Hm but isn't that a "normal" price for KBBS at secondary market? I've been under the assumption that many of these European shops do not get the bottles directly from the breweries/distributors, and are more akin to resellers.

You can get something decent for $12.99. Bogle Vineyards as an example. I'm not a wine expert, but I check reviews before buying.

Really? I always want to know ABV% when I buy something, to know what I'm in for. It's not the "focus", it's just awareness. It's just strange to do a value calculation without factoring that in.

From what I can tell, the secondary value of KBBS has dropped significantly in recent years, being more around $500 these days. Not that that's not still utterly ridiculous, just like charging 25€+ for a can of NEIPA.

Then again, it's very much in line with the markups that people charge for German beers in the USA, which are even worse sometimes because German bottles are so cheap to beginn with. I've heard of people charging $6-8 for bottles that go for around 1.50€ in Germany.

I've tried it Jack. It's fine for what it is, but isn't a wine I'd want to make a steady habit of drinking. It's definitely a step up from 2 buck chuck though.

Frankly, I prefer Yellowtail Shiraz, if I'm going to drink an inexpensive red.

No doubt that it's ridiculous, though from what I gather it's much rarer to see it in Europe, so I'm not sure if the secondary market prices are directly comparable. But I must admit that I haven't looked too much into it, so I might be wrong.

Duvel and Guiness Foreign Extra Stout are both widely available and delicious beers that are reasonably priced ($10-$12 for a 4-pack from what I've seen) for what you are getting. On the hoppy side, Dogfish 90, Bell's Two Hearted and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale are hard to go wrong with.

Foreign Extra is becoming a whale in these parts. Found it a few months back, excellent as always.

I'm really interested to see where beer prices go in the next 3-12 months. Lots of people concerned about inflation and discretionary spending, but at the same time there are shortages in hops and CO2. Do breweries continue to raise prices based on cost of ingredients/production, only to have a lot of it sit unsold because people realize they shouldn't be spending even more on craft beer?

Recently visited a local brewery. Was an hour drive for me but oh well. They recently started canning and I was planning to take home a few packs of their beer. Once they revealed that a 4-pack of 16oz is $16.99, that was it for me! This was just Märzen, Pumpkin, Kölsch, nothing crazy. They told me it is the industry standard now and started to lecture me about craft beer.
I am done with this rip off! I have supported all kinds of breweries all the way through the pandemic, now I am done with it. They can sell their beer to others, not to me anymore! But apparently there are still enough people around with a lot of extra cash to spend. Well, more power to them! I am done with this. These breweries will price themselves out of the market in the long run. And I will applaud when they go under! ---rant over---

I would never buy or not buy a beverage of any kind based on any consideration of the ABV, unless I am specifically looking for NA beer

In an industry where the product ranges from 10c to 10$ per Oz, the idea of an "industry standard" is pretty laughable

I have been noticing this also and I wonder how long this is going to last and before these breweries start pricing themselves out of the market.

Uh, cool but that's not what we're discussing. We're talking about value here. I would imagine most of us here are aware of the ABV of the beer they're purchasing. Paying $8 for a DIPA at 8% ABV might be fine for some, but what about $8 for a 5% lager? Would you just not care and buy it?

I have been wondering about the elevated pricing of Tired Hands beers for many years. I recall that when people were waiting in line for hour(s) to buy their four packs one brand was priced > $24. I thought 3-4 years ago: how long can these prices last?

Maybe in today's economy when groceries, gas, etc. prices are so high folks might stop paying so much for four-packs of beer?

    Cheers!

P.S. I just visited the Tired Hands website and the ‘winner’ is:

    “Black Forest Only Void

Our dense and devastating imperial stout. Brewed with malted oats and a profusion of specialty malts. We kicked it up a notch by adding heaps of dense chocolate, dark cherry puree, and fresh bouron vanilla beans. Notes of black forest chocolate cake and dark chocolate covered cherries. 10.0% ABV.

    $26”
