Good morning hefe hikers and sour spelunkers! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your goblets, pints, and mugs today!

Weather in Central OH is a little chilly but about what you would expect for February. We got a bunch of rain and warmer weather this week so most of the snow is gone. We now have landscape that has taken on the usual browns, grays, and ugly greens that we've all come to know and love as part of winter.

Despite the weather we have new beer exploits to warm our hearts and cheer our spirits this fine day. I managed to FINALLY get my grubby mitts on a sixer of New Belgium's Rampant which will probably be making an appearance later today. Smarter minds than mine will probably know why NB started distributing only in bombers for a few months before releasing six packs to Central OH. Regardless, I'm glad I can now get a six pack of their goodies and I'll be sure to report on that here.

Please follow suit! This is the thread to share about your new beer. Please grab a new beer, sample it, and TELL us about it here. Kindly provide a good description of your beer that's new to you. If you feel inclined, linked reviews, pictures, videos, smell-a-vision, and other technological acrobatics are always enjoyed by all here.

No need to be an English major or world-class beer judge. Just share your thoughts so we can all enjoy your findings on this fine Sunday. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

    Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

In my area, craft availability is in it's very beginning stages. Our state does not have access to Troeg's Victory, Stone, New Belgium etc..however a few of the distributors have been making trek's to various breweries to talk with them about coming into our state and this past week one went to Troeg's in PA, and brought me back a growler of Barrel Aged Troegenator, so that is my new beer of the week!

Has a VERY dark ruby tint, almost brown appearence.

Light, soft smell, with hints of bourbon, a little vanilla. Slight alcohol note.

Incredible taste. Great carbonation, has a sweet taste, with hints of oak, vanilla, just a twang of bitterness with just a hint of an alcohol finish (it is 11% I think!)
Smooth mouthfeel, the carbonation almost makes it feel as if it just glides over your palate. Really enjoying this beer.
If your ever able to get some, I highly recommend it. It certainly does not drink like an 11% beer for sure. Great way to start off a new week with a great new beer! Cheers all!

    Good morning!

My first new beer this lovely day is actually my third attempt at Ballast Point Sculpin. I've had it old and skunky twice; this time, the can is from earlier in the month, so I was pretty excited.

    Very cool, old-fashioned can.

Dear lord, that's a lot of head!

I described this as lacing befitting a nightmare spiderweb.

So, how was it? If you saw my post on WBAYDN?, you know that I was very pleased. I could definitely see this as a daily-drinking IPA (if you are fortunate enough to regularly get it fresh). I think it fits well with Jai Alai and Flower Power, although I personally prefer Jai Alai by a significant margin. They're playing the same game, is my point, even if one plays it better.

    Taste:
Sweet grapefruit, tropical fruit, significant dry/earthy bitterness, citrus peel finish; biscuit and caramel malt backbone. Well-balanced.

I'll be back later; brought home a lot of new beer from VT to try. Cheers!

Good morning NBS friends. I am beginning to think that this harsh winter will not end until the middle of April... Oh well at least I have some great beers to help me through the rest of it. Today I am enjoying Epic Big Bad Baptist. It has a medium body and a very coffee forward aroma and flavor. There are good amounts of dark chocolate along with some earthy hops. Any bourbon is very subtle, and makes this quite delicious. I recommend you get one if it is at a store near you.

    New Stout Sunday

Hi everyone and today for New Beer Sunday I have a beer I have been dying to try. This is Guinness Extra stout. That's not the "foreign extra." The weather here has been just horrendous. It was too cold to breathe then it warmed up and rained and some of the snow melted. But at night that melted snow refroze and we re greeted everywhere by sheets of ice. It's like God is laughing at me . . . "hahaha try to go get more beer." =)

I am very happy to have tried this beer since the first time I had it back in 1987 or 88 when I went to Ireland with a bunch of nuns from my all girls catholic college, The College of New Rochelle. I so enjoyed Ireland and I remember thinking this was one rich beer when I tasted it back then. Not so anymore. Now I think it's pretty tame by comparison to some of the stouts I have had. When I first saw it I admit I had never seen a black beer before nor a head so fat and creamy. I drank this until I missed the tour bus one day and I was met by Sister Agnes Mary in my hotel room shouting GET UP!

I liked the beer. I really did. Cheers y'all. (They would not let me on the trip to The Soviet Union the following year because they said I could not be trusted. =)

I bought a bootleg tape of the POlice from a fellow in Dublin. Found a Chinese restaurant that made perfect eggrolls int he middle of ireland, there were sheep outside . . . and when I hugged the cross at some poets grave the prophecy was I should never be married. I kissed the blarney stone even though they said people peed on it at night and I have never seen so many nuns so drunk every night on brown bread and gin and tonic. I'M a trouble maker? Bunratty castle was so fun and if I were a maiden I would wear a pointy hat and eat all my chicken without a fork. CHEERS!

    New Altbier Sunday (week 470)
Warm day here, overcast, lotsa snow melt, lotsa water-slick ice to beware of, and mega mud I had to work in making sure the proper raw materials were diverted to their proper re-use at work this morning. Grateful and motivated local residents make a hard job rewarding and even fun.

Wish I could say this beer is more fun. Iit is a strange one to say the least, and not in a good way. You can read all the gory details of my eviscerative review of it here.

Wish I had a Great American Beer in my glass, hope you do. Cheers!

@tbaker397 Cheers on getting to try that BA troegenator, a stellar brew for sure.

Hey NBSers! Rising spirits to match the rising tempratures here in Amish country. Back from a long sunny walk with the family and I'm enjoying this currently.

A couple of weeks ago I was roasting plums and apples to make baby food. The house smelled great as I opened a pilsner. As I sniffed the pils with that wonderful aroma in the air, it occurred to me that a plum pilsner might be pretty good. I still hope to try one someday but this will do in the meantime.

    Cheers guys!

Greetings fellow NBSers! A blast of winter has hit the Fourth Corner, we woke up to 2-3 inches of snow, the first snow we've had in town all winter long. I'm still sitting with my "nephew" and when we took our morning walk in the park, he spent a lot of time rolling and rubbing in the white stuff. The Daytona 500 is a few minutes old, and I'm pretty happy. The darkness that is the seemingly endless NFL season is behind us, Spring Training is underway (and, of course the local Seattle Mariners have already had some injuries. Way to keep Marinering Mariners!) and we're racing.

My first entry today is a bottle I've had kicking around for a while, but since it's bottle conditioned, the age hasn't hurt it at all. The brewery is interesting, in that they are using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients as much as possible, and make different beers depending on the season. New Quad Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

    Good tales to tell Jane!
We survived two storms this week. The 2nd is one of the worst kind. Big heavy, wet snow on a sheet of ice that gets packed down and then is followed by a nasty cold snap. So now we will have many days of slippery snow/ice covered roads and with no break is sight from the cold driving will stink for at least a week. Even my Interstate to work will still have ice it for the week. That is a rarity. The warmer sun will help, but not enough. A pretty brutal winter all in all. But I did split some wood yesterday and yes it is true some wood splits easier when it is very cold - a couple of logs were still really tough.

In honor of a continuing winter I bring out bigger beer to warm my soul. Nice complex and very rich big Belgian beer. The added plums are noticeable on the aroma but much less so on the taste. Nice beer.

I think Kissin could play Chopsticks and it would sound like great music.

Funny story about the Police, they played at a local venue called The Chance back when they first started. Only four people showed up, but they went on anyway, and according to local legend it was the best show they ever did. Four lucky folks, ayy?

I love Guinness Extra when there are no domestic craft selections at venues. Once your palate gets used to it being unexpectedly more thin than stouts we are used to enjoying, the flavors become tasty.

I'm going reverse order for beer number two. First, let's set the stage with a little music:

Now that you have the appropriate mindset for the beer I'm about to unleash upon my tastebuds, let's share:

OK, OK, that's exciting enough, but how does it look?

Amazing. Sometimes I see a beer on this forum - usually a stout - that, just by the appearance, makes me a little happy inside. This beer definitely did the same.

Oh, but how about taste? Sadly, I must report that, for the first time in recent memory, I am absolutely blown away by a beer, and feel I'm probably giving it too much credit - if that's possible. It is unbelievably good. Superb, incredible balance. An incredible hop profile, based almost entirely on Mosaic (which totally lives up to its name here).

Here, I'll let my review do the talking:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22511/90634/?ba=Roguer

Having this as part of a tasting at HF doesn't do it justice; having it on a fresh palate is simply amazing. I'm glad I'll get to share this with a friend:

Don't laugh at my crappy wax job; I'm terrified of a growler leaking.

This will probably be my last new beer for the day, although it's early, so who knows. Cheers, friends; I look forward to what new thrills you may discover today!

Perhaps the Pastoral Symphony (no. 6) would have been more appropriate, based on the name (Society and Solitude), but I've had this tune in my head for a while, so forgive me.

Lat week I had the pleasure of drinking a bottle of Hop Ranch, which is not available in WI. I have been waiting for DirtWolf to make an appearance in WI and it finally did this week. I was able to get the last 4 pk at one of my favorite shops. This is one enjoyable offering from Victory. The nose is big tropical fruit with some citrus and surprisingly the taste is big on bitter citrus with some tropical notes. This one is a nice easy drinking IIPA that I hope to see more of in the future. Cheers!

An "amber" that's basically a big, piney-hop American pale ale (up to the light it looks like an English pale ale; tastes exactly like a piney American pale/IPA)

The Fuggles hops works like a balancer ... with very little malt taste, those Fuggles are giving the big pine some earthy undernotes. Tastes pretty good.

This beer was originally named "The Bellows," and New Republic got sued by a bourbon maker using that name, so New Republic changed the name of its beer (to a name, coincidentally, already used by another beer maker).

So I might be posting this beer again on a future New Beer Sunday when NR has to rename it *again*.

It's good beer and in my glass ... now if somebody will make the rain vacate the Daytona Beach, Fla., area ...

Guinness Extra stout is a fine beer. I cannot say the same for the watery concoction known as "draught". To me, this is real beer. One of the first I ever tried other than a macro AAL. It will always have a soft spot in my heart. I revisit it every now and then. Never disappointed. Glad you liked it, Jane.

Hello all! Sunny, but cold, here in Wisconsin. I'm still continuing my journey of Wisconsin brews. There are certainly many of them that don't get to my native New Jersey. New Quadrupel Sunday

It's been awhile since I last posted on a New Beer Sunday. Today a very nice sunny low 50s day in Northern Utah. Saw this brew a couple of weeks ago in the SLS, surprised at first, so I picked it up. Had some kind of Ovila awhile back, thought this one was the same, but in a smaller bottle, glad it wasn't and a new one for me. Pretty taste, worth a shot for anyone who has not tried it yet.

Good afternoon and greetings to the NBS gang. Thanks for giving me a spot in this ultra inclusive Public House, it's always a pleasure to participate. So much good stuff going on today, as always.
Here's the Jersey Shore weather report: I took a run outside yesterday and today for the first times since before Christmas. I went early, so it meant sweats. Now? 60 degrees and sunny. I was outside in a t-shirt just now. Such a nice weekend. I even reacquainted myself with my golf clubs in hopes of playing soon. We'll see.
