Good golly that looks tasty, better than our simple egg noodles and bacon morels. Best season here in about 8 years, hope they are plentiful enough by you so you can continue getting fresh ones like those beauties in the pic. Here is a pic of some of the larger (not necessarily better) ones we found today, with a beer that is actually a wonderful accompaniment.

Well I gotta tell ya, this was the first time I ever had morels and my wife and I were dam impressed.

Pretty much everything I read online said to just cook them as is, no seasoning, nothing fancy.

Ergo, I damp cleaned them and dredged them in flour and sauteed them in butter. Even double sauteed as my wife was outside working and they got cold so I reheated them up, getting them to shrink and concentrate even more. The kitchen just filled with the aroma.

Man do they taste GOOD!!.. so friggin earth and rich, we were huge fans, but with so little that we had, they were gone in a flash. As you probably saw, we didn't have many, and with mushrooms they shrink pretty fast. And of course unlike you, we only saw them on a whim at a farmers market and being in the DC area they were NOT cheap...

Long time coming back in the day... where my pop would grow stuff on the porch. Of course I am sure he didn't grow these since they are wild or something, he had books on mushrooms, all sorts of crazy stuff... dude was such a hippie  probably still is

The beer worked out nicely, hard to not pair that style and have a food problem. I'll probably say something about it in the food pairing thread but till then we're hooked on these little brains. They really just seem to work out in this method and then putting them on top of something, like a burger, oh I cant imagine how deep these would be with a rich stroganoff it would probably kill me... Probably honestly a waste, should just eat them as is!

Well to more good food and drink!

PS. Haven't had that Ithaca brew before, looks like another one to add up to give a go at for sure.

    Cheers!

    Greetings NBSers!

Sorry for the late arrival but it was a beautiful day in So. IL. Had a great motorcycle ride this afternoon followed by some relaxing time on the deck and dinner with my better half.

Been saving this for a few weeks awaiting a quality time to give it a review for #600. It was worth the wait:

Checking in for the great northwest with an east coast entry, Third Voyage by Sam Adams. A decent DIPA. Sweet and caramel flavored.

Seasonal here in the Columbia Basin, breezy with temps the in the upper 60's. Played a little golf yesterday, got a lot of the garden planted today. A good weekend, but Monday looms. :-(

    Happy Trails!

One more entry for the night, and then I'm done (let's face it, I'm done already). This New Stout Sunday comes courtesy of @Shroud0fdoom, who provided me with two new brews today. And what a tasty brew it is!

Man, this is delicious. Incredibly coffee forward, but very easy drinking and balanced. Excellent, excellent coffee stout.

Greetings BAs and feel the warmth here in western PA. It's actually sunny and over 45 degrees - the nicest day since I left last Monday. Came home from MI with about 40 new (to me) beers - and worked the Brewery Vivant booth at the WEB Friday night. I normally work the Great Lakes booth, but this year they weren't there, nor was Sam Adams. Still, it gets bigger every year with more MI breweries.

This is only the building - they've added two tents as well - note the "unpaid worker" tee shirt. Before we were volunteers but this year we're "unpaid workers". Must have added a lawyer to the organizing committee!

But anyway, one of those new beers from MI is this guy:

I hadn't heard of it before but since the label is mostly Deutsch I figured I'd try it first (while using my Duden to try to translate). It's a "Rotblondes" but I'd call it a nice malty altbier - not too sweet and not too bitter, quite nicely balanced. It starts off malty and ends with a little hop bitterness.

Well, that's about it for me on this thread today, except for this whale-oriented piece:

Well, I'm just trying to get the lay of the land here. But what the hell (and forgive the copy and paste, but it captures how I felt at the time)-

I had a Cigar City Hopped on the High Seas (Calypso Hops)- my first experience with these hops:
Dare I use the word 'beguiling'? Because although it comes across as rather gentle and mild at first, each sip seems to bring something new to the forefront- it started with berries, then some guava, then some pears- but it's all on a rather pleasant even keel. This is not what I was expecting, but of the same token it is growing on me more than I had hoped (or even thought it would after the first sip). Fascinating. More study is needed.

    __________________________________
So I actually did have another one tonight. Obviously, it's less of a mystery to me now, but the hop quality is still kind of hard to pin down. I do appreciate how different this is, but that's about as far as it goes. I will enjoy the remainder of the sixer for what it is, but don't see myself getting it again. Good effort, but overall if I were to give it a grade it would be in the 3.75 area.

    NEW MILK STOUT SUNDAY!

Good day y'all! Sunday is winding down out here in south central LA - time to out my feet up, crack open up a beer that new for me-

To me , belching beaver brewing is still a mystery- I've only had a chance to try 2 other brews by them - rabid beaver (rye IPA) and dammed (double ipa) both of which were great-

Belching beaver - Vista California - this is what I know about vista : _________________________ yea pretty much nothin! Except that I kno it's about a stones throw away from Mexico - "you boys like MEXICO?" Lol

When I saw these beers hit town I noticed everyone going for this particular milk stout- (not to be confused with their regular milk stout)

Take a big whiff of Peanut butter! ^^^^

Seems like my Instagram followers (mostly LA based) were posting every other day about this one -

Finally I decided to see what the whole fuss was about and scooped one up this morning - 7.99 - pretty much my favorite price for a bomber - so far thinking about this purchase only thing keeping me skeptical is the 5.3 %alc -

    Anyhow bottoms up!

Pouring this brew into 2 vessels - mostly cause I wanna try a good cold shot of this - weather in LA has been upwards of a hundred degrees this week - I definately want something cold right now - the other leaving out to warm up a bit -

Smells like that junk Starbucks macchiato my wife likes - no hops or malts in the nose - straight up more caramel than peanut butter -

First taste - virtually no alcohol bite here - no hops no anything - is this a beer? Sure looks like one -

Mouthfeel very lite - kinda in a hurry to go down my neck - a "let's get it over with" mouthfeel - right onto the next big gulp - no need sipping this one -

Overall I'm having a hard time tasting any kind of hops or roasted malts - wow where is the peanut butter? Lots of caramel instead!! - not gonna lie this was a let down -

3.25/5 - one and done for me -
Not a big milk stout guy yet but I did enjoy left hand nitro and Yule Maelk -

Time to bid adieu to y'all- thanks for lettin me live vicariously thru this forum all day ..

    -Vicariously drunk , Rick

    Greeting NBS'ers,
Busy day on the thread for sure. A Beautiful day in the neighborhood and rightfully so as the week was cold, dreary and wet. Started at 62 degrees and got up to 72 today with enough sunshine to make us all happy. Mowed an insanely overgrown lawn and got the veggie garden started today. Took the dog for a nice long walk and finished of on the BBQ making burgers. Now onto a new beer and this one is thanks to @77apm .

Pours a cloudy red-brown with big khaki head that takes its time settling down and leaves some great lacing behind. Aromas of coffee, toasted grain, sweet bread a light floral note and a hint of citrus. Taste of chocolate, espresso, roasted malt, a light herbal note from the nugget hops, with a slightly dry bitter finish. Smooth mouthfeel with medium body and decent carbonation and a resinous aftertaste. A good american brown (with some porter-ish roots) and a nice hop character. Will be looking for more for sure.

A good week to all and Cheers

    How Gose it NBSer's.
    Nice opening Maria.

Well, I'm breaking into a category I've only sporadically tried in the past. Gose.
A guy at my local Trader Joe's who knows I trade, and chats me up ocassionally about beer, tossed me a can of Westbrook GOSE.

Wow!!! Sour (like really sour green apples), salty kiss to a slightly vinegary/citrusy finish. I wish I would have had this by the pool on a hot day. Really good. Highly recommend.

PS Weather was really nice today in SoCal, but I didn't want to jinx it.

    Cheers All.

Glad to be back in the West. Definitely gonna miss some of the food and people in the middle, though. Always good to see Grandma too as you're never sure when the next time might be. And I got to see my best friends in a surprise visit for graduation. There was much rejoicing. And drinking. Lots of good beers and then some...
Also, go to the City Museum. Just do.
Picked this one up on our brief grocery trip back up to the island from the airport, and have enjoyed it. Juicy and well put together. Actually saw one of the few reviews were from a name I recognized from these parts, but didn't see him around here today. D'ah, well.
