Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (All 3 out of 3 pairs correctly matched in the blind taste test)

1) Blue Moon LightSky (4.0%): A pale wheat lager from Colorado that has flavors of orange citrus and wheat. Juicy, but drinks light and flavorful. Only 95 calories.

2) Shocktop (5.2%): A Belgian wheat from Anheuser that has flavors of pale and adjunct malts with a light citrus note. Medium-bodied.

3) Bells Oberon Ale (5.8%): A citrus wheat from Michigan that has smooth and gummy flavors of orange, tangerine, and wheat.

4) Surly’s First Ave +1 (5.1%): A blonde ale from Minnesota that has flavors of lemonflower with a smooth and earthy honey malt finish.

5) Breckenridge Hop Peak IPA (6.5%): An IPA from Colorado with Simcoe and Citra hops that has flavors of orange/grapefruit citrus, pine, and black tea. A standard west-coast IPA

6) Hop Valley Bubble Stash (6.2%): An IPA from Oregon with cryo Mosaic hops that has strong flavors of deep, resinous, and dank tropical melon and berry notes.

Winners:

1) Blue Moon LightSky: This one has nice flavors of orange citrus. Juicy and extremely flavorful for only 95 calories. Well done.

3) Bells Oberon Ale: This has a nice gummy orange and wheat flavor profile. Flavorful, while being subtle. The flavors are complex and not overpowering, a quality similar to the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

6) Hop Valley Bubble Stash: The cryo-Mosaic in this IPA has some of the dankest and resinous Mosaic flavors of tropical melon & berry.

Stone IPA

 

Working on this MoAS again after cracking this in honor of @scream last night. Got some buttermilk and hot sauce marinated drums smoke roasting with hickory on the grill.

Tonight's aperitif is a very tasty beer, well above average for me. If you are in Colorado, give it a try before it is gone. This is a bit pricey and in a 4pk of tall cans.

Finkel & Garf - Italian Pilsner - I am really impressed with this beer. Perfecto on the balance between hops and malt. I get an unidentifiable tang with this beer, not like any citrus & similar to the tang from Two Hearted Ale.

Is it the hops or is it the barley that is contributing this tang? There is some hop info in the second pic. I can't even describe it as in a food, maybe a super light malt vinegar but not sharp.

 

White Elm Mega C&D Imperial Milk Stout (Pastry Stout), 12.5% ABV. Pours thick and black with a one finger brown head that left nice lacing. Nose is incredibly strong Oreo. Taste is Oreo, slightly sweet, moderately bitter. Outstanding mouthfeel, overall world-class. This is a renamed and stronger version of their Double Stuffed.

According to the note on the label, an unnamed company sent them a cease and desist order, apparently over their beer named Double Stuffed. So they renamed it, amped it up from 8 to 12.5% ABV, and apparently added more cookies. @hoptheology was correct abut the meaning of the name.

 

I lived on Advil for a long while after I separated my shoulder. Orthopedic doc said it was a grade two separation and surgery was not recommended. So now what is left is a bony lump on the top of my shoulder where the separation from the collarbone occurred, a slight imbalance in shoulder height, and of course the endless clicking of something when I move. Not bad considering what could have happened.

Here is hoping you recover soon. Still plan to be in Richmond?

Tree House - Curiosity One Hundred Sixteen

This is just a damn good New Zealand hop-focused DIPA. I forget the exavt combo, but i know Nelson, Motueka, Huell Melon, and Galaxy are involved. A couple more, too. Ultra lush, tropical, green, and melony.

Grabbed this at the Cape Cod location last week while fishing the canal. Super stoked to have a location on the Canal, since it's an area i actually frequent, and not West Jesus Nowhere Massachusetts.


Also from the Canal - a 23" bluefish. Not a single striper despite my 3 day stay, but I'll take this over nothing. Mean bastards, they are. Safely released.
