For what it's worth, I have the opposite opinion of Old Chub v Nitro. I greatly enjoy the nitro version more. It's softer, and I feel it brings out notes of dark fruit and cherries just a little more.

People I talk to seem to be split about 50/50 as to which they prefer (BA ratings: similarly split, 4.01 to 3.96, in favor of people like you who prefer the regular version :stuck_out_tongue:). I definitely agree it's worth a "new" entry for NBS.

    Cheers!

Rainy Sunday afternoon in the deep south. I'm not sure if it is intentional or an accident, but one of the distributors dropped off a serious load of Ballast Point stuff in our area this week. Seemed like a logical choice for NBS.

Following @Roxie_B, I'm starting off with Habanero Sculpin.

I'm a big fan of the base beer, but the peppers completely dominate this one. I like all things spicy, and glad it, but will probably not buy another. Really glad I just bought the single instead of the six pack. I am looking forward to the sixer of Grapefruit Sculpin however...

    New American Porter Sunday

Hello all! It's a beautiful October day here in the Milwaukee area! I can't believe that in a few weeks I will be living in Wisconsin a year - time flies! A few weeks ago I went on the Sprecher's tour. I wasn't very impressed with it. To be honest, I much preferred the Lakefront tour. Anyway, I picked up some beer while there, including the Generation Porter. It's a raspberry/cocoa flavored porter. I chose it for today's "new beer" and to be honest wasn't too impressed, though I think it is decent/"good enough" to drink. I can see why it has a varied opinion about it. I'm glad I bought it, but wouldn't get it again.

Greetings from a partly cloudy Fourth Corner NBSers! I'm actually not minding some clouds, because it's not raining. Yesterday, the second Saturday in October, traditionally marks the start of towns annual "Rain Festival", it continues until July 5th. So any day between now and then without rain is a bonus.

Yesterday I ventured forth to the 14th largest city in America to help Fremont Brewing celebrate the opening of the expanded version of their Urban Beer Garden. I was joined by several other BAs, including @John_M,@TheBungyo, and @Kurmaraja. Also present, but not making the meet-up were @distantmantra and @BuckeyeOne. Many nice brews were drank, traded and purchased for take home. TheBungyo, his GF Amanda and I went to Machine House Brewery as well. It's in the old Ranier brewery, and they make cask ales exclusively. We had a very tasty fresh hop brew.

After catching the bus home, where a friend happened to catch the same Greyhound, so we shared a couple cans of Fremonts The Sister ImpIPA, it was on to the annual Blood and Bruises Ball for the local roller derby league I volunteer with. Those ladies filled me full of Prime Rib, baked potatoes, Mac n Cheese, and free beer and shots. Thankfully, they also paid a local cab company for all our rides home. By 11pm, I was done, and slept well last night.

Starting my NBS is a tasty New Glarus brew, courtesy of Kurmaraja: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590/123810/ . It was a good week for me, because it included a visit to my town by Americas greatest active song writer, Jonathan Byrd:

    New Seasonal IPA Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
Seems a few breweries are going for hop blending that matches the seasons. The first, and still probably the best, is SN Celebration ale, but this year Goose Island has been very clearly hitting the recipes to match the weather. Today I review the autumn blend and it is my favorite so far. The color, aroma and taste all hold sensations to match the season. Really nice and solid IPA. It makes up for how bad the Vikings and my fantasy team are doing today.:grimacing::stuck_out_tongue::wink:

Today on new beer Sunday I'm drinking Xocoveza.
I thought it was very good being that I make a concoction of mexican style cocoa myself.
Its easy I start with a instant cocoa mix add milk hershey kiss chili powder or cayene powder. Sometime smoked paprika.
With a couple of big fat marshmellows to top.
This beer is very tasty with a roasted malt base chocolate and cinnamon/nutmeg being most pronounced.
I was hoping for some more pepper heat.
And I thought the body would be thicker too.

I had that one the other night, and your impression pretty lines up with mine- right down to the tangerine My notes from that night:
"Aroma is slight, with tangerine, light caramel and fir trees, but overall quite airy. Alcohol can be detected deep down in the nose. The palate has a moderate fullness and good balance that starts to lean heavily on the bitterness at the end. Mid-palate is moderately resiny and citrusy, becoming biscuity which leads into a lingering bitterness. Pleasant and easy drinking."

Good morning NBS stalwarts and loyalists, and I'm pleased to be in you presence once again! I picked up the SN Fall Sampler yesterday while I spent the day in Tucson with my senior in high school, number one daughter, honor student. I gave her a day shopping because of her 4.4 GPA and an "A" on her Calculus midterm while Dad did his own damage at the Total Wine. I'm extraordinarily proud of her, but I digress.... [IMG]

Now I'm on to the first beer of the sampler, SN Vienna Lager. My, my, this is a tasty lager with a beautiful golden hue, and about one finger of lacing. Medium body for the style, hoppy, a tiny bit of skunk but not much, which I like, and the standard biscuity, crackery profile with perhaps a touch of citrus in the background. I like it, and it goes down very smooth. You were right on this one, #TongoRad, but then you always are when it comes to Euro Styles.

    Good Afternoon NBS!
I have had many new beers over the last week or so, but I held on this one just for today. My local store had got a case of it and it was gone within a day. I was lucky enough to snag the last one. It was just under its 100 day freshness. Says bottled on the 7/9/2014.
This is a good IPA and nice use of an experimental hop variety. I was expecting it to be a little more citrusy. I still thought it was worth saving for today.

Anyway my team is on a bye week, but the Royals are up 2-0 ALCS and headed back to the K. I'll be tuning in tomorrow.
It's cloudy typical fall day here in NW WA minus the drizzle of course. Looks like I'll end mowing the lawn today since it isn't raining. Bummer for me.

it has the fruitiness of regular Jai Alai (which i think is one of the best year round IPA's) and is also complimented by slight earthy and vanilla notes from the oak, the little bit of hop bitterness found in regular jai alai is completely absent and replaced by subtle dryness. i wish everyone could try this beer.

    Productive day.

Roto-tilled the garden for next year. Spread some winter rye for the deer. Fertilized and mulched the asparagus garden, and planted some garlic for next year. Finished it all up by harvesting enough ghost peppers to kill a small village.

Now to enjoy this exquisite brew. The first thing that gets me is the intoxicating aroma as I opened the bottle, sour cherries. Taste follows suite. This is one hell of a brew folks.

    Cheers.

My ghost peppers are coming in pretty late, too. I shared a roasted one with my cousin yesterday, and the flavor was exceptional. Are you doing something special with those? They'd make a killer sauce, I'd imagine.

59 degrees and sunny in the third-largest city in the Pacific Northwest. As alluded to in my post-breakfast post, I spent yesterday listening to college football while . My Eagles overcame the loss of their all-world QB and won convincingly on the road. Then my Huskies got it done in what might be their first decent, well-rounded game against a Cal team that I expected to be better after scoring 60 points against WSU last week. If the Seahawks win today (not a given considering the resurgence of the Cowboys - I've always hated the 'boys but can't help be impressed by their improvement this year), I've got a 2010 Abyss standing by!

After deep cleaning my new CPAP machine (I have sleep apnea - before getting the CPAP recently, I more or less have gone without any deep sleep for a number of years!) for the first time, My first beer of the day is a DIPA from Brooklyn, appropriate considering I've been watching the Jets while listening to the Seahawk pre-game show. So far I'd say my experience has been better than that of the Jets, but now I see they are belatedly making it interesting!

I received this as an extra from a trade with ShroudOfDoom, and he warned me it's as much of a barleywine as it is a DIPA, and I must concur. It's also awesome, due in no small part to the 12oz can (which is of a very cool, retro design by the way), which I think is the perfect serving size for such a beer. Resin is perfectly named! Thanks Nathan!
