They've cancelled the Sorachi Ace? How sad. I thought it was a little too hoppy for the style, but liked it on occasion.

I miss Grant's (so-called, because in bottled form it was a mere 6% ABV) Imperial Stout a lot.

I was very close to naming this amazing brew as the one I'd bring back, but I went with Victory's Helios instead.

I liked everything in that series. The Imperial Stout and Scotch Ale were particularly great.

Add me to the Pete's Wicked Ale list. I might have said FW DDBA, but they just brewed a batch this year and I still haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face. The other beer that comes to mind is Stone Double Bastard. Double Bastard and Victory at Sea were the two beers that got me into this phase (micro, kids - limited beers, craft) of beer drinking.

Get to the coast. It’s actually overcast but the water is still nice. Moonlight beach in Encinitas. One of the best family beaches ever.

    Rolling Rock.

A longtime favorite that got me through high school and the Marines. Rolling Rock was one of those small town breweries that produced a great beer in Latrobe, Pennsylvania just outside Pittsburgh. Generations of families worked at Rolling Rock. Then something sinister happened. Anheuser Busch bought the brewery. Immediately they shut down the brewery and fired all the employees. AB moved production to New Jersey (!) but it was just not the same. The label may say "Rolling Rock" but the contents are pisswater.

My mom lived in Greensburg, PA for a few years back in the ‘90s or early ‘00s. I don’t especially remember Rolling Rock but I do recall that it’s the only thing anyone there drank. And I have this souvenir from those days. Cheers!

The Latrobe brewery reopened several years ago and is part of the City Brewery chain (LaCrosse ,WI, Memphis, TN, and Irwindale, CA). They do contract brewing and packaging. City is now associated with Pabst, so some Pabst-owned brands are probably brewed there now.

Latrobe Brewing Co. was purchased by the Sundor Corp. (maker of Sunny Delight fruit drinks) in 1985 and a few years later Sundor sold the brewery to Labatt, at the time the largest brewing company in Canada.

About a decade later, Labatt was purchased by what was then called Interbrew, headquartered in Belgium, in 1995. Interbrew, after another international merger, became InBev. By the early 2000s, InBev-owned Latrobe Brewing Co. was among the largest US brewers (#8 in 2004, with a barrelage of over 1 million). Don't know the brand's complete distribution region but it was available in California.

In 2006 InBev, one of the largest brewers in the world, decided to get out of the macro US market* and sold the Rolling Rock brand, but not the brewery in Latrobe, PA. to Anheuser-Busch. As noted in the post above, City Brewing Co. soon after purchased the brewery.

    * They later changed their mind on that move (I imagine some folks here remember the subsequent US deal) and, some in the industry have suggested that the financial info they acquired in the sale of the Rolling Rock brand to AB helped them in their move to buy Anhueser-Busch a couple of years later.
