I can't believe someone said Michael Shea's! I loved that beer in the 90's.

Why can't they brew this beer anymore?

    Cheers!

My buddy worked for Pete. In fact, I still have the Born Wicked "scrubs" shirt they used to market the relaunch of their lager. They switched the name from Gold Coast Lager to Wicked Lager to cash in on the name recognition of Wicked Ale.

I'd love to have this gem again.

I also hope I would do a better job at writing it up if I had another chance.

This post references the reason—I tried to find more complete info elsewhere but came up empty. I just found some discussion about the 10,000-gallon vat made from palo santo wood from Paraguay but nothing about the beer’s discontinuation.

I do recall that post: "IIRC the vat/barrel whatever was no longer usable for beer."

I was hoping that @beerjerk666 had more definitive information here.

    Cheers!

Oddly there seems to be nothing online about the discontinuation of this beer (or my search skills are degrading)—the closest I came was this article/review from 2019 but I saw no reference to its no longer being produced. Maybe there’s something on BA but I need to make breakfast now.

Labatt 50 was available in the US for a time as Labatt Canadian Ale. I loved it. It had a beautiful green label. I don’t really remember anything about it specifically but it reminds me of being in my early 20s which seems like a lifetime ago.

Any of those Stone Collabs in 12oz bottles from 10+ years ago, just to name a few:

    Chocolate mint stout
    Black pilsner
    Macadamia coconut Porter

As someone else stated the vat/barrel is no longer usable, and more importantly it is illegal to export that particular wood out of that country…

    Tough question.
My immediate thought was Founder's Dark Penance, which was the ultimate black IPA. Then I remembered that another batch of Founder's Imperial Stout is not promised. Dark Penance wins by a nose only because there are zero black IPAs out there anymore. However, Russian Imperial Stouts have become almost as hard to find recently.

Yeah, and Labatt also marketed it in the US under it's domestic name of 50 Ale, too, as seen in this ad from the 1980s, US-market green bottles complete with "IMPORTED" on the neck label.

Fifco, USA, which now owns the Labatt trademark for the US market has also brewed a Labatt 50 Ale in its Genesee brewery in Rochester NY (How close to the origin? Unknown).

I had a North Coast Old Stock Ale for the first time in about a decade last night and quite enjoyed it, so I'll dream of another now lost big beer to bring back, Stone Old Guardian.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but would love to see regular ass New Belgium Ranger IPA again. Used to buy so much of that stuff back in the day, I remember thinking it was SO bitter back then.

Do you remember Labatt Copper? I remember taking a trip to Toronto and the bars were offering Labatt X and Labatt Y and those were the two recipes they were using to decide which version of Labatt copper they would make available to the masses. Good times.

Not a “beer” per say but my perception of dogfish head 60 minute the first sip I ever took of an IPA in general probably the first craft beer I’ve ever had at 21 years old and I’ll never forget my brain not being able to comprehend it and it was so floral

But in interest to the thread I can now think of one to redirect and it would most likely be the honey ale made by Narragansett during their HP Lovecraft series. I loved it so much that I emailed them asking if I can buy any remainders and go drive to their contract brewer in New York to pick it up even if it was a pallet but I never got a response back.

I had a similar experience first time I had a Stone IPA a long time ago. Never had a beer that tasted that aggressive before, loved it.
While we’re at it, how about OG Flower Power. That beer was insanely good back in the day.
