100% agree, some of them also tend to smell and taste like (c)old tobacco

I'm sure it was. But, Burrow is 0-3 against the Browns. Bengals have a rough time with the Browns...for some reason.

[IMG] Just opened a killer box from @BBThunderbolt and given the outdoor temperatures in Mid-Michigan this afternoon have this beer perfectly chilled for consumption, I figured there’s no time like the present.

Bourbon Barrel aged Earlybird from Wander brewing. Packaging indicates this is the 2022 release.

Pours a fully opaque black that reveals some cola hues when the sunlight glimmers onto my glass. Nose bring notes of vanilla, charred oak, black coffee, dark chocolate, and prunes. Taste follows suit with sweet chocolate and prune up front, some cola notes shining through, and finishing with an excellent vanilla/oak bourbon flavor. The taste of bourbon seems highlighted for me especially given the ABV. I drank a 15% stout yesterday that didn’t let the bourbon come through as much as this is. The feel is chewy but not mouth coating and is very smooth on the swallow. Overall, excellent. 4/5 across the board. Cheers all and thanks so much Terry. Excellent choice.

Rivalries can indeed be an influence here.

I am an Eagles fan and even during years when their NFC East opponents aren't doing too well I never expect for the Eagles to win both games during a season; the other teams seem to get up for the game.

    Cheers!

    Howdy folks what's going on?!

Gorgeous day, and I decided I'd go help a local celebrate their 4th Anniversary.

What better way than having a limited edition Weller barrel aged stout. Tap room only ..

    Let's do this chaps!

Astro Lab - The Deep Weller Barrel Aged Stout.

Poured on tap at Astrollab in a snifter glass.

Deep walnut brown with a real creamy tan one finger top. Pretty impressive staying power for a barrel aged brew,, an excellent thick clingy collar really accents the look.

Great aroma. Nutty and creamy, thick hints of dark chocolate and nougat. Hits a little sweet but with rich oak and caramel like whiskey notes real nicely

Palate continues greatness. Killer velvet mouthfeel with creamy sweetness of vanilla and dark chocolate. Hits with black candy licorice in the finish with a sticky molasses. Has all the controlled measure of great oak barrel aging. Round mouthfeel, rich palate, booze but not overwhelming, and a great rich flavor.

Nice take for a special brew.

    Look 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.45 || Final score 4.43

    Cheers!

I was born and lived in Ohio for my first 32 years of life. I finally became a Browns fan the year of "The Drive". I've experienced every possible emotion with this team(except the thrill of a Super Bowl victory).
The Cavs winning a championship was good and all. The Browns winning the Super Bowl is what I'm waiting to see happen. Sadly, I'm not so sure when that will happen. So much wasted talent.
Your team on the other hand, is solid all the way 'round. Good luck!

This is truth. I'm 5 hours south of the brewery in the same state. We used to get a fresh one case per store drop down here twice a month and single bottles were $3 at the counter. Sold out in a day. Not it's stacked up everywhere for $13 a six pack, often 2,3+ months old and I won't touch it. Fresh ZD is magical.

First new beer of the weekend.
I stopped in at Taxman's Fortville location last week to purchase some trade beers that are brewery exclusive. I threw this four pack on just to get a discount on some other beers, and I'm happy I did.

    Imperial Defallt
12oz canned 08/15/22 poured into a snifter at fridge temp 8.5% ABV 21 IBU per can label. The beer pours opaque dark amber with mahogany highlights and khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Clinging lacing is left behind after each sip. The aroma is mild with cinnamon and amburana wood accenting sweet malt. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with more of the amburana and maple wood aging apparent. Cinnamon and honey present. The finish offers minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with less than average carbonation and a semi dry finish. The wood aging and spice is the perfect counterbalance to the sweetness of this beer. Overall, very, very good style defying beer.

    Cheers!

    Hey Jack,

As our German freund just mentioned, Rauchbier have indeed this weird Smokey taste to them (hence the name!) and yet I like them, as a former smoker maybe.

Anyways as weird as it sounds, the only style I really can’t drink is Barleywines and I’ve yet to find an explanation about it. Probably the boozy mess they are.

    Cheers!

Many times and I’m happy with it every time. I like to get it in their Christmas mixed packs. I find it to be a pleasing scotch ale perfect for the holiday/winter months. Cheers.

7.7% peanut butter coffee stout by Shovel Town

Poured from a pint can, the body is a dark brown with good, tan initial head. Lacing throughout the tasting.

Nose is coffee forward with a note of peanut and perhaps a trace of lactose. Taste follows and expands upon the aroma. The coffee flavor is bold with good bitterness. The peanut butter is present but in background. Lactose is perceived but unobtrusive.

Carbonation is good. Good malty, bitter finish.

I enjoyed this stout quite a bit, but one must enjoy a substantial bitterness.

Just out of curiosity have you ever had Sierra Nevada Bigfoot? If so, it that a beer you "really can’t drink"?

Heck, the Cubs finally won a World Series (2016) so anything is possible!

And since we are now discussing baseball: Go Phils! :beers:

    Cheers!

P.S. I hope that me reminding you about the Cubs win does not bring up bad memories for you.:flushed:

No, but I could maybe give it a try and change my mind. I always keep an open mind about beer anyway, just as much as for the rest.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was a winter warmer or more of a scotch ale type.

My local has CASES stacked on their floor, warm. Literally right across the street is the grocery store where we shop, and they likewise have CASES stacked, unrefrigerated.

Between the two places, there’s gotta be 25 warm, dated cases. And as recently as probably seven years ago, you could show up at the brewery when they opened on the day of a ZD release and get none.

And like it, because you could pretty easily pick up very fresh Alpha King and Gumballhead. Now, The Dust is just another shelfie - and that’s around an hour from the brewery.
