I hadn't put two and two together that it's that barrel (and I scroll past descriptions on Instagram - oof). FOMO just hit me hard.

Curious to hear what people think about the beer.

PH1 is sold out for to-go. Apparently it was 1pp at first then once everyone went through the line, they let folks buy multiples.

I'm just scratching my head with this logic. Why not keep at 1pp so it can be spread to other people? It will sell out regardless. Now people are going to have to deal with shitlords to get a bottle.

I was wondering how the same guy closed three or four trades already.

Was debating throwing something up for it, but it's more the mystique of Ph1 barrel.

I didn't notice if anyone was getting back in line or not when I left. I was probably 25th in a 30-person line at open. Lots of people hung around after buying one, so I guess that isn't a huge surprise that someone ended up with several.

All that said, I also get that SP staff doesn't want to police people who buy and line up again. If it's in-person and doesn't sell out at open, there's no great system.

Yeah, short of going back to scanning IDs like they did occasionally in the pre-COVID times it's tough to police

There's actually a ton of reliable systems for that which several different breweries employ, everything in between no to low to high tech. Just comes down to whether they actually care to.

Last time I was in a circle back around scenario like that was at Who Farted half a decade ago...I just walked away and let the greedy get theirs. I also haven't been back there in quite a while lol.

It's a little frustrating. I'm a local, but can't always get away in the middle of a work day. I'm going by later to have a bottle on-site, which was my plan anyway, so no big deal I guess.

Apparently I'm not getting IG notifications. I'd have gone by to get a bottle to go today rather than onsite tomorrow (but not too big a deal either way). Weren't other people having that issue (and if so how did you fix it)? I use an Android.

i recommended going to settings and filling in your DOB. i think there’s also a box or whatever to check for “allow content” or something like that.

Here's a link to the BA article on pH1 from nearly 6 years ago (when the magazine was still a thing!) At the time I was new to wild/sour beer. I was captivated by the story and it was an inspiration to seek out more wild ales.

Some of my favorite Side Project beers are their simple saisons. Marietta is a top 5 for me, and when I read about Side Project's pH1 I was thinking less hoppy Marietta aged in that iconic barrel I'd read about years ago, and I knew I'd have to get a bottle. I had some time and ran by today to have one on site.

It's not just hype around the barrel and scarcity. It's an absolutely lovely beer. Light to medium tartness. Very bright, lemony fruitiness. A bit of funk, some wheat. Soft, complex, super drinkable. My only disappointment is that I wasn't able to get a bottle or two to take home!

    Dear Cory,

Please don't give the pH1 barrel back just yet.

    Sincerely,
    Saison lovers in St. Louis

This is an absolute show stopper. One of the best Side Project saisons I've had. Light acidity, medium body, notes of cantaloupe, honeysuckle, and tropical fruits. Anyone who saw me at the bar saw me with my nose 3-inches in the glass nosing the hell out of this.

I need to start announcing when I'm going so I can meet some BA people rather than drinking alone. I was probably still there when you were. Although I was so absorbed in the beer that I may not have been too social anyway.

Very happy to have driven through some slushy roads from Chicago to St. Louis to find out I can grab one to go in addition to an onsite bottle. It is incredible.

Ok am I wrong or does the post state they put another beer into it before they give the barrel to someone else?

Well, now I wish I'd gone today instead of last night. Still not getting those IG notifications. As fast as they went yesterday, I'm gonna guess I'm already too late to run over. But maybe more released will lower the ISO and I can trade for one without giving up too much.

should make it a lot easier to get now. especially since they upped the limits yesterday. however, it’s probably the same 30-40 fucking people from yesterday getting more bottles today.

Started the day with a bottle of DB Stagg Jr Derivation with a PH1 chaser. Can’t ask for better than that.
