Just popped a bottle of 13 WC and it tastes like slightly tart, rotten apple juice.

Anyone else get an off bottle?

Ruh-roh! I wondered if Ebony and Oak was just foreshadowing for other barrel-aging issues to come...

Infection issues are never fun. Here we go...

Would infection make it to kegs, too? Not sure if the Bruery separates filling bottles versus kegs, because the keg drafts I had were fine with no sign of infection. Or my palette just sucks!

Depends on if they force-carbed or not. Bottle conditioning can accelerate an already existing infection, as it gives any incipient bacteria more food.

Storage temperature would also come into play, as kegs will be kept cold, greatly slowing down bacterial activity, while people might have bottles stored at room temperature.

I'm curious to open a bottle now, really hope there's not a widespread infection issue.

I've had beer from at least a half-dozen bottles of WC over both last year's and this year's batch - never tasted anything resembling an infection. Here's hoping it's just your bottle (not to be a dick).

I did pick up some tartness in my last bottle. Other people at the tasting who weren't sure what was opened asked if it was a sour.

'12 WC is definitely not an issue. Would just be '13 bottles. I'm curious to open a few of my '13's now.

They are still serving Ebony & Oak at the Bruery, had it on Sunday and thought it was really good - so at least for that beer it appears to have been a bottle only issue.
Edit: Also had the WC '13 and thought it tasted just like it should.

A case?! Different folks, different tastes I guess.

While I don't really care if this batch is infected or not (didn't get any WC this year), the "trend" of infections would be a definite concern. If BT is infected...

    No Dick inferred.

I popped this at a Beachwood tasting today with 9 others and all agreed it was way off. I had a 12 about a month ago and it was spot on.

    Just saying.

Yep. Definitely something wrong with the first bottle of '13 I opened (I have since opened a second one that was fine.) Mine smelled more like champagne or white wine than it did white chocolate and it was sour. Completely different than the one I got with my first RS shipment earlier this year. FWIW, I emailed The Bruery and they are sending me another one, so at least the customer service is awesome. But I hate sours
