This is like a super amped up version of French Toast Bastard. This is definitely better (didn’t really care for FTB) but certainly not worth $50. I get almost no bourbon, but tons of cinnamon (which I like), and a solid amount of vanilla/maple syrup. Anyone had this and also had Side Project stouts? Does it seem like the base beer is similar?

After trying all 4 of this years' variants last month on Peche Day, now a bottle of the O.G. Peche Mortel. An amazing espresso aroma on this, and great roasty and dark cocoa flavor with a dry finish which I think keeps an imperial stout much more drinkable. An all timer.

An underappreciated SFSD brew (and brewer) for sure. My comments from a couple of years ago.

Poured from a pint can into a tulip.

Pours viscous and black. A very dark tan head builds quickly to incredible heights even with a mild pour, and then just as quickly subsides to nice lacing.

The brew lacks much aroma, although what is there checks the boxes for sure. Roasted malt, dark sugar and dark fruit.

The brew is skewed a bit sweet for my personal taste, and maybe the style, but is still an RIS. Roasted malts present both sweet and smoky flavors out of the gate. In midstream, the roasted flavors expand, and some chocolate and coffee notes present. The brew closes with a bit of extra hops compared with most of the style and it's welcome given the sweetness.

The brew is certainly full bodied, but despite a decent amount of residual sugar, doesn't feel heavy or sticky. It has an ashy finish that works, although as the brew warms it starts feeling a little chalky rather than pleasantly dry.

Wish I could but it's out-of-market here and I don't have any currently.

Might as well go Quadruple cross post with this new to me beer, because it is quite excellent.

Full review linked here. I may have liked this more than the BA version which I have enjoyed before. Perhaps a side by side is in order.

    Cheers!

This is what most would probably consider a pastry stout. It is made with roasted peanuts, roasted sesame seeds (probably a first for me), and vanilla beans. It smells just like Cracker Jacks and it tastes a lot like a Baby Ruth candy bar, sans the caramel. It has a wonderfully full body which I personally feel is the star of the show, given how much presence it gives to the beer. The ingredients listed on the can does not mention any use of lactose sugar so all of the weight is from malt, and it has it in droves.

Central Waters Brewing Reese and Desist Stout. On tap at the brewery, then out of the bottle at home. Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in a glass, mixed with bourbon. Executed perfectly.

Had friends for dinner and they brought this. Finishing the last after they've left, a really nice old school BA stout from a local brewery.

Same here. It's even hard to find their barrel aged stuff in NC.

I sometimes find it 90 miles away in Sioux City, IA or five hours away in Minneapolis.

Just a solid Imperial Stout. And a shout-out to the OG can about town. Deep charred malt, and a surprisingly strong hop profile. The river looks a little different when passing our house.

uh oh. Did that “Request Trade” button get hit, though? Otherwise, it’s nice conversation, like when you see someone to whom you’re attracted, then you start promising the world if only they come back to your place for a drink…

Ever since the union-busting brouhaha, I’ve stayed away. 2020 is the last year of extras I have on the shelf. I think I needed a break from them any way.

Glad I backed out of my Tavour order. Everything you describe would have been maddening for a $50 splurge.
