Welcome to the next tasting’s planning thread…for this upcoming tasting we will be revisiting American Adjunct Lager (henceforth AAL). This tasting will be held over the course of the upcoming 4th of July weekend and I hope you consider joining the fun.

This style was last hosted by our good friend @TongoRad way back in 2017 I believe...If you’re interested in joining the fun this time around please keep reading...

For this tasting we will include two “relatives” of AAL as well, the styles for this tasting include:
    • American Adjunct Lager
    • Light Lager
    • Cream Ale : only cream ales that could substitute for either of the above beer styles should be considered. The most widely known example probably being Genesee Creme****Cream ales with lactose, coffee, vanilla, nitro, etc. are not intended to be included.
    Why and How?

The purpose of this tasting is to come together, share beers with one another, and have some fun while doing so. If that sounds appealing, again, please keep reading…

When the tasting gets underway on July 4th, tentatively @ 8 PM, you can share as little or as much as you would like about the beer you’re drinking; but pictures are always encouraged. If you need help with posting pictures see here.

    Planning

As the days go by please consider posting your “hauls," or whatever you plan to drink, in this thread to help others out with ideas and to get the discussion going. I’m still finalizing my line up but will post as soon as it is put together, probably very soon.

Cheers everyone, I hope you consider joining us for what I hope turns out to be a fun and laid back tasting over the holiday weekend.

I think I’m most looking forward to seeing all the different craft and regional AALs that may show up in the tasting, but I’m also curious to find out which macro ends up with the most posts.

Let the countdown, and planning begin, most importantly...Cheers everyone :beers:

I’ll post mine in the next few days, so far I have 5, 4 of them are craft, 3 of those 4 local to NJ, hoping to add 1-2 more to the mix by weekend.

Maybe there are some local ones that you are unaware of and may discover? If you find some maybe add them to your cooler of Yella Bellies and let us know what you found :beers:

It’s still TBD, that was the initial thought so as to coincide with the new NBW start time.

However; I had the same thought, that maybe given the holiday, midday may be more appropriate for a start time for this one. That will be sorted out before I create the initial tasting post on July 4th :+1:

I plan on doing a comparison type of tasting each day for this thread, but the exact beers are yet determined. I'd like to compare a "Light" beer from one of my local breweries against some macro AALs or macro lights. This beer took a gold medal in the "Light" category at the World Beer Cup in 2018. I like it when I drink it, but I've always wondered how it compares to the big boys. But first I need to ask the brewer if the light beer is brewed with any corn adjunct. That will determine which macro beers that I choose for the comparison. If no corn is used in it, then that beer is an American Lager and should not qualify for this tasting. Then I'll get a bunch of macro AALs and compare them just to determine which I can call my favorite.

I plan to drink beer on the 4th (it's traditional in my household), so no, I will not be participating in this event.

For those of you in Connecticut that are local, looks like Fox Farm's American Lager, which also contains corn, just returned...perfect timing for you all :beers: @sulldaddy @Roguer I think their Zoigl also contained corn if any of you still have that one stocked up in the fridge.

    1.6km to the freedom unit.

Personally, my car gets 40 rods to the hogshead, and that's the way I likes it.

    Cheers!
