Midwest Saison and Wild Ale Appreciation

Went to Perennial today and explored their saisons and mixed culture/farmhouse-style beers, as the high heat and humidity today was calling for it. Wish I started following those beers from them sooner, as they are equally high quality as many of the bottles from SP and slightly less expensive. Loved Frances (Blend #3) and By & By (Blend #1).

 

I was told Perennial will be rereleasing Saison Des Reves, their collab with De La Senne. Batch 1 was on tap at the Afterthought and Beer Cellar. Be sure to drink batch 2 if you come across it

 

Nice! Any idea when it’ll be released? I assume the first one was brewery-only?

 

Big drop of Belgian beer this week. Looks like some really fresh De La Senne, as well as Da Ranke, Famtome, and 3F. Beer Temple posted about this Wednesday afternoon. Means the western burbs get it later this week. that probably means The Beer Cellar and Afterthought will be getting some similar products in at some point soon

Table Chardonnay
Our base table beer fermented and aged in a Rombauer Chardonnay barrel with Chardonnay juice and skins, from Central Valley, California, for 8 months.

I'll be there, looking forward to trying my first brew from them!

 

I believe just at Flesk currently.

 

They send beer to a few spots. One of their bottles is on the guest bottle list that Afterthought currates.

 

Actually, come to think of it, I think Beer Temple got some recently!!

 

Also at Consume in Lake Zurich and both Beermiscuous locations.

Nice release for Sundial yesterday. Seems it's the exact same crew that runs Flesk that runs Sundial. Barely anyone there when we arrived at 4pm, but when we left an hour later that place was packed!

I picked up all three bottles available there, and I'm having a Floret right now...a bright, citrus-y farmhouse style pale ale. It's really good!

I was able to snag a 4th bottle at Consume in Lake Zurich that was sold out from the source...that's a cool space. I always thought it was mostly a bottle shop with a small bar, but it's the exact opposite, a huge bar with a small (but well-curated) bottle shop.

Also got to Roaring Table to get a bottle of one of their wild ales, Ex Libris (excellent!) and have my first ever Lukr pour of their Heller Rauch...pleasant but not overwhelming smokiness. Wish I had time for a cask beer, but we had to run!!

 

Sounds like a great day! I got to try Sundial, how was the stock at consume shop?

If you're asking about the overall stock...it's really small, basically an eighth the size of, say, Bottles & Cans on Lincoln. Smartly chosen, though!

 

I had a saison at Great Dane (Fitchburg) in January. It was very good.

 

Afterthought has Eighth Continent #3 on at Hopleaf...oh my.

Notes of lemon, mint, cucumber, mild barnyard funk & oak.

This beer contains no "adjuncts" whatsoever but evokes them better than just dumping them in ever could.

I think I just became a covert.
