Went to take a FG reading and the plastic tube fell off the bulb into the beer. My brother wanted to try and fish it out but I advised against it figuring it would only make things worse. He is worried about plastic flavors but I assured him it won't make a difference. The entire baster was sanitized. ARE WE GOOD? (We ended up siphoning out for a reading and the beer is currently cold crashing)
My guess is that whatever plastic turkey basters are made of isn't going to impart a lot of flavor, since they, ya know, make turkey basters out of it. Congratulations on your decision. Usually these questions finish with "So I plunged my arm into the beer to retrieve it. Is it infected now?"
Unless the baster was very recently used on a turkey, and not washed, you're fine. And now the basis of many jokes (all in good fun, of course...)
