If that Goller is not too aged, I think you'll like it. It's very good. Cool bottles too! Is the importer for the Sunner Kolsch on the bottle? I might could find that around here.

...if I were limited to one beer style, I'd go with a doppelbock: malty with a respectable ABV and a lager smoothness...the following beer is a post-massage beer...it hits the spot...

Klosterbrauerei Ettal -- Ettaler Curator Dunkler Doppelbock (US Import Version)
    Doppelbock
    ABV: 9%; pouring temperature: 53.3 °F; bottling info: n/a

I picked one of these up in June, your 2023 review sounds like a tasty balanced brew.

I lost sight of today's brew Aecht Schlenkerla Erle (Schwarzbier) in the beer fridge. Picked it up back in April. This is really well made as the roasted malts chocolate flavor actually comes thru the smoke yet i get that nice smoked cheese flavor on the back of the palate. Very balanced and enjoyable at 4.2% abv.
    Cheers!

@thebeers just posted a Maß of Weihenstephaner Festbier from Berlin and I'm super jealous right now. Man that must be nice!

Tom, that's a special beer. I never see that around. That'd be perfect for a Christmas Eve brew too.

...one of the Aecht Schlenkerla brews I'd love to try at some point...just have never seen it in distro in my area...got all the 'normal' offerings...I especially like the Urbock and Doppelbock...

I was in Berlin on a work trip a coulpe of weeks ago and had both Schultheiss and Berliner Kindl. They are both still there.

I have lived in Germany since the 1980's. In 2013-2014 I spent about 6 months in the USA, Florida and I was feeling your pain. Started having Bavarian Beer withdrawls. Last time I was in the US was 2017 when I got rid of my condo there. From a beer point of view was the best choice for me. I am not much of an IPA or Pale Ale fan.

...that is good to know...I do hope to return to Berlin some day...I'm sure I won't recognize a lot of it, especially the Stadtmitte area...and I never went to East Berlin because I abhor organized tours and, because of my security clearances, could not visit it on my own...

I wish more American restaurants would curate their beer offerings the way they do a wine list. At too many places I ask if they have a German Pilsner or Dunkel and the answer usually is (after a perplexled look) "No, but we have _____ or _____ IPA and (insert AAL)." At that point, I'll usually say bring me a water.

This has been a cry of Beer Advocates for decades.

It has been answered here and there, but not to any great extent. Americans can't get past beer being a pedestrian beverage. Unfortunately.

Yep. It's crazy too because there are so many good beer and food pairings. I enjoy a good IPA every now and then but there so much more out there.

...and a new (to me) German beer:

Brauerei Tucher Brau -- Tucher Naturtrüb Rotbier
    Rotbier
    ABV: 5.2%; pouring temperature: 49.5 °F; canning info: PRO: Sep.10.2024 BB: Dec.10.2025

Mildly hazy copper colored pour and body; thick and dense off-white head, long-lasting. Robust nose; warm, sweet caramel notes with faint esters; delicate pome fruit sweetness. Outstanding mild cereal grain backbone; lightly sweet yet dull cherry-like taste; delicate overall bitterness. Heavy body; light and velvety on the palate; hint of alcohol dryness offsetting the residual sugars.

This tasty German beer treat really hits the spot. It infuses an earthy sweetness and mild overall dryness and is quite drinkable with its rustic character. Highly recommended.

That's a nice one, Tried it for the first time a couple months ago. I'm glad to know you caught some fruitiness in the aroma. The can I had you could barely notice it, so I thought I might be imaging it!

...truth be told, I'm sure it was the Japanese whisky auxiliary vice that produced that sensation for me :sunglasses:...
