Do they still make Poolside or has that given way to something else?

I believe they still do. Lawn Boi is their other summer seasonal kellerpils but uses 100% saaz. The Poolside used saaz and tettnanger and a “Mexican yeast strain”.

to my knowledge being such different beers I don’t believe poolside turned into lawn boi

2021 started with a round of golf, the best I've played in the past month.
Today is clean-up day, and now there's no trace of Christmas in this house.
Now it's beer and football time with my New Beer, Wanderland from Sierra Nevada.
The beer is a clear gold color with a small white head and a bit of spotty lace.
    Faint aroma of sweet fruit.
    Taste of nectarine and peach.
A bit of hops in the finish.
    Meh.

And to be clear, KBS and KBS espresso are brash, and I really like both of them, but I also get the barrel aging in both of those. For whatever reason the fudge just really overshadowed the barrel in this one ...
Oh, that sounds awesome! Was that brewery only?

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned 12/22/2020. Pours a hazy yellow with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves loads of thin lines of lace with excellent retention. 4.25

Aroma ripe melon, passionfruit, hints of garlic, tangerine, and apricot. 4.25

Taste follows cantaloupe, passionfruit, tangerine, apricot, and a little kiss of garlic and I am digging it. 4.25

Mouthfeel is about medium, not dry or sticky, soft gentle carbonation, and at 5.3% ABV it is really crushable, but may drink more like 6%. 4.25

Overall I really enjoyed this easy drinking NEAPA. Nothing too flashy, but a really well made and tasty brew. 4.25

I had G-Bot, and it was definitely in the WCIPA space on my palate, IMHO, which I really enjoyed. And your statement about Heady is spot on - it has "juicy" characteristics, but it is definitely bitter - around 70 IBU's per a couple of videos I watched yesterday that featured John Kimmich.

Not to derail this portion of the thread, but I replied to another thread today about beercations, and after the couple of videos I watched yesterday, I'm going to definitely take Mrs O to Vermont for a vacation once things "normalize" - I've gotta visit Alchemist, H-F, Foam, etc. The Alchemist website listed "limits" on Heady and Focal of 3 cases.

    Each.

    I gots to go!!!!!

I agree. Actually, one of the things I really like about KBS Espresso is it seems smoother right out of the bottle, fresh, than regular KBS. It's still very assertive, borderline aggressive, but I find it just a touch less harsh. Funny enough, I don't get much more richness from the coffee as opposed to regular KBS.

The fudge is definitely the focus in Mackinac, more so than the barrel. That also made it less aggressive for me, but it's still a bolder presentation than CBS. You might say CBS is the refined sibling that got a scholarship to Oxford, while the other three brothers all played football at Michigan - just different positions.

Wow, Tonewood canned a dunkel? When I visited a couple years back it was all ipas on the menu. And they've got saisons and an English mild on the menu now too? Looks like I need to revisit next time I'm in NJ (whenever the hell that will be).

Enough talk of stouts and IPAs; fruited sours are "the thing" right?

Clarification: Le Seul XX is not a fruited sour per the style, which is more for fruit-centric kettle sours that are often labeled Gose and Berliner Weisse, but really don't fall into either of those categories. This is definitely a wild ale / sour, much closer in heritage to a fruited lambic.

It's definitely sour-forward; there's very little funk. The fruit is a nice complement, smoothing things out and adding depth, but a mile away from fruit puree sours.

It's really nice overall. Not the most mind blowing sour, but well worth the handful of dollars I handed over for it (figuratively), and easily worth revisiting. I know I've had Une Annee beers before, but somehow this is the only one I've ever reviewed.

I'm not sure, but I can tell you this:

    1. It's still available at the brewery.
    2. It has been brewed since 2013, so it should come around again (not sure how I missed this in the past).
    3. They also have two FOBAB award winning Barleywines you may be interested for the tasting later this month (2020 and 2015).
    4. They posted a picture of Norm on instagram, glad he is still around (though looks a little older, don't we all).

Better Year Bitter an ESB from Bull n Bear Brewey in Summit NJ. Poured from a growler into a Tulip, Better Year Bitter is reddish amber with an off white head. Nice aroma of malt and hops. Nice flavor of malts and bitter hops. Medium mouthfeel and a lasting bitter finish. A very enjoyable beer from a new but impressive brewery.

Poured from a 12oz glass dated 12/09/20 to a Nonic at refrigerator temperature.
Gold body is almost clear, but not quite. Tiny bubbles rise, Pilsner-like until the end. A small white head caps the pour and stays 1-layer thick for the session. Lacing is minimal.
Aroma is over-ripe to rotten peach. Not bad, but not great.
Aroma is the high point. The taste is of peach but with a fake or medicine-like quality that just turns me off. There is a flash of hop presence on the back-side.
Body is thin, carbonation is appropriate and there is a mild hop oil quality.
I'm a big SN fan and I love nectarines, but this is not what I expected.
