No pinpoint date, but it's recent.

Fresh stuff should be hitting shelves.

This was my first time with the Anno 1050 and I really enjoyed it. As @steveh said, this is closer to a Festbier style than the typical amber Märazens that appear for Octoberfest. Definitely some good recs there, though Weihenstephaner is probably my fave (of course they’re also my fave German brewer overall). I just started learning German through the Duolingo app in hopes of heading there in Sep 2022.

[IMG] Thank you Chuck! You have really sent me some good stuff in the past but I am enamored with this. Probably my best experience with an import yet! The nose on this I found to be pretty earthy. Some lemon zest. Some fresh bread. The taste was very much toasted bread/biscuit. Sweetness was subtle but it was there. Some hop bitterness as well I believe. Tart lemon in there also. Feel was full but also crisp and very enjoyable. I’m not the best at describing beer but I really liked this. This could be an everyday for me if I could find it relatively fresh. I’ve never seen it in the 2 stores I frequent. Nevertheless, delicious. Cheers all, especially @CB_Michigan who continues to bless me with awesome beer.

Don't forget to bring your piggy bank. This beer costs 16 bucks a six-pack at my local beer retailers.

The 'good news' is I can fairly frequently find it fresh (i.e., before its best by date) but at 16 bucks this is not something I will buy frequently. Maybe never again since I can buy locally produced German Pilsners of equal quality for about ten bucks a six-pack (and those beers are 12 ounces vs. 11.2 ounces).

    Cheers!

I only see TZ on my shelves once in a blue moon, but it's worth nearly any price when I do. There's something about those bottles that captures what fresh German beer tastes like better than any others I've had. Far fresher examples from areas better known for beer, too. Even at 6-8 months old, that magic is still there. Obviously a local place like Bierstadt is even better, but for a packaged product - Rothaus is doing something special/right.

True. I've helped out on some roadside cleanups, no upmarket beers were noticed.
    Nips and domestic AAL mostly.

I think the Rothaus bottles are randomly about 12.3 oz.? Regardless, still a pricey beer.

I am currently out-&-about at Tuman's Tap. Its current draft selections include Veltins Grevensteiner Original (5.2% ABV - 16.9-oz. draft - $7). It tastes pretty good. Have any of you out here had this? :beers:

My wife and I lived a block from Tuman's in the mid 70s. Tuman's was not a place to visit then. We went to Steve's (Oakley and Chicago) for the 3.25 pirohy dinner, a no-name bar on Leavitt near Walton for draft Andeker, and Pete's Rookery on Chicago west of Western in honor of his Ukrainian language Old Style beer sign. Another gentrified neighborhood . . . .
At the time the remnants of the Pfeifer Weiss Beer brewery (later Superior Brewery) was standing at Superior and Leavitt. It was the site of a famous raid during Prohibition.

Sounds like its time for a trip to the old stomping ground. My wife and I lived down the street from Tuman's in the mid-70s. It wasn't an inviting spot to visit then. We went to Steve's (Oakley and Chicago) for 3.25 pirohy, a no-name bar on Leavitt near Walton for draft Andeker, and Pete's Rookery on Chicago west of Western in honor of his Ukrainian language Old Style sign. It's all around this area -- great value, too. Usually see it at $6 a four-pack of .5 liter cans.
