My buddy is heading to Philly for the weekend, and a bunch of us are throwing him money to bring back a couple boxes of stuff we can't get around here (Northwest PA). Looking for suggestions on stuff that's available in the Philly market that we might want to really look for. All recommendations welcomed.

Here are the ones we've already thought of:

    Russian River
    The Bruery
    Allagash
    Jolly Pumpkin
    Lost Abbey
    Boulevard
    New Belgium

Not sure what you can't get where you are. How about Cigar City?

New Belgium does not distribute in PA.
Boulevard doesn't either, if I am not mistaken.

Boulevard has just started. Have half a case of Tank 7 in the basement.

    We get Boulevard now.

and I don't know if you guys get Neshaminy Creek up there but their IPA county line and their new double IPA a shape of hops to come are worth seeking out.

Since you live in NW PA, I assume Save-On Craft Beer & Wine in Mentor, OH is close to you. A lot of this stuff, and a whole lot more, you could find there. And at way better prices than Philly will ever be able to match.

Beyond that I would suggest picking up beers from small brewpubs that never get outside of Philly (or even outside distro at all) like Tired Hands, Forest & Main, Nodding Head and so on.

How about taking a look if they can find some of the new Pizza Boy bottles... I'm thinking of Bean Dream, specifically...

I believe Nodding Head closed last night...re-opening in a new (unknown) spot at some future time... Agree on the TH growlers!

I can't speak to right now, but I saw cases of Bean Dream at distributors approximately two weeks ago

Sounds like your buddy is driving down. Not sure how badly you want to get your hands on some Lips of Faith stuff, but if your buddy isn't adverse to a short detour, tell him to head on down to State Line in Elkton, Maryland. They typically have a very large selection of NB stuff, plus they'll have good prices for everything else on your list as well (if you go, be sure to get their free club card as well. It'll save you some serious coin if you end up buying a bunch of stuff there, and it sounds like you probably will). Of course you won't find any RR or Lost Abbey stuff there (as they don't distribute in Maryland), but you should find an excellent selection of everything else on your shopping list.

Depending on traffic, it's typically no more than a 45 minutes drive down to State Line each way. Let me know if you decide to go, and I'll beermail you directions on how to get there without having to pay the stupid Deleware I-95 toll at the border. :-)

They have Lips of Faith down there? The store is called State Line?

Good thought as well @John_M , if it's a possibility! I make that drive somewhat regularly (all back roads haha) and always check a bunch of stuff off my list with each visit...

It's listed in the BA directory, so you can read some of the BA reviews about the store (State Line). As you probably know, with Pa's "by the case" distribution system, retail prices for individual bottles or 6 packs can often times be quite high. One more reason to shop at State Line, as prices there can often times be signficantly cheaper than what you'll pay in Philly.

If you go, be SURE to get their club card. I live in Eugene, Oregon now, and I still never leave home without it. :-)

You can check their web site to see what they have in stock before going. They seem to do a fairly good job of keeping it current.
