Decided to ago with another new-to-me, lower ABV beer.

A hoppy, well done pale ale at only 4.4% ABV.

I spent my first 30 years in the NW, but this was my first "NWPA"... I would have to say it doesn't live up to it's name... Maybe a NWMB (North West Malt Bomb).

Busy, busy, busy, but the little dude is sleeping, and the little girl is being remarkably well-behaved, giving me a chance to not only enjoy a lunch beer, but take a pic and post and everything!

    St. Bernardus Tripel

This is a remarkable beer. It's a very traditional, and very excellent, Tripel. I rank it right behind Westmalle, which is super high praise from me. The mouthfeel is simply superb.

I've been very impressed lately with St. B. I wasn't beyond impressed with the Quad, but both the Dubbel and Tripel have been excellent. Something to be said for a fresh palate, I suppose, not overwhelmed by hops.

    Cheers, BAs!

Yes, I've only ever had a lone 6-pack of this back in 2012, and my first impression was that it was too unbalanced towards the malty side. I think it has the hopping of a pale ale, and the malt backbone of an IPA.

Have not tried this beer yet, but wife and I loved the Christmas Ale - we're stocked up for the 2014 season. The bottle we had was two years old and if it suffered any ills, we can't tell - it was just plain "good stuff" - not overblown in any way. When my inventory draw-down ends, have to give this one a try.

I wasn't blown away by ABT 12, compared to Roche 10, for example. However, on a fresh palate over the last few days, I've tried the Pater 8 (Dubbel) and the Tripel, and both were very impressive - especially the Tripel.

Considering that St. B prices are pretty good, they're definitely worth trying out.

    Cheers!

The baby has a touch of conjunctivitis so I'm home with him today. Winter has begun to loosen its grip on us up here in Boston, so I figured I'd relax outside with a Nugget Nectar while he's napping.
