper or maybe people just really like raspberry.

Windows or Sandisk betrayed me now. Transferring photos from the memory card to the PC, and only two files completed before Windows decided there was not a recognizable file system on the card. Effing great. So you get a shitty pic where I was taking a picture of a weird black spot on the can.

On the bright side, Boss Tweed is a tasty beer.

I've run out of reasons to delay opening my first beer for the day. Fresh Hop Singing Bird from Hopworks Urban Brewery in Portland. Just delicious. Cheers!

Trillium makes different fruit and mixed fruit variants of these beers, but I have noticed that raspberries are probably the most concentrated fruit taste in sour beers. For me, the big difference teller was with similar aged Mikkeller Hallo Ich Bin series beers that I shared most of with my brother. They are all the same beer with different fruit additions, and raspberry was single handedly above the rest in terms of aroma and flavor concentration, and I think it was the same percentage of fruit in each beer. Something about raspberries are extremely pungent in a sour beer at least, even more than blackberries a similar fruit.

Side note, growing up we always had multiple raspberry bushes in a couple different parts of my family's yard. The raspberries were always abundant, too much to harvest every year, and they grew back automatically every year without much maintenance at all. We got blackberries and blueberries in the later years, and we had to put nets around them because birds would flock to those berries for some reason, but not the raspberries. This might translate to bigger farming and harvesting, though I'm sure most spray or if they don't, use netting or something else to keep away birds and rodents, but I find it interesting that our raspberries never had a problem without nets or anything, and the blackberries and blueberries were furiously attacked to the point of not having many berries for a season at least until the bushes got a little bigger and we used nets to keep birds away. Raspberries could just be in abundance and possibly be cheaper and widely available.
