A still, oxidized barleywine from New Image.

I love a still barleywine and this is a good one. I only poured 3-4 ounces and that's about right for something this sweet. Lots of maple and brown sugar dominate this one. At the edges are sherry, tobacco, chocolate, cola, and caramel. There is a nicely warming brown liquor at the exhale. Looking forward to another couple of pours in the coming weeks.

Baldin's Xyauyu series is still the benchmark for oxidized barleywine but this is definitely worth trying.

And now something to beat the sweet. Plenty of citrus rind and pine to go along with the caramel should do the trick.

I wonder: How might a 50:50 blend of Bigfoot with a sweet, oxidized Barleywine turn out? Say 1oz of each.

Has anyone tried something like this? Sadly barleywine has become extremely scarce in this neck of the woods.

Revolution Brewing out of Chicago flies a bit under the radar outside of the Midwest, IMHO, and they’re a hidden treasure. The glass is a worthy representation of this massive (16.8% ABV) barleywine, because it’s truly a whale that I was blessed to have the opportunity to dance with. It is more than worthy of all the accolades it receives. Tippity top world class stuff, IMHO.

Jane from Ship Creek Brewing Company in Anchorage. New brewery and new beer to me. English barleywine.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with a bit of light brown head. The nose is really interesting and not a typical English barleywine. Apricot, plum, oak, slight toffee, banana, oatmeal cookie, and fresh bread.

The taste is really enjoyable. Quite similar to the nose. Definitely a mix of sweet and bitter. Very slight citrus peel, some burnt toffee, plums, raisins, figs, leather, slight brown sugar, biscuits, and graham crackers. Not overly sweet at all. This seems like a perfect candidate for barrel aging.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a mix of sweet toffee and bitter citrus on the aftertaste. Quite a long finish. Dry. Overall, a great beer.

Revolution is the one brewery more than any other that I wish I had easy access to. I've been lucky to try a bunch through a generous trader and tavour. Cherry VSOJ made me open my first crate in a year. Rev is just absolutely killin it.

We did the Rev Season Pass this year that guarantees you all of the releases and an early pre-sale for the public releases (and includes a discount on the retail price iirc). Its nice not to have to F5 for sales or hope to catch things on Tavour before they sell out. Very lucky to be able to trade proxy services with a Chicago resident since Rev is proxy friendly for everything now.

I've done some successful experimenting with Bigfoot and this sounds good, so what the hell.

The aroma is straight up Bigfoot, prickly citrus rind and caramel for the most part. The taste is more interesting, a thread of sugary maple blends pretty well with the moderately aged Bigfoot. Overall this is a success. I think a fresh bottle would have been inharmonious.

It's peach season, back soon with my favorite Bigfoot cocktail.

I fuckin love peaches. A finger of last year's peach infused whiskey in a glass of Bigfoot appropriately garnished with fresh peach slices and peach gummi candy. Heaven.

That's awesome! Funny story. We have a peach tree that finally fruited this year. Probably 50 peaches. They were almost ripe, so I waited about a week or two. Went out yesterday and found that every single peach was gone and all of the seeds were on the ground. Squirrels were observed eating the lovely ripe peaches (they were pretty small). I'm not loving squirrels right now.

That sucks! Squirrels are nothing but fuzzy tailed tree rats. If the peaches were small, might they have been donut peaches like the ones in the foreground?

They are not. They are Babcock peaches, and for some reason they turned out relatively small. About the size of an apricot.

    This is fantastic.

    BTW
We have a few peach trees, and cherry trees too. Between the squirrels and birds we have tried barrels around the trunks and nets over the canopies. Limited success. And as for the wasps, well, let’s just say one tends to be careful.

I just finished drinking a 16oz can of Revolution On & On Part 3. 16.6% ABV
I acquired it from @ChicagoJ at the 3 Sheeps meet. It's somewhat a stout & barleywine hybrid
I pulled it out the fridge and it was very cold. I sipped on it for over 1 hour. This beer changed alot with temperature. When cold it tasted more like a stout. But become more baleywinish as it warmed. At room temp it was a English barelywine. So in the end it's a barleywine. How about a black barleywine?

It's sweet but not cloying. The booze & bourbon was always there, strong but not harsh. Semi smooth for a big beer. At room temp the finish was a raisin spice. This beer has some complexity. I liked this beer and will give it a 4.47/5 overall.
