I recently found out how much I like this style. I think I'm going through my sour phase right now. They are all I'm craving after a friend shared a Cascade Kriek with me recently. If possible, give me your recommendations for fairly easily acquired 'good' sours that are able to be found in the Northeast. I'm in CT and in NY frequently.
OEC brewing does some nice sours. They are brewery only however the brewery is located in Oxford, CT. Worth taking the trip to get a wider introduction to sours.
I second the OEC recommendation above. I was there on Saturday and they had some really solid funk beers on tap and I noticed they are having a sour beer fest on the 23rd that you should check out if you are around. https://www.facebook.com/events/1447590348848874/?ref=5
Cisco makes some good sours if you can still find them. I know some stores might have Pechish Woods and Monomoy Kriek still on shelves. Also Weyerbacher Riserva was good.
If you need to scratch that gueuze itch try Cuvee Rene from Lindemans. Allagash Coolship releases are nice if you want to make the trip to Maine. I second Cisco. Other Cascades are on the shelf, but ooof- that $32 price point is no bueno. Tilquin and 3F you should also be able to find.
if it's reasonable given your schedule and location, keep an eye on CBC's tap list and head up there if cerise cassee or kriek du cambridge (or really any sour beer) is on, and you won't be sorry. CBC does sour beer right... full disclosure, cerise cassee is my favorite beer.
I don't know the NY/CT landscape well enough to direct you towards locally-made sours, but in terms of finding some easily available Gueuze bottles at your local shops - I'd target some of these Belgian options: Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Rene St. Louis Gueuze Fond Tradition Boon Oude Geuze Mariage Parfait Oude Gueuze Tilquin I think these are all solid representations of the style that won't break the bank -
They used Apricots instead of Cherries in what would have been the Kriek, it should be out in the next couple of weeks.
