It's one of those beers that gets better as you drink more of it. I wouldn't say that it's one of my favorite wheat beers, but it's definitely one of my favorite Three Floyds beers.

My new beer for the day is Ayinger Brauweisse. Usually opt for Weinstephaner when in the mood for a heffe, but thought it was time to give Ayinger a try.

Refreshing, clean, with the right notes of banana and clove. A tick or two thinner and less complex than Weinstephaner, but still a nice representation of the style.

A perfect beer to seg between the last day of summer, and the beginning of Octoberfest season!

Musical to drink this with: Carole King's Tapestry.

Cheers to all the amazing BA's out there. I've been waiting for some time now to try this brew and it just so happens that I got this in time for week 500 of NBS so here we go.

Served out of a freshly filled (9/20/14) Hill Farmstead 750ml growler and into a HF stemmed glass.

    L) Pours a hazy, tawny/orange with a average size white head.
    S) Smells of beautiful hops and a bit of yeast thrown in there. I prefer mine a bit more citrusy, but this is still an amazing beer.
    T) This is a well balance DIPA. Not too bitter and not too malty. Again, I would like a bit more citrus, but I'm just nit picking.
    F) Nice. A bit dry.
    O) Not going to lie, this did not live up 100% to my expectations. When drinking DIPA's I have to compare to MBC Dinner, which I thought was spectacular. Would I drink it again, yes, but I would not go out of my way to acquire again.

Overall I it averages out to a 4.19

Well that would explain it. I kept trying to find the barrel notes and figured the chilies were just overbearing the flavor. I should adjust the words in my review a bit so I don't look like a fool.

I expected the hops, but thought it would be like one of the Stone bastard beers and have a bigger malt bill. It's a nice beer now that I know what to expect.

So far it's my favorite gose. I have enjoyed an embarrassing amount of this beer, it is the perfect beer to drink while you are doing other things on a warm day.

Time to relive a recent favorite, thanks to @reidjoshua for the past tasting awhile back and @HowBoutDan for the inspriation:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    look: 4 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4 | Final Score: 3.99

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. Had before at @reidjoshua tasting, but enjoyed it enough to get a bottle for myself to review. Thanks to @HowBoutDan for the inspiration who originally brought the bottle.

Creamed light tan head of about a finger. Holding on nicely with a solid cap and creamy appearance. Body color is a very dark brown to nearly black body. Glass laces with a creamy consistency and ring like lacing.

As before I remember, this nails the peanut butter character so perfectly. Nut crunchy oils of peanut and chocolate. A real nice toasty sweetness that doesn't border on sugar or peanut butter cup ridiculous quality. Nice little bit of char to match out, creamy vanilla sense to match also. Easily the best peanut butter stout/porter I have ever had to date. Just real impressive.

Palate comes out to match, but has a body more like a subdued American stout or light porter. Big charring roast, and even a good amount of hop bitterness. Much of the sweetness and distinct aroma doesn't come out as easily on the palate. Chewy tobacco roast, with a hint of peanut goodness matching on the finish, but also with lots of bitter oiled pine hop bitter and astringency to match. Big hop bitter finish which needs to be tone down a bit to let the aromas

Overall it's not by far an amazing stout, but has one of the best aromas and bouquets for a peanut butter forward beer I have had. It is however one of the few stouts I wish had a bit more sweetness to it instead.

Well, it didn't take long. I walked into The Local (which happens to be owned by the folks who own Menace Brewing) and there were several new brews available. Which is nice, because it's move-in weekend for our local college (WWU), and the new young scholars are everyfreakingwhere. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32830/138197/

My friend Steve is a singer-somgwriter, and a few years a go wrote this song. Our mutual friend Shawnee, who now lives in Austin, recently did this version. BTW, Shawnee has been working with Joss Whedon recently. Go Shawnee!

NBS is always a treat happy 500 to all who have enticed and entertained over these years.
Today is Clusters last Stand, I see Smakawhat is on the case already.

Review was at 3.78 overall, but a real treat!

Poured from a recent bottle into a modified tulip glass.
A - Wild flower honey golden color, gentle carbonation, capped by a soft vanilla cap.
S - A fabulous blend of citrus, melon, and spring spruce. The nose shifts as the beer warms. Fresh
warm grass, and hints of lemon rise.
T - Soft lemon drop, light hints of rising sourdough, and finally those tropical notes close the deal.
F - Medium bodied, coats the palate, and lingers with oily resins. The feel is weighted to the finish.
O - The Cluster hop is such a treat, the body of the beer is straight down the middle, no real frills, no real risk.
Frankly a nice reprieve from the tropical, or piney behemoths out these days.

    Cheers all

Next up, was a fresh hop brew, also from Menace: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32830/138203/ . Sadly, The Local has now installed a TV, and there's a bunch of loud football fans ruining what was pleasantly quiet early afternoon. Fuck the Seacows, fuck the NFL, and especially fuck that fuckhead Richard Sherman.

Thanks to malty, mattcrill, utopiajane and cavedave and all the BAs who played a part in getting NBS up and running and keeping it going. NBS is the best of the best when it comes to BA.com -- we're lucky to have it and I tell everybody who asks about BA.com that NBS is the reason to get on here.

My NBS 500 new beer from Firestone Walker:

I've only tried Velvet Marlin once, but I loved it -- needed a good brew in a tight spot at a bar, and she did the job nicely. Velvet Merkin is not as good ... yes, I said it, and I mean it. :grinning:

Let me explain: It's not as good to *my* particular tastes. It's good, real good, and as it's warmed up here, it's getting really vanilla warm and cozy with a lot more lighter sweetness, so nobody's spitting on the Merkin. Also, I love the great barrel-aged notes in a beer that's under 10% ABV (only 8.5%, in fact).

But the Merkin is just a bit darker than I prefer -- licorice/raisin lovers might love this beer, and it's got tons of darker dried fruits and some quadrupel-like qualities.

    My review:

On a less-serious note, how 'bout them Cowboys?

8-8 is still possible! Yes! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again to our founders, maintainers and participants in NBS. Happy 500th!

    Cheers!

    Y
You don't want that. You really don't. I'm going to a brewers night later, so probably no more new brews until then, but at least now I'm sitting in a very pleasant beer garden, at one of my local breweries, where it's quiet. I'll have to make do with beers I've had before.
