So every once in a while I like to look at the top 250 beers. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see BBT at all. This can't be true. Ive had this side by side with KBBS and BBT3 absolutely blew it away. Have there not been enough people on BA to rate it that would prevent it from getting on the list? This in my opinion is a top 10 beer. Thoughts?

The thing about BBT is that it's a very different beer every year, aged in different barrels for different amounts of time. Because of this, it has vintage entries, with the previous vintage retired every year.

Since retired beers do not show up in the Top 250 and it can take a while for the current vintage to gather enough ratings to qualify, if it manages that at all, you do not see this beer in the Top 250 very much.

My guess is many don’t even know what BBT is, I don’t. If most don’t even know what it is then I can’t see it getting enough rating to make the top list.

    Enjoy

    Big Bad Tuesday?

    Some sort of Epic/Bruery collab?

    No idea either...

It started off sorta low profile but it's grown a lot in popularity, especially this year. Regardless, it has huge ratings from nearly everyone who tries it. That's probably what the OP was referring to.

Yeah, it would help if people knew what it was. You just gotta convince all those folks buying to start reviewing it here, and it might make the list.

If all years of B:B:T were consolidated, it would probably sit between KBBS and Handjee as the #1 or #2 rated beer. B:B:T is unique, being a single crazy sought-after title, yet slight variations in its recipe each release. I personally think it's too big and identifiable to break them up and rob it of a top 250 spot (or top 2), but I do understand the Pulling Nails view on it.

    Hell of an underdog, though.

its a weird one, that would probably be all under one listing but for the fact that Side project has made it very clear that each iteration is a different beer. Thats why they are all listed separately here.

Careful, this has all the fixings to become a rehash of the CW Black Gold dustup of yesteryear. Even the brewery rep stating it's a slightly different beer with each release due to the unique characteristics of the blending process didn't keep it from being compiled into one listing. Why would BBT fall into a different listing treatment here on BA according to the same parameters that make Black Gold one compiled listing?

Edit: To be clear I fall into the separate listing camp for both BBT and BG since if each year is a different blend it stands to reason they would be different beers.

I can speak on the Black Gold stuff as that was not a conversation I was a part of. I do think BBT is different than black gold since it’s a different beer each time. Slight variations due to blending don't make a different beer. Completely different barrels, time, and such can if that’s the brewery’s intent.

The conversation ended up coming down to what the brewer's "intent" was supposed to be with each year's release after the goalposts were set, toppled, then subsequently moved several times. It was an...interesting...discussion featuring my supporting role as angry fanboy #1. It was in the CW thread at some point (last year? Early this year? I don't remember). If you enjoy good beer drama - and who of us doesn't - it's worth a read.

My point is if the brewer "intends" for BBT to be a different beer each year and CW does as well then fair is fair yes? If we are just going to go on the highly subjective and wholly unreliable criteria of individual taste I would say both beers in question here taste pretty damn the same to me through each release (to be fair I only had B1 and B3 of BBT and Black Gold many times). The CW anniversary beer is essentially the same beer every year in the same sense as Black Gold but each year gets a separate entry only because they are labeled differently. Is BCBS the same exact beer every year? There are a million hairs that can be split a million different ways. Lol
