Good preevening BAs! I waited until my son showed up today so I could split my NBS offering with him. I'm a big fan of Old Raspy so this seemed like a good bet. It was.

Very nice but I don't know about the $ 1.42/fl oz price point. I don't really think it is that much better than the regular Old Rasputin.

The smell on this one is muted but fruity, malty and mildly floral.
This one tastes of dark fruits, especially raisins, dates and figs all with caramel malt throughout. A wee bit of hot alcohol perhaps.
The mouth feel is creamy and fluffy but with a slight carbonic acid that detract a bit.
    Still not bad.

16th button over at the top (near the smiley face and the little landscape). Click that button. Now you can paste in a url from a youtube video.

Johan Lanquist added such a nice touch to the vocals on this album. Too bad he ended up doing Hair Metal in Sweden after this album.

You hit the nail on the head. While reg Raspy's price point is on point, the BA version is really a stretch.

The Chiefs game is on. Continuing with the dark beers. Thanks to @rpbuckeye for this one. Very coffee forward and easy drinking at 9% ABV. Solid beer for sure

    New Spicy Milk Stout Sunday

First time NBS'er here, so please be gentle. I actually read about this beer on the plane to Cali for a work trip a couple weeks ago, and I immediately knew it was something I would have to seek out (no Stone distro here). A couple bottles managed to find their way into my suitcase, and I decided it was high time to see what the fuss was about. After reading some negative comments this morning I didn't quite know what to expect, but now that I've tried it I'm sold. The smell is intoxicating, they should make a Yankee candle that smells like this. The initial taste reminds me of Bomb! but the aftertaste is all cinnamon. I have to agree with what @Roguer commented regarding the cinnamon needing to be toned down slightly. All in all, I'm a little overwhelmed with all the different flavors but I definitely know I want more. Kudos to Stone for making this flavor combination accessible to the masses, it seems that all the other stouts with this theme end up being extremely limited and hard to find

My next beer is from the cellar. I have a hard time letting beers sit, but that is probaly a good thing. Stone Southern Charred starts off sweet with brown sugar, molasses, and some dark fruit. The vanilla and butterscotch stand out more and there are notes of bourbon and oak. The hops are muted from the Double Bastard base with some noticeable alcohol. Has some Old ale and Scotch ale qualities.

This was really nice and shows you just how versatile Double Bastard can be. It had some qualities that reminded me of a old ale or barrel aged scotch ale.

Wow, looks like Stone is owning NBS today!

Man, I agree 200%: the Yankee candle idea is awesome, and it definitely reminds me of a drily spiced (i.e. cinnamon) Bomb!. I much prefer Bomb!, but like you said, this is a remarkably priced and accessible version of a spiced stout.

Oh, and welcome aboard; great first post!

    Cheers!

Welcome to team Sunday. Now you are stuck here. While I think the pepper heat is just about right, I too agree the cinnamon could be dialed back just a tad. I still seem to be in the minority (as in alone) when it comes to my biggest issue with it though. The lack of thickness. To me that would make a huge difference (also with their coffee milk stout). Still have bought 2 already though. Great price.

    New PAW PAW Sunday!
Greetings NBSers! I've had Buckeye's Paw Paw before but this is a new one from Ohio favorite Jackie O's.
Good Paw Paw flavor, unfortunately the rest of the beer doesn't quite match.
375ml bottle poured into a pint glass (3.7 rdiv -2.9%)
A: Light wheat color with a creamy 1+ finger head that lingers for quite some time (4)
S: The fruitness and creaminess of the pawpaw definitely comes through along with some wheat/malt notes (4)
T: Definitely paw paw but a touch medicinal. The wheat and something a touch herbal come through but the finish also tastes a bit bitter/off (3.5)
    M: Light-bodied but creamy (3.75)
O: I really want to like this beer and can taste the paw paw. There's just something else on the palate I can't pinpoint that takes it down a notch (3.75)

Welcome, excellent post, really nailed it if you ask me. Great pic as well.

I just tried it recently with friends and we all agreed the cinnnamon a bit over the top.
