Good morning Belgians dubble bunnies and Czech pils chickadees! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your mugs, pints, and flutes today!

Weather in Central OH is warm and spring-like. This will be short as the weather is warm and the outside work is long.

Today is the day and this is the place for you to TRY a new beer and TELL us about it here. Please find a beer that's new to you, drink it, and give us a GOOD description of what you had. A good description is the ask to participate and will keep this thread going every week. Feel free to add to your description using a linked review, pics, videos, and other accouterments that tickle your fancy. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

    Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Greetings to all the NBS faithful!

60F+ yesterday, I wake up to find, as predicted, more snow on the ground today. Oh well.

My first new beer, which I posted on the WBAYDN thread, Grand Teton Lazy Marmot Maibock. A pic and a review:

Upslope Brewing Belgian Style Pale Ale.

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18564/80805/?ba=Bitterbill

Whenever I see the words "Belgian Style Pale Ale"(or others), I have hopes that I find the brew, if given in a blind tasting, tasting like it was actually brewed in the country of origin of the style. With this Upslope, I would have guessed it was from Belgium. A better compliment, I could not give.

Greetings, all! The weather in Cleveland is just as nice as Columbus, it's already over 70 degrees. A day of yard work awaits me as well but no harm drinking a beer before getting started! I was lucky enough to go to the beautiful city of Santa Rosa, CA last week, and stopped at (for the second time) this little brewery located there. Fresh Supplication was worthy of its 100 point review though I got a bottle to age and of course I couldn't not have a Pliny on tap, though this was tempting as well. Instead a bottle made it back in my luggage and today seemed the perfect day to open it.

Just bottled 10 days ago per the label, almost as good as on tap, right? It certainly tastes incredibly fresh. I think I like Pliny a bit better but this is up there with the top IPAs I've had. Crisp and refreshing, perfect for a warm day like today. It blends a little bit of everything one could want in a good IPA - citrus/pine/floral hops but with a solid malt backbone. Quite modest at 6% yet packed with flavors, and you could smell all of the above as soon as the cap was off the bottle. I hope everyone has a wonderful day and enjoys some great beer. Cheers!

    NEW DUBBEL SUNDAY

Greetings NBSers, hope you all (except Bill) are enjoying a fine spring day like we are south central PA. Lots to do outside today with the priority keeping bugs and dirt out of the little guys mouth.

I was up until one this morning finishing an entertaining but kind of manipulative Matt Haig book while sipping this.

I enjoyed more than other people seemed to. I thought the honey for candi sugar substitution worked well. Anyway, cheers and thanks again Matt for the best thread on BA!

Boulevard Dark Truth Stout. IMO It's a great Belgian-Style Strong Dark Ale with a hint of smoke. Thanks Asheville!

Morning, NBSers! Today, I'm going to cheat a little bit, as I'm finishing off the bottle of 50/50 Eclipse Evan Williams that I started last night.

Actually poured a fine head the day after.

Thoughts? Well, it's no BCBS. It loses out to the industry standard-bearer in just about every way. It's noticeably thinner; the flavor is less rich, and more affected by the time in the barrel. That's not to say it's a poorly crafted beer; in fact, it's quite good! It's an absolutely beautiful beer, with a huge, dark brown head with excellent retention. It's also got a very unique sweet whiskey-with-berries flavor to it, no doubt influenced by the Evan Williams. (It's too expensive to try each cap, but I get the distinct impression that each of the Eclipse series is going to taste unique.)

Is it worth a try? I suppose that depends on your level of disposable income. Having had it, I think I'd personally rather have procured another 4-pack of BCBS, but your palate may vary.

(FWIW, the wife did not like this at all, and she loves imperial stouts. I'm going to have to share a bottle with BCBS with her and see if it's the BA stout style overall that she dislikes, or if it was the Evan Williams characteristics of this particular beverage that she disliked.)

Cheers NBSers; I'll be back later (hopefully) with some brand new beer for me!

I've been waiting to try the 4 new IPA's that Point was releasing this Spring. Well they finally arrived and I grabbed one of each to try. One Shot was very good, uses Calypso hops. The peach mango was a big mess...
This White IPA is one of the better I have had. The Sorachi Ace hops really stand out with a lemon, grassy, earthy aromas and flavors. It is very bitter on my palate, mostly because the malt is very light and cracker like. It's nice to see Point launching new beers that started in 2012.

Toppling Goliath Hop Patrol strikes again. This has been on my wants list for over a year and it finally was bottled and shipped up to Madison. Supplies were limited, so I feel lucky to get to try it. It is light for an IPA, but really packs in a ton of flavor. Tropical, herbal, leafy hops blend with a sweet biscuit and honey malt. It is so tasty and the combo of Nugget Hops and Golden Promise malt explode in my mouth. Awesome!

Time for something new. Just spent a minute fixing up the cellar, perusing the bottles, and spied this little fellow. Yes, that'll do.

    Prairie Coffee Noir
    [IMG]

Lovely beer. Coffee stout: the coffee is extremely forward and dark, especially in the nose, but it doesn't overwhelm the other flavors. Whiskey barrel aged: slight tang, big oak notes, lighter vanilla, but like the coffee, it doesn't dominate everything else.

Putting all of that together into an 11.5% ABV stout this well-blended and balanced is pretty impressive. Super thick mouthfeel, with a bit of foam the only drawback there. The flavors aren't exactly what I want in a coffee stout (or a BA stout), but it's still very good. Check it out.

New Hefeweizen Sunday! The weather is warm and the beer is cold. :sunglasses:

Yuengling Summer Wheat. A Traditional Weizen beer.

A-It pours deep golden orange color which is opaque. The head foams slightly at first, giving way to a thin white head eventually settling on top which remains till the end of the pint.

S-Bananna, light herbal spice with some light citrus, wow.

M-Crisp, refreshing leading to creamy in a hanks orange soda kind of way.

T-It begins with striking balance between fruity banana and maybe cloves. There is a bright orange citrus taste that pops on the way down.

O-This is a well done wheat/weizen beer. Dare I say my favorite offering from Yuengling? Easiy. I foresee drinking quite a bit of this during the coming months.

Have a nice end to the weekend y'all.
    Cheers!

As the weather warms here in Central Ohio the mind wanders to thought of baseball, BBQ and of course beer. A nice lazy Sunday full of Jim Nantz witticisms and puts galore. Time to watch Amen Corner make even the best golfers cringe. But I digress.

Why not Hop Stoopid? Pours a nice orange color with plenty of head. Not big on the nose, but you do get some citrus there. On par with a lot of hoppy type ales. Drive towards the taste and I get a nice chip of hops, and then backspins nicely into a malty finish. Holes out very nicely. Overall a very good beer that goes right down the fairway.

One pour no fuss Sunday. Boo-yeah!

Greetings fellow NBSers! A gorgeous spring day here in the Fourth Corner, sunny, clear and highs expected to be around 60. I've had quite the week.

Monday a friend and I went out Highway 542 to Deming, WA and visited North Fork Brewery, Pizzeria, Beer Shrine, and Wedding Chapel. My buddy Eric is the brewer out there, and last Sunday he had clued us into a whiskey barrel version of his Barleywine he had just put on tap. Several brews were enjoyed, including some unreleased stuff, straight from the tanks. Tuesday, the local brewery where I sometimes help out did their annual bus trip to the Seattle Mariners home opener (where I got to see my boy Albert Pujols hit a 2-run shot, and an M's win). Yes there was beer on the bus, plus cask beer at the stadium. Wednesday was work, and a bunch of beers. Thursday was work, plus my weekly walk with my Nephew the Mastiff (I gave my liver the day off). On Friday, Skagit River Brewery, a half hour South in Mt. Vernon, WA, was pouring a Firkin at the Mariners game. They ran a bus as well. It was good that my liver was well-rested, because many cans of brew were sacrificed. Then yesterday was my monthly volunteer gig as security in the beer garden at our local roller derby bout. Whew! Time for a brew!

Two new breweries have recently opened here in town, and this entry is from one of them, Aslan Brewing: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/31399/118053/?ba=beertunes. They're brand new, and haven't brewed on a system larger than a 1/2 bbl homebrew system before, I think they'll get better with time.
