What is the definition of tasting like beer? With so many styles in existence, I don't think that "beer" has a definitive taste.

I was wondering if anyone was going to say Hopstache, so much grapefruit in such a good way.

For a fully grapefruit forward IPA without the best presentation is Perrin's Grapefruit IPA, it tastes like a glass of grapefruit juice with beer splashed in :slight_frown:

I agree and should have read on before posting my previous post. The idea of beer tasting like "beer" reminds me of my uncles who seem to define "beer" as the taste of an American Light Lager, and anything else is considered a fruity or "dark" beer (even IPA's). I don't agree with that idea at all, but in a small rural town of Illinois, that is a common way of thinking.

I was simply agreeing that there are a lot of so called "beers" that do their best to taste like "not beer". I feel like these resemble something like Mike's Hard Lemonade more than beer. Just because the brewer labels it a cucumber saison (even though it has so much cucumber there is nothing resembling a saison to be found) doesn't mean it really belongs in the saison category. Or a watermelon kolsch that tastes just like a watermelon wine cooler.

To add to my earlier post, I'd put the Schlafly Tasmanian IPA on the grapefruity side, too. That's just a citrus bomb in general though.

GD Hercules is a grapefruit bomb, I didn't think the Grapefruit Slam IPA was nearly as potent as Hercules

My buddy who is the beer orderer at my local store said that he got the same flavors/nose, he also said Oskar blues had the same problem with Gubna and it was due to the deterioration of the hops.
