Thanks for clarifying. It's a fine line in either case, but many lasting a long time here is in large part due to the welcome nature of BAs and the way the site is managed by you and our Moderators.

I've participated in several BA meet-ups and was glad politics or religion were not brought up but perhaps a comment or two. Try to steer conversations away if family or friends bring up. I did in the past, but does not bring joy or happiness, not productive, IMHO.

 

Glad to see the Code updated. As for the thread's political/religion definition, I think common sense works best: no proselytizing. We are here to share what we think about beer.

 

Good point. Sometimes it’s not even the alcohol that pushes us over-the-top about some issue. Just like at the actual bar, when someone gets out of line, we ask them to leave. And they are almost always welcome back. No big deal.

 

With @Todd immediately making the thread about the beer with the mug shot on it, it soon felt like an unintentional test for users. The thread was a ridiculously easy invite for the kind of comments that would inspire a “no politics” policy in the first place. Well, it might be my imagination, but I think at least one post was deleted by the mods (maybe I’m wrong), and it didn’t take long for a certain vibe to surface.

If people are going to post in such threads, then they must want BA to be open for some political content… and if they make a post that will be deleted, then they are contributing to BA’s desire to add restrictions. It would therefore be in their best interest to be thoughtful about their posts. It’s safe to say such reflective thinking will not be universal though.

 

I come in here to get away from the wackiness going on outside. I hope all of us heed these simple rules. Policing them? Well, how about we just follow them and just enjoy the ride while we're in here...Salud...
