I see “Brandy Barrel Aged Dark Lord with Vanilla Beans” from 2011 was taken out of retirement on this site and listed as “Active” again. This brought it into the current top 250. This beer was aged in exclusively in brandy barrels with vanilla beans. I assume this was done because folks believed the upcoming (at the time) 2025 “Brandy Vanilla Dark Lord” was a remake using the same treatment. Now that we know the 2025 “Brandy Vanilla Dark Lord” is actually a BOURBON barrel plus Brandy barrel with vanilla beans beer…(as stated on the label) why are we still considering it the same beer? All of the check-ins from 2025 on the page say they consumed at DLD 2025 or from a 2025 bottle - that would mean they checked in the wrong beer on the wrong beer page. It would also mean they never re-made the brandy barrels exclusively beer for release in 2025. I don’t even see a page on Beer Advocate for this bourbon/brandy/vanilla “2025 Brandy Vanilla Dark Lord” product. I noticed untappd corrected the same issue they had by moving all incorrect check-ins to the new separate listing after it was known that this beer included bourbon in addition to brandy.
Seems a valid point. You could create the new beer entry, put your review there, and submit an issue on the old beer making your point. Admins would move the newer reviews to your newly created entry, presuming they concur, and retire the original beer again.
Easy fix... I've updated the 2011 release and renamed it to its actual name: Brandy Barrel Aged Dark Lord With Vanilla Beans (2011) and retired it. I've adjusted the name of the 2025 release: Brandy Vanilla Dark Lord (2025) and will do my best to move over ratings before I crash out tonight. Eventually I'll review older entries to ensure that beer names match what they're actually called. Also tagging @mactrail, as it looks like he handled the last updates for this beer. Thanks!
Yes thanks. I remember bringing this up at some point when this beer was announced for the latest DLD. I’m happy there’s some closure on the consensus.
Was is necessary to leave a 1/5 review because you were upset about this? Seems to be an abuse of the rating system.
Maybe there's a reasonable explanation for his rating, but otherwise I agree with you. I went ahead and reported it myself. We'll see what @Todd says.
He states in the review that he didn't like it and questions if he got a bad bottle. If we used either one of these as a criteria for removing ratings...I'd be spending most of my day handling reports and deleting ratings.
I believe he edited that in after my post. Initially it was only about the incorrect listing. Fair enough I suppose.
As @kodt indicated, it appears he edited his review after the posts from @kodt and myself. Which is appreciated. In any case, glad the problem has been resolved
