[IMG] Made another haul today from a different shop and got a few more obscure options for the next few days. Some are really old, some are canned this month so I’m not even going to get into fresh VS old because it’s already been established through this thread to me that not only can it be hard to find “fresh” German imports but the not so fresh offerings can still be good, as I found out with last weeks year old Bitburger Pils. I also got a bottle of Pilsner Urquell which I’ve never had but is not pictured because obviously it’s not German, but I figured I would throw that out there just for possible comments from others. Please feel free to comment on what I have here with your opinions. Cheers.

I hope you like the hefeweizen, I actually think hofrbau’s is my personal favorite of the German ones I’ve tried.

I’ve never tried the Konig so I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on that one.

I’ll post my thoughts on each in this thread as I drink them. I’ve so far had one American rendition of Hefeweizen from a favorite local brewery of mine and I loved it so I’m interested to see how this one stacks up and/or compares.

edit: also like to add, the only other Maibock I’ve ever had was Dovetail and I absolutely loved that beer. Also interested how this one stacks up as it’s a bit higher ABV.

I'm not so sure that Hofbrau sent us any maibock this year, so that one is likely to be a year old. However, I didn't look real hard for it this year because my fridge has been constantly full of so many other beers and it's hard to justify adding more. (Even if it's my favorite style.)

I can’t speak for the Midwest but we got it here in NJ, granted I did have to go out of my way to find it. If it ends in a U it’s from this year @BigIronH

I can’t justify it either but it just happens, Tom. Code is LO21U 09:22 if you or someone else cares to decipher. As I’m mentioned previously. I am about as little concerned as possible with the date on these imports because I drank some 1 year+ Bitburger last week and really liked it. I guess only time and experience will tell if that experience carries over to other brands and brews. Cheers brother.

It does indeed end in a u. I appreciate the insight Jon. The full code is posted in my reply to Tom if you care to look.

Although you now know that your beer is a 2021 batch, just fyi for the future, I've had Hofbrau's year-old maibock and it's still a very good beer.

As previously stated I honestly wasn’t worried at all in regards to date. I’ve already come to realize these imports hold up far better than most over hopped local brews I’ve had. I’m impressed with how well they stand the test of time.

If you mean the ones in your pic, I wouldn't exactly call those obscure. But definitely worth trying for the different styles.

Maybe obscure was the wrong term:wink:. Different from what I have seen previously was what I meant.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but either the DAB or the König Pilsener was canned in July 2021? I tend to really doubt that - European brewers usually note that the typical container shipping time across the Atlantic is 1 - 3 weeks, so add in the time it takes to get the container from the brewery to the European docks, loaded and then unloaded at the port in the US and finally transported to the wholesaler and then delivered to the retailer ...

It was actually the Pilsner Urquell with the July date but now that you mention it, it’s almost impossible. Says July/6/21. That must be the expiration date then.

Konig Pilsener >> compared to DAB Export. My go to Export Lager is Jagerbier when I can find it.

I don’t think they had that one in the shop I visited last night but there was a good selection so I will be returning. I drank the Konig last night and found it pretty good. It is one of the older ones I purchased but I still enjoyed it well. Very crisp beer. I’ll be enjoying at least one more of the others today and will report back. Thanks for the recommendation.

Cool. I'll check it out later -- looks like a good source at first glance.
