Good Morning, all you Passionate Partakers of Partigyle Pilseners and Dedicated Drinkers of Double Dry-Hopped Dunkels, Happy New Beer Sunday.

Cloudy day here, warm, promising rain later. Plans are to taste some of the amazing beers that this area of the country has been producing. Used to be I was half kidding when I said "Oregon and Vermont look out, Mid Hudson Valley, New York brewers are gonna pass you by." This no longer is a joke, my area is killing it, and yesterday's releases prove that it hasn't gone unnoticed by beer lovers, who came from far and near, waiting on long lines, to try and enjoy our greatness. Four more breweries are slated to open here in next few months. Prayers do get answered.

Today is the day, and this is the place. Why not TRY a new beer today? TELL us about it. What do you taste, smell, and think? Do you LOVE it? Why? What do you love about it? Not your "cup of tea "(love mixing metaphors heheh)? What didn't you care for in the beer? Your review or a description that tells a story is greatly appreciated by all. Feel free to hopshot our heads (in homebrew fashion of course ) with linked review, pics, videos, and other world wide web wackiness to enhance our virtual tasting session.

Thanks to everyone for their participation, thus making NBS fresh, fun, and informative.

This Week's New Beer Sunday- Schneider Weisse Wiesen Edel-Weisse Tap 4

    Kelheim, Germany
    Style-Hefeweizen
    1 Pint .9 oz.
    6.2 abv

Well we got the first week of college football under our belts. Congrats to our SEC brethren Alabama, Auburn, LSU with wins against non-cream puff schools. Honestly I didn't know what to expect from Georgia, New quarterback, can the run game stay healthy for the whole season. The first half had me texting a buddy that I used to work with who I only speak to during the college football season. Me: "Georgia looks like shit. Him: Yes they do. Impressive second half and win with Todd Gurley's 293 yards.

Well I have been looking forward to trying this one from Schneider Weisse since I had the Tap 6 Aventinus. I poured the Tap 4 in my weizen glass which provided a golden cloudy appearance. I was pretty careful on my pour which produced a 2 finger fluffy white head that certainly didn't last long. The aroma and taste was a textbook hefeweizen of strong cloves, banana and very sweet. Nice summer beer. A very enjoyable beer but I much prefer the Weheinstephaner which I will try the dunkel today. Cheers.

Thanks to Cavedave for the hosting today.
Cooking and setting to host a saison dinner with some friends, looking forward to it.
But in the mean time a nice treat post breakfast.
    De Dolle Extra Export Stout
    Brouwerij De Dolle Brouwers
    Foreign / Export Stout / 9.00% ABV

    3.75/5 from SABERG
    rDev: -3.6% | rAvg: 3.89

2012 bottle poured into a modified tulip.
A - Massive active foamy cap, settles down with time. Dark color, lots of carbonation, not a gusher though.
S - Dried fruit, raisin, plum, prune a mild cocoa and leather, old leather. Has many characteristics of a Dubble
T - The dark fruit is up front, almost intense, the middle has he stout, cocoa, dark grain taste.
M - Crisp active carbonation leaves a lighter that expected mouth feel. Finish is slightly sweet and not offensive.
O - A pleasant Belgian stout, one the may well continue to develop, this bottle had 2 years and was still quite active.

    Cheers

I have two new beers for this Sunday. Just now finishing off the first one, which comes courtesy of @WesMantooth, and I have paired it in my ridiculously oversized Scottish thistle glass.

Damn, this is delicious! It's a different beer from Clown Shoes Ride the Lion (4.21 / +1.4%), or any other BBA malt-forward brews. Very nicely integrated barrel characteristics, from the bourbon (light on the front, heavy and boozy on the back-end) to the oak (present throughout as a lightly framing flavor). Obviously super malt-forward, with dark bread and fruits (figs, prunes).

Thanks a ton for this one, Corey. I'll be sure to get you back for a future NBS.

Cheers, NBSers; I'll be back later with something more my typical style (something hoppy and from the Northeast). :sunglasses:

    New Milk Stout Sunday, again
Wrapped up another epic beer tasting week. Had the pleasure of trying Double Barrel Hunahpu, and Pliny the Elder just to name a couple, along with acquiring Parabola, Velvet Merkin, and BORIS Van Wink. Most importantly, I didn't drink anything by myself. Got to share with my family, and a new true beer advocate. One of my purchases recently was this one from 3 Floyds.

Very silky, creamy, and smooth. Great balance of oats, chocolate, and sweetness. Excellent beer in it's style. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/25435/?ba=WesMantooth

Here is one of my brothers, who's good friend's dad died of ALS, dumping water on the rest of us last Sunday.

Here is what it looks like in slow motion

Looks like our plans (cookout with lots of beer) for today are going to be canceled due to rain. Might not be a bad thing. My body needs a recovery day. Hope everyone enjoys their day and their new beer.

Good morn - oops - early afternoon, fellow beer geeks and geekesses (godesses). Today for NBS and CBFBOBW+ I've chosen a tasty treat from Quebec, courtesy of @SebD - Les Trois Mousquetaires Grande Curvee Porter Baltique.

This is a very flavorful highly drinkable Baltic Porter (one of my favorite styles) which is well worth the trip to Canada if it's not available locally.

I can't rave about this enough (Seriously, I can't. I wasn't a liberal arts major) but if you like Baltic Porters or don't but can keep an open mind, this is well worth trying.

New Beer: Victory Red Thunder (Baltic Porter aged in Red Wine Barrels)

I think the 2014 version has been released this month, but this bottle i have is a 2013, so aged a year in my basement as well as probably 3 months or so in Victory red wine barrels.

I love dry red wines, the fruitiness tastes more like a slightly sweeter red wine, but oaky tannins are very present as well. Fruitiness up front, transitions into an awesome blend of oak and roasted malt, creamy cocoa flavor as well. I was surprised by the creamy mouthfeel im picking up, but at the same time it has a dry finish. I love how these flavors have blended together, wonderful red wine barrel additions while at the same time having your true baltic porter qualities.

I could only hypothesize of how a fresh bottle might taste, but my gut tells me the flavors may be more robust but independent. The year in the cellar may have mellowed and blended them together. But who knows! I'll pick up a 2014 bottle soon and drink it fresh to find out!

Cheers everyone and enjoy your sunday w/ a day off monday!

    New Chile Beer Sunday

    Greetings,
and Happy Labor Day weekend to all NBS participants. Special thanks to cavedave (and his lovely avatar of Jerry) for getting the ball rolling. As I noted last week this is the official weekend of emancipation for the spouse and I as we launched our last urchin and now for the first time in 31 years have the house to ourselves. I noted the event with a Batch 9000 last night that was truly sublime. Bittersweet it all is, as I will miss parts of child rearing, but I am tired and am looking forward to a break and some rest from raising children, and hope for capturing (or re-capturing) some of my lost youth in the next few years. Nothing is more important that the passing on of genes and character (to the best of our ability to do so), but I am ready to be done (as ambivalent as I feel).
This may be a day in which I offer up two contributions to NBS, but for now I offer this unique and intense brew that I was able to partake at a neighborhood homebrew event this morning. Intense and interesting it is, but I'm glad I gave it a go.

My musical contribution is a local artist (as in MN).

Best to all this week, in case I don't do a 2nd contribution later today/tonight. And have a safe and sane Labor Day.
