I was secretly hoping I’d come across some Oktoberfest when I grabbed beer yesterday. None yet.

Left Hand Oktoberfest just showed up in North Texas a day or two ago judging by the pricing labels on the boxes. I've still yet to see any Texas märzens beyond Real Ale and Rahr but I'm hopeful Altstadt will be distributed here first week of August.

I'm kind of glad these are hitting now since it's my favorite style. The weather of late-July tends to not be all that different from late September this far south.

Saw cases of Sam Adams Octoberfest in Sam's Club yesterday (none at Costco), but passed for now, I have not had it for a few years now, and I want to sample it first. I wonder how I find it after drinking so much German stuff.

Yeah, with plans to buy a case of Paulaner, a case of HB, and some Weihenstephan and Spaten I wonder if I even have a spot for 28 more bottles. As in if I can drink it all.

When the Radeberger runs out, look for Grevensteiner.

Better yet, look for it now to compare. I honestly like it better than the Radeberger.

Yes. See link* in my post.

There's also Urban Chestnut, um, Zwickel. if it's in your area.

*Also in .5 liter cans, unlike profile pic.

What do you use for the pumpkin ingredient?

Needless to say but pumpkins won't be ready for harvest for several more months.

    Cheers!

I have brewed a pumpkin ale in August as well....I used canned pumpkin puree, as most brewers do; way easier to use and no stuck sparge! Besides, I see butternut and other squash here in August....which imparts a similar flavor profile (pumkpins are in the squash family)....brewers use what works

Surprised you can get the Radeberger, but not Grevensteiner.

Sucks you can't get UC, it's a terrific example.

It was talked about over on the South region version of this thread, but the July releases seem to have been stunted quite a bit compared to at least the previous 2-3 years.

I expected imports to be pushed back a bit (I gleaned from a local bottle shop that Ayinger Märzen is still about 2 weeks out for DFW, minimum) but the lack of Texas brewed Oktos being distributed has been mildly surprising given how fast out of the gate they were last July.

I wonder if pandemic issues are at play here?

Otherwise perhaps some breweries decided that season creep is not a worthy business strategy? If so, I applaud those businesses! :beers:

    Cheers!
