So I have a bottle of 2015 Goose Island BC Barleywine that says it is 12.9% but the one here on BA is listed as 14.4%.

Did they release several versions with different ABV? If so, should I add this as a new/retired beer?

    Thanks in advance!

Don't add it if it's the basic Barleywine. Yes, ABV varies from release to release, and in some cases different ABVs within the same year, for different markets. That's fine, just state what it is in your review.

the barleywine has been released multiple
Years. Each year the abv varies. Sometimes beers will have specific release dates associated with the beer. For example 2014 BC barleywine. 2015 BC barleywine. It doesn’t appear that there are separate listings/reviews for different vintages of BCBW. The BCBW you provided a link for was created in 2013 so a different beer.

Should we have different listings for different vintages, not just this BCBW but any beer that there is a change?

No. If it's the same beer, but different years and ABV, the BA rule is that you just have one. If you create one for each year, then mods eventually clean that up and combining them. Makes more work for them. Only create a new beer if it's substantially different - different name, difference in add-junks, etc.

A good example of this is BCBS Coffee. It's come out multiple years, but there's only one on BA.

I forget which year but I remember getting a hold of two different ABVs of the stout for the same vintage. Was interesting to try the two different blends.

2015 BCBSBW was infected. That bottle is probably infected … would be really interested in whether or not that’s the case.

Yup, and if if it's the same beer released multiple times, they eventually get consolidated when mods notice or it's reported. A lot of people don't realize they're not supposed to do that, so it keeps happening.

A good example is Founders KBS. We don't need one every year for the base KBS. We do need one for each new variant since they change the add-junks and the name from the base beer.

I thought that if the vintage of a repeated beer had a year on the label, it's a different listing?

In the Goose Island case, it's not fair for the 2015 infections and the associated reviews to be affecting ratings of clean beers from other years.

There sure are a lot of variables to this, such as a year on the label, or using barrels from a different bourbon. Should come down to whether the 'recipe' changes substantially - are they really different beers? Some are pretty clear cut such as Utopias, KBS, or KBBS. I doubt there are and hard and fast rules the mods use, are there @Todd ?

I have found mixed reviews on the 2015 Barleywine, would love to hear from our local BA experts on this vintage.

infected as in the beer was infected with a bacteria that gave them an off flavor that got worse with time. It was a HUGE story at the time that broke the barriers of the craft beer world and was reported on in local papers.

you'd probably be fine to drink it ... but I doubt you'll end up drinking a lot of it.
I had it before it turned over the Christmas Holiday in 2015 and loved it ... once the infection set in though, it was a disgusting mess. I lucked out that year drinking everything over the Holiday.
