Wheated Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with roasted cashew, split and scraped vanilla and sea salt.

Way too sweet and i don't think shit like this should exist in liquid form. One sip was ok but even this small 3oz taster ended up turning my stomach

Hey you're in my seat.

Wish they restarted their cask program. I still haven't had a side project beer, unless I make it down to Saint Louis, not sure I'll ever get to one. Would pass on this one based on your take.

It's got high ratings on Untappd and most people will probably call me crazy.
This just tasted like heavily sugared chocolate milk with brown water in it .
The first sip was good but then it got pretty bad and it did make my stomach feel weird.

As far as SP goes ...I've only had 2021 BBT and This . I did have a King Of Darkness( Anchorage and SP collab) that i gotfor being a proxy to an awesome guy on here, but i didn't want it cuz i knew i wouldn't enjoy it . Giving it to someone who will appreciate it .

These styles of beer just aren't my thing. It seems like it's all the rave though. People slam Horus and MT for making super sweet stuff then you try someshit from SP or Anchorage and it's the same shit just not adjuncted:rolling_eyes:
I'm old . I want bitter stouts with intense heat from the barrel :poop:

This is one I've wanted to try for so long. We get Expedition here, and we even got a ton of the Reserve one a couple years ago. Never seen the BBA version

A triple chocolate Imperial Stout. And that's just what you get, chocolate and plenty of it!

Enjoying a Komes RIS i picked up when it dropped last fall. True to the style the heavily roasted malts dominate this brew. Also getting some licorice, dark fruit, and molasses. Finishes well balanced. A solid brew - rated 4.03.
    Cheers!

The Veil (Richmond, VA) - Sleeping Forever 2023

Very viscous and sticky - but enough roastiness, dark fruit, and black licorice to prevent it from being too sweet. No booziness for being 12% abv

    Figured what the hell

Drowned Lands - Black Gold BBA Imperial Stout

Been wanting to try this for a while as its on shelves out here.
Way too sweet a few sips in and don't know if i will be able to finish this pint. Also very little barrel influence in this as opposedto other BBA stuff I've had. Not worth price of entry .
The other Black Gold(Central Waters) is 10x better than this

Edit : just saw this stupid ass beer has vanilla in it . The fuck is wrong with people putting out these misleading labels.lotta crap written all over and the side label says Black Gold Black Dirt Bourbon BBL Vanilla Imperial Stout..
    Plain Awful. 0/5 for labeling
    2/5 For flavor

Sometimes I think I'm just getting older and then I see shit like this and realize that's why I'm less gung ho to grab random shit to experiment these days. Buncha bs on the shelves and a lot of the time you gotta read a short story to figure what.they might be trying to sell you

I got heated when i saw the side of it. What makes it worse is that there were zero signs of vanilla along with the absense if any decent barrel aging signs. Ive had great Vanilla Imperial Stouts (Zatfig Bourbon Barrel Stout and Oddside XII) and this was nowhere near it.

I know this the Imperial Stout Appreciation thread, but we have to voice our displeasure as well.

I even looked the beer up before buying. Why do people do this? It's the third time i buy a beer labeled as an Imperial Stout the i find out its got things i don't want added to it . I want to have to stand there and read the entirety of a can when i just wanna grab something and get outta the store .

One of the guys that run one of the locals i go to who knows I'm not a fan of adjuncts once sent me an instagram message saying he got some RIS in ,the beer was Cherenkov from 5 Threads Brewing ( now closed RIP) , the he thinks I'd like

I went and bought 3 cans and when i get home i see on the back thats it's got vanilla and cacao (IIRC) added. He felt so bad and refunded me when i sent him photos so i know it's not just me getting bamboozled !

Trying to balance good news and bad news on the BA imperial stout front. I should have posted this yesterday, but was so raptured while enjoying I completed my notes and enjoyed the rest in bliss.

Maplewood Barrel Aged Cuppa - Neat Elijah Craig 18 Year Old Barrels

    Full review linked here.

Maplewood’s Cuppa releases are typically adjunct laden, and after trying a couple a few years ago when exploring I haven’t bought any since (plus they use Oznr for sales which I’m not downloading).

That said, I’ll be seeking these in draft firm in the future. They released a PVW one last year that sadly I wasn’t aware of at the time. This was so good and one of my favorite Chicago releases of any BA Stout. Just such an unexpected joy just before the weather is starting to feel like Summer.

That's too bad. They have a great barleywine that has nothing added. I guess their stout game needs some work.
