Boulevard & Firestone Walker Barrel-aged Wheat Wine

I think I saw a post recently where @DIM had found this, so since we live in the same area I kept my eyes open while searching for Celebration.

Probably my first wheatwine and I'm really enjoying it. The barrel flavoring is mild and complementary and there seems to be a bit of cherry flavor, which I didn't expect based on the description. The body is on the light side while still having that malty syrup feel.

Only having 1 tonight but I could drink a lot of this and may save the rest (of a 4-pack) for Thanksgiving weekend.

Nice, I'm thinking my wife might like that one and I'm certainly looking forward to it. Probably gonna need more. Also having a wheatwine tonight... Go Phils!

Goose Island Small Batch 02, wheatwine aged 2 years in Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace barrels. Thanks to @FBarber for these, they've been amazing.

Like the others I've had from this series, this is BIG. It's loud. It's frankly obnoxious. I love it. Call it wheatwine to mosh to.

Massive caramel and toffee absolutely dominate. There is also plenty of honey and vanilla plus hints of raisin, butterscotch, and sweet bread. The body satisfyingly full with gentle carbonation This is just a lot of fun to drink. The world needs more wheatwine.

    Go Phils!

Tree of Light from Tree House. Barrel-aged with unknown ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown - borderline black. Pours almost still and then a tiny layer of head appears (and then quickly disappears). No bubbles can be seen.

The nose is full of rich toffee and bourbon. Wow. Intense. Prunes, dates, figs, and raisins come through with equal intensity as well. A hint of tobacco and oak.

The taste is intense. Sweet upfront. Quite sweet. Maple, toffee, plums, raisins, figs, some chocolate, brown sugar, and a nice layer of vanilla. It's incredible. I feel like this is much more than the sum of the parts. While each flavor kicks ass on its own, its the masterful integration that makes this rise up quite high. The relative lack of carbonation also intensifies the flavors, which works really well here.

The mouthfeel is very thick and creamy - almost stout like. Sweet on the aftertaste. Although the ABV isn't listed, it definitely feels like something up around 13%. A bit of a boozy burn on the way down. Overall, an absolutely treat. 4.6/5

Tree House makes some stellar b-wine, that one in particular. Have you had any others? I wish they would make a hopped to Hades American barleywine sometime. It would have to be good, right?

Although I have now had 14 beers from Tree House, this is the first barleywine! Any barleywine they make would likely be stellar!

Fox Farm Requim No.1 - Cognac barrel-aged Barleywine. Rich malt, some boozy grape. Not overly sweet. A touch hot, but not unexpected given the 15.5% abv. I love how Churchkey lists the serving temperature on the menu. 54 degrees on this one. My biggest beef sometimes is when good beer bars serve some styles way too cold, I'll order a beer on deck to let it warm.

Elysian Cyclops (2019). Not sure if they do a regular, but this is bourbon barrel aged.

Way less hot than it used to be. That 15.1% is flailing about in deep caramel death rolls.

Qimmersoriartorfissuaq from Freigeist Bierkultur in Germany. Barleywine eisbock hybrid, coming in at 14% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown - almost black. Zero head. Nose is full of massive roasted malts. Not picking up any hint of barleywine here, but maybe the taste will reveal something! Charred wood, tobacco, coffee grounds, and burnt toffee.

The taste is intense and bitter. Again, massive charred wood/burnt toffee. No real sign of sweetness, other than the hint of toffee. Mostly roasted malts, tobacco, and coffee grounds. Leather, and a big earthy note here. The hops come through as a hint of grapefruit citrus peel.

Mouthfeel is quite thick and viscous. The finish is long and very bitter. If you like smoke, this is for you. Quite interesting overall. Still can't see much of a barleywine in there, but this is a hybrid with eisbock.

@DIM - it doesn't look like you have tried this one?

I think I'm liking this a bit more than you. Up front, briefly, I get toffee, chocolate and cooked raisin that are barleywine-esque. The bitter smoke comes in fast though. I get your coffee grounds plus a little burnt ends and bakers chocolate. The booze isn't shy either. Unique for sure and I'm very glad to have tried it.

Going shopping tomorrow and it looks like they have this, interested?

That one is awfully sweet! Like sugar syrup sweet. Should be listed under English Barleywine.

Not a fan of American-style, unless they lean more toward English.
