Yes, we have the same situation here, with Reyes distributing Sierra Nevada here in most of the Chicago Area (McHenry County the exception). Powder Dry IPA (excellent) was the last beer I had from SN (Jan 2022). It was a gift from my brother, fresh because he got it either in McHenry County or Wisconsin. I don't think my source for SN Narwhal and Bigfoot (The Beer Temple) even carries the brewery period (I need to ask next time - they have no SN for sale on their website).

The problem with the Big Box / Grocery Store arrangements, is the distributor must always keep a significant portion in the warehouse. A brewer will lose their SKU / shelf space if store runs out of beer and the distributor can't replace it by the next day. This results in a significant quantities that are at minimum 1-2 months old sitting on hand for "just in time" delivery. If the beer isn't selling well, 1-2 months turns into 1-2 quarters before it even goes out. Informed shoppers see that, and it makes the situation worse, as even less people are interested due to the fact it is stale. There is no new beer coming in because the distributor doesn't need any. At least for the seasonal sku (Oktoberfest, Celebrator), it's delivered fresh.

Fear we (Chicagoans) are going to lose both the variety and freshness of Bell's if they move back under Reyes (New Belgium is primarily a Blue House brand). Larry pulled his beer out of Illinois in the 1990s after Reyes bought their distribution rights from another distributor (he did the same recently in Virginia @vabeerguy ). The "New New Belgium" is already consolidating sales reps, and it only makes sense at this point to have one distributor to deal with per market.

    Cheers!

Julius... I just bought some canned 4/28. It is not what it used to be. I think it's Hurricane in the wrong can.

    Three come to mind:
    • Original Robin Hood Cream Ale (although the Dancing Gnome version is pretty good)
    • Boston Brewing Co. -- Doppelbock
    • Eske's Brew Pub -- Chili beer
I would think Dancing Gnome and Boston Brewing could bring back their two beers, Eske's (unfortunately) appears to be closed for good (it was a nice little brew pub in Taos, NM)...

When Hop Wallop first came out it was indeed great, then later not as good to me but still good.
I grew up on Schmidt's and Ballantine ale.
I remember riding a motorcycle on a hot ass afternoon day out by Lehigh valley near the Appalachian trail decades ago and go to a bar that just tapped Schmidt's. It was glorious.
Another similar incident was with Stoudts Gold Pils. So good.

Purchased packaged Pivo 6pk today at FW Propagator (canned 3/10/22). No idea whether that means it'll see distro or find a spot in the production brew cycle, but I'm betting it'll be around for FWIBF next month. So there's hope...

A hyper-local one for me, Orchard Street Brewings (Bellingham WA) Stock Ale. Was such a good beer when I moved here 22 years ago, I think the brewery has been almost 20 years now.

About a year or so ago I had a conversation with an employee at my local Retail Beer Distributor. I related that until I read something (a BA post?) I didn't even know there was a Miller High Life Light. He responded with something like: "Oh yeah. It is really good! It goes down like water". I didn't know how to reply to that so I switched topics to some other beer topic.

    Cheers!

Lol. It sure does. imo better than most because although it's a light beer it's still tasty and also. Allegedly it's unfiltered. I was also told that the only difference between high life and mgd is high life is unfiltered and mgd is. Both are pasteurized. Idk the % of truth but I've been on a massive kick of the minor differences between AALs lately. I was convinced that old milawaukee and pbr were one step away from being the same beer buy side by side taste I was so wrong. But that's another story. These AALs. So similar yet so subtly different. I've gone mad

Anhueser is hiring in NJ and I may apply. Work my way up. Learn what I've been obsessing over. But is it work the hour plus drive

Well, for most of its life (circa mid-1980s) to be legally labeled Miller Genuine Draft it could not be pasteurized.
The Feds, however, dropped that rule within the last couple of years.
MGD started out as simply MHL that was micro-filtered/sterile-filled instead of tunnel pasteurized.
In recent years, current owner Molson Coors has slightly different stats for the two beers on the Nutritional pdf:
    MHL - 4.6% 141 calories
    MGD - 4.7% 144 calories
... suggesting they might have tweaked the recipe of one or both, although the differences are within the legal tolerances, IIRC.

That same Nutritional pdf "Updated 10/13/2021" still lists the availability of Miller High Life Light.
