Oude Mûre Tilquin à L'Ancienne from Gueuzerie Tilquin. A fruit lambic. 2018 bottling date and best before 2028.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a somewhat murky orange/red with about a half inch of head. The nose is insane. Sour blackberries, green grapes, light sweet sour patch kid candy note, slightly mineral, oranges, lemon, and a bit of funk. This is just so lovely to smell.

The taste is smooth. The sourness isn't quite mouth-puckering, but it's there. Sour blackberry for sure, along with notes of cherry candy, lemon, an earthy note, wheat, oak, and funk. Tart. A leather note comes through with time, as does a slightly spicy note. I pick up a bit of salt on the back end.

The mouthfeel is fairly light and dry. The aftertaste is a mix of sour, sweet, and funky. Overall, a wonderful lambic. Very glad I got to try this one.

Back with my nightcap, one sent to me by none other than @Resistance88 - German Chocolate Cake Speedway.
(TIL pecans are in the frosting of traditional German Chocolate Cake)
Poured stout black with a light brown head that left little lacing.
The taste is first and foremost Speedway, with its roasted coffee and malty goodness. It has chocolate and coconut and the pecans are more of a nutty flavor than specialty pecans.
The feel is very slightly viscous, way too easy to quaff quickly.
OA, it’s not quite as good as the OG but it is a worthy variant for Speedway.
    See you tomorrow!

    Another goody from @muchloveforhops3

Kettlehouse Brewing CO Barrel-Aged Freezeout Imperial Stout, 12.0% ABV; 4.0 overall

Pours a chill-hazed & effervescent mahogany with a thumb+ of mocha colored head. Above average head retention & great lacing

S: A little dark fruit & cocoa, vanilla shows up later, dark fruits too

T: Follows the nose, slight smokiness, a little booze bite, vanilla cream, & some dryness up front, a little Baker's Chocolate too. A little roastyness, some dark chocolate, woody hops, a kiss of barrel along with figs, raisin& dark cherry once this beer warms up. Finishes with a little oakyness, a little booze, a kiss of treacle, roastyness & dark chocolate, a little bit of leafy hops, plus some molasses notes

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, warming; carbonation smooths out a bit once warmed up

Solid BA Imp Stout, nice drinkability

Thanks to @Beersnake for the opening!

I picked up this one thinking that it was a quad/strong dark ale, but I'm not very smart, so that's kinda par for the course :stuck_out_tongue::
Zundert 8 Belgian strong pale ale
    11.2 oz. bottle • 8% ABV • February 2026 best-by date

Short version: No bad, no great.

Longer version: It's an interesting mix of quad-like and tripel-like qualities with a nose to die for — fruitcake and quad-like notes up front followed by almost a banana bread note with a little clove showing up as it warms for the tripel-like notes. Unfortunately, the flavor never fulfills the promise of the aroma, which I'm starting to wonder if that's a "me thing" vs. a beer thing b/c it happens a lot for me. Still, I'm enjoying the overall presentation and will look for other offerings from this brewery.

I haven't seen this in 20 years or so, and only had it once and liked it so much I stole the glass. Purchased at a distant Binny's.

A fine looking pour, dark brown, light doesn't penetrate, big light brown head leaves a nicely laced glass. Nose says roast, some cocoa. Flavor is similar, vanilla, stale coffee, dark fruit, and some licorice on the finish. It's a little thinner most Imperial Stouts, well carbonated, goes down easy.

Sun Rays Like Stilts Pale Ale from Pure Project

Clear amber brew with modest foam in the chalice. Aromas of faint citrus with something from under the sink. Flavors of melon, lime peel, and a dose of grapefruit in the finish. Rather bitter aftertaste. Overall this is an interesting Pale Ale that proves Pure can brew something drinkable.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Pilsner glass canned on 12/24/24. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow with a finger sticky white head that leaves thin lines of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma is peach, passionfruit, mango, pineapple, and apricot. 4.25

Taste follows peach, passionfruit, pineapple, mango, and apricot. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 7% it drinks slightly bigger in body and flavor, but still extremely easy going down. 4.5

Overall this is an excellent DDH NEIPA, not sure why they have this as an imperial IPA. Another winner from this brewery. 4.5 Cheers all.

Good new beer Sunday morning y’all! A boozy impy stout to start the day (for me, what else?) - New Holland’s Dragon’s Milk “Triple Mash” (2023). Stout aged one year in Bourbon barrels:

An IP trade with @Whyteboar. Bottled 1/19/23. Poured at 56°. Fast fizzy light tan head disappeared immediately leaving no cap retention, ring nor lace; no legs on swirl; mahogany body with ruby see-through and some clarity. Strong bourbon nose; boozy exhale. Entry is bourbon, followed by chocolate and vanilla; boozy bourbon middle; some oak in finish. Silky smooth feel; alcohol bite on tip of tongue; full mouth warmth from 17% abv; medium body; drinks thin for abv; light carbonation. Overall a boozy bourbon (which I like) stout which has a light body and the bourbon trumps the other flavors, so a bit out of balance.

    3.75 | 4.0 | 4.25 | 4.0 | 4.25
    Score: 4.14 RDev: -2.6%

A beer I would gladly drink again, and buy if I see it in Florida. Thanks Craig for this awesome beer!

[IMG] Good Sunday morning NBS/nbw and thanks @Beersnake for hosting this week
The midweek holiday(s) have this BA all screwed up schedule wise! Spoke with both team 1 and 2 this week so that was quite good.
Todays offering is from Alesmith, a very good variant of the always fantastic Speedway stout.
I appreciate the balanced touch, in the use of both the vanilla and the cinnamon.
Barrel touch is noticable but in the fabric , with the base offering.

    Cheers all

Poured from the 16 oz can into the test glass
A - Dark walnut color, carbonation assembles into a thin mocha colored ring, lasing the entire experience.
S - Cinnamon, up front, roast coffee, dark chocolate, some dark fruit in there as well. Hints of raisin, fig
T - Here the vanilla appears, cinnamon has a presence, while avoiding a starring role. Coffee and barrel treatment are not standout indivual elements. There is a lovely balance across the flavors as the offering warms.
M - Medium to slightly heavy texture, Silky on the palate, excellent bitter to sweet tension in this offering. Finish is protracted, linger has a desserty posture.
O - A very good variant, both the spice and the vanilla are in balance with the base offering

Enjoyed catching up. Hope one day we get a few from Riggs up here @champ103 , and I enjoyed your fishing / first beer remembrance @ZebulonXZogg .

My selection for New Beer Sunday #1036, the 2024 finale whether or not NBW is extended beyond today, is an audible. I don't really have another beer to theme pair it, at least among the case I have left for 2025, and the best by is in March 2025, so want to get this one in as "fresh" as possible.

Brewed with only the top ingredients.

Murphy's stout has been brewed to the same unique recipe since 1856. We pride ourselves in only using the top ingredients of pale malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley and hops. Murphy's offers you that uniquely smooth, creamy and wonderfully palatable full bodied stout flavour with roasted chocolate and coffee undertones and a 'biscuity sweet' malt aroma.

The Ingenious Floating Draughtflow system enables you to enjoy the creamy head of Murphy's from a can. Unchilled cans may overflow. Serving size 12 oz, servings per container 1.25, calories 124, Carbohydrates 10g; Fat 0g; Protein 2g. Pasteurized beer, brewed and canned by Heineken UK Limited, 3-4 Broadway Park, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Product of the UK, imported by Heineken USA, White Plains, NY.

Appearance: Poured a proper near US pint via a 45 degree pour of the can, yielding a generous one inch creamy off white plus light tan creamy head that linger until drinking a good portion. over the dark chestnut to near black base. Razor thin lacing left in its wake. Looks very good. 4.25

Aroma: Mild chocolate aroma leads, roasted malt and barley follows. Mild to medium in strength, medium in enjoyment. 3.75

Taste: Sweet chocolate over a mild roast coffee with sugar. Sweet ice chocolate coffee is what I'm gathering, too much sweetness for me and I believe for a proper presentation of the style. 3.0

Mouthfeel: Light and watery body, drinks light and easy in terms of alcohol and depth. Dry, roasted malt and whatever hops used fight but lose to the sweetness. Nitro can pour, sweet sugar coffee and milk chocolate finish. 3.25

Overall: This is just too sweet for a repeat purchase on my end. OK, but think I'll stick with Guinness. 3.25

Last beer this weekend unless we get another extension, then I'll see you Monday. Wishing you and yours a safe and Happy New Year and all the best in 2025!

Humble Forager Sequoia 29mo BBA Imperial Stout, 14% ABV. Barrels are Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill, and Willett rye. Pours thick and black with no head or bubbles evident, and it leaves an oily sheen instead of lacing. Aroma is strong bourbon, plus chocolate, coffee, vanilla and caramel. Taste is strong bourbon throwing shade, plus chocolate, rye spice, coffee, and vanilla, slightly sweet, slightly bitter, moderate bourbon burn, but in a nice way. Decent chewy and sticky mouthfeel, though lightly carbonated. Overall outstanding to world-class adjacent.

Land grant Son of a Mudder. Great American brown. Aromas and flavors of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, dark bread/crust, wood, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass. Medium pine/herbal/char bitter finish. Medium carb and body, balance creamy bready malt, sticky/resin hop, and chalky roast mouthfeel. Lingering bitter drying. Minimal acrid/astringency. Adequate hopping and a bit more roasty than most browns, but it's delicious with rich malt complexity. 4/5

Clear, pale gold body; dense, slow-rising carbonation; thick, frothy head, white and lasting. Excellent delicate malt grain base supporting a mildly spicy hop nose; bread crust; lightly floral. Nice taste; very light malt grain base; excellent hop bitterness; delicate toastiness. Medium bodied mouthfeel; soft residual sugar note; delicate dryness.

Overall, this is a decent little beer. The taste, while well-rounded, does come across a bit weak and watery.
