So I'm trying a can at John's. It's absolutely exceptional. The Mouthfeel is just lovely, and there's just so much flavor in this 4.8% abv. helles lager, without being over the top. For me, the gold standard for this style is the pFriem helles when it comes to domestic helles. But this beer is making me rethink that. Would be interested in trying those two beers side by side.

10° finally got dropped at Windsor Homebrew after several months, just picked it up today. It's Christmas in July. I'm stoked to finally try it.

Herr Kemper would like a word with you when PNUT opens.

I tend to see two styles of Helles lagers - the crisp, clean brilliant ones like the pFriem, and others that are more raw, rustic and equally gorgeous but in a keller-hell style (if that makes sense, like the Urban Roots. The UR version is something I can see Casey procuring a wooden keg of for Max's German Fest. But yes, this was a true wow moment for me.

So aren't the rustic styles more kellerbier than helles?

They are, but this wasn't as rustic and unfiltered like a true kellerbier IMO. Also, in known for making distinctions where they're are none, so take what I say with a grain of salt :-)

Yeah i thought Fort Georges hazy pilsner was a kellerbier also.( The Meadows).

For what its worth, kellerbier just refers to an unfiltered lager basically. Its a beer tapped straight from the keller (or cellar, see also the synonym zwikelbier where the zwikel is the tap on the lager tank in the keller).

My limited experience is that they are often. Helles-esque but I think that really you can't have an authentic one that's packaged. Supposed to be something you experience at the source

So last two trips to Windsor netted me 10°, EZPZ and Clever Is Enough. I was talking to one of the guys that works there (Alex) about Urban Roots and we both had a similar experience: UR was a brewery we didn't really give any attention but seeing them is almost a guaranteed buy now.

10° was an absolute banger as I hoped and expected, so I'm glad I didn't miss it this time.

I was less enthusiastic about EZPZ but that's no knock against it; it was very enjoyable pilsner.

I'm excited to give Clever is Enough a go. My first spelt-wine which is, from what I gather from reading about it and talking to Alex, in the same family as wheatwine and barleywine but more closely related to the former. Regardless, I'm sure it will be delightful.

I guess I better post this here as well.....

That’s our Oak Foeder (pronounced FOOD-er) and it’s the star of our mixed fermentation program. It can hold 30 barrels of beer at a time and allows us to have more control throughout the aging process vs. aging it in individual barrels.
We still remember the excitement we felt on delivery day 3+ years ago.
Believe or not we’ve only released ONE beer from our Foeder so far and that beer is called In & Out Of Focus.
In & Out of Focus is a beer that was nearly three years in the making and one of the first batches of beer ever brewed here. This Rye Saison was aged in our Oak Foeder for two years during which it was slowly fermented with brettanomyces and lactobacillus.
It was then emptied, blended and cellared for an additional year. The result is a lightly tart Foeder Aged Rye Saison featuring soft notes of spice and fruit with an oaky finish.
In & Out of Focus is a draft-exclusive beer that’s available now here at the pub and at select retailers.

Absolutely loved EZPZ and Hell, but Pitch In On A Boat Party was a miss for me. Exceptionally dry, entirely lacking in bitterness or pronounced hoppiness I would expect. Which IPAs from UR should I seek out? Preferably WC.

Hoping to get to Downtown Sac for this. Oktoberfest. They usually have a UR Mellowwood Festbier on tap.

    LAGER Party

We’ll be celebrating all weekend with the release of our own Oktoberfest beers plus food specials, an Oktoberfest glassware release and guest lagers on draft from our friends at Bierstadt Lagerhaus, Wayfinder Beer, Green Cheek Beer Co, Bagby Beer Co, Moksa Brewing, Highland Park Brewery and more.

Has anybody heard how they're hosting/releasing tickets or whatever for Zwanze. Neither these guys, Russian River Brewing or SARA has announced how we can get into the events they’re hosting
