Well, the posting of this thread is certainly ill-timed what with their Dark Lager Day having come and gone this past weekend but figured to post one anyway as they've announced some cool upcoming beers. Will post these in the 2nd post.

    Now for some announcement details.

Firstly, their Dark Lager Day beers will be hitting distribution this week:
    • Złotonator (Doppelbock)
    • Black Lager (Schwarzbier)
    • Black Pils
Also, they've recently announced three triple decoction beers on the horizon:
    • Bohemian Pilsner
    • Czech 10° (Czech Pale Lager)
    • Danube Swabian (Historical Vienna Lager)

The latter two above both use Sugar Creek Malt Co's heritage haná malt varietal originally from Moravia but a further interesting tidbit for Danube Swabian follows:

While doing research into the origins of the Vienna lager, we discovered that the first batches ever brewed used a haná barley variety from Moravia whose peak usage ended after WWI. Coincidentally, Sugar Creek Malt Co had dedicated the last five years toward reviving this once prolific barley, which we used last year for our Czech Dark Lager and used most recently for our upcoming Czech pale lager.

However, this malt was processed according to Pilsner specifications which would not be suitable for a Vienna lager. Upon further investigation, we were able to source the general malting and kilning parameters to create the first ever Vienna malt, which Sugar Creek followed to produce the closest thing to the original Vienna malt used to make the first Vienna lagers.

A triple decoction mash using 100% original haná Vienna malt and 100% Czech Saaz hops, this will be the closest we will get to experience the first Vienna lagers ever enjoyed.

Tried the Doppel this afternoon -- thought it was sort of lackluster in what I expect from a good Doppelbock, but got distracted with other goings on.

Noticed toward the end of the glass that there was some nice malty breadiness, but I think they're adding too much hop compared to traditional German style.

    Pandering to modern Ami palate?

Appears they were brewing a collaboration with Jack's Abby today.

I really liked their latest Polish Pils release this weekend, more so than their standard Pils and first in the Polish series which I thought were good/solid.

It’s no longer on draft in their taproom, but these were canned January 9th and still fresh, especially if you find in the wild refrigerated.

I’m planning to stop by the taproom Thu night after dropping the kiddos at the in-laws. Probably around 8:45 or so if anyone wants to grab a drink.

Just got some Chicago beers in my hands and I'm early in the process but found Goldfinger Vienna considerably better than Dovetail Vienna.....also liking the Goldfinger Doppel...like I said I have several more to go through of varying brands but I'm high on Goldfinger right now..

Agreed. Now do Roaring Table Vienna to round out the trifecta.

For me, RT>GF>DT for the Vienna. Goldfinger definitely claims victory over Dovetail. None of them are a bad choice. All breweries are doing great stuff with Old World recipes/styles.

Anything you find will be too old, unfortunately -- but I agree it's one of the best Viennas I've ever tried.

My appreciation of Goldfinger is about .500, but I'll have to give their Vienna a try if I see it.

Unfortunately was not able to find Roaring Table...will have to make it a focus sometime. I've got relatives in Milwaukee and that wouldn't be a bad little side trip sometime...just had the Goldfinger Helles....fantastic...

They announced the Czech 10° release but sadly it's a taproom only release. No distro. <wompwomp.wav> Will proceed to drown my sorrows of this news with Bohemian Pilsner.
