You're right and one would need those stats if they wanted to be accurate. But I just take note of the amount and then when I am in there again how much has moved. And in some places you can tell how long things have been sitting because a small layer of dust starts to accumulate.

And getting a discount on it at a place like Wegmans tells me a lot too, as I never recall that happening before. One benefit is that ME ages well so at that price they may be able to unload a lot.

    It sure does!

Many years ago I just happened to be at The Drafting Room in Springhouse (now closed) on a Friday Evening and they had a Troegs event where they had a vertical of Mad Elf: new, 1 years old, and 2 years old (and maybe 3 years old?). There was a Troegs employee there manning this event. I requested three small pours (and luckily they accommodated me) to conduct a side-by-side-by side tasting. There were noticeable differences but all three beers were tasty. From memory the biggest difference is that the cherry flavor diminished with time but the aged beers had other flavors that developed via aging (oxidation) which made those beers more complex overall.

    Cheers!

Nice! I know others who have done this also and felt the same as you. I should try it sometime, as while I do like cherries I find ME to be a little sweet and it doesn't work well for me with the spiciness of the yeast (which already isn't my favorite, the Belgian Yeast).

Hmm, my memory of this tasting event (occurred over 10 years ago I think) isn't good enough here. Maybe the aged versions were less sweet overall?

If you have the patience to do some aging (and a vertical?) let me know what you think. My guess is that my recent six-pack won't make it to next year(s). Maybe buy a second six-pack for 'science'?

But maybe I'll be blinded by said science?

I was thinking about setting a bottle aside from the few I was given but they didn't make it. But if I ever come across an aged version I'll give it a go.

My local store only had 12 packs of cans, so that's what I picked up. Dated Fresh by 5/04/2022.

Fairly strong hop aroma. Is it better than the cans I had last year? I would say definitely yes. Is it as good as it was 10 years ago? I don't think I can judge that, as my palate has definitely changed over the years.

That canning sounds promising. Thanks for the info.

    Enjoy

Disappointed to not have seen it at my local store in Attleboro MA today. I'm heading out to NYC next week, so hopefully Half Time will have some (a necessary stop on the way)

Double Nugget Nectar is supposed to have a limited distribution this year, as opposed to brewery only last year. It's supposed to drop late January.

Usually it rolls out to new states/areas week by week over the course of a month or so. Some years Troegs has given the schedule , but I havent seen anything like that this year. A friend in upstate NY was told locally that it wouldnt be until February for them.

My memory is terrible...but comparing last years to this years, I'm finding this years to be much more flavorful and with slightly more aroma. 12 pack of cans, freshest by 4/27/22.

I don't know if I could distinguish between a "good" or a "bad" batch-my original review is from 2020 although I may have had the beer in 2019 after a long hike up a mountain where just about any liquid would have tasted delicious.

In the four years that I've had this beer, I've always found it enjoyable, but this years (at least this batch) seems to have a little more kick. YMMV and all those other disclaimers. Cheers!

I had a 10 oz. glass of Nugget Nectar with lunch with a very good friend (whom I hadn't seen in a while) at the White Dog cafe in Philly. The beer was absolutely delicious. I bought a six pack and it tasted like just another good IPA.

What was the best by date of your six-pack? Was it bottles?

    Cheers!

I noticed that they moved this beer from brewery only to the once a year section and hopefully I come across it, would love to do a side by side like I did with Blizzard and Double Blizzard of Hops.

Sorry, I didn't check it out. This was several years ago and I didn't know there was batch variation. I think the difference in taste had more to do with the ambiance in which I had the beers.

I did not recognize that your six-pack story was a past tense thing.

Any plans to buy a six-pack (or twelve-pack) this year?

    Cheers!

Saw this in my mix-a-six section of my local Wegmans in Collegeville along with some other gems. I must preface that I’m no longer a hop head so this is hoppy and bitter to me. Has a strong hop aroma too. Reminds me of Hop Juju in terms of aroma. Taste is hoppy and light bitterness and leaves a dry aftertaste. It’s good but I’m done after 2 bottles of these.
