Breaking into a third new beer this Sunday, while I watch the tail end of the middle NFL games. This one comes courtesy of @klittle250 as a completely unexpected extra, and wow am I liking it.

Prairie Pirate Bomb! spiced imperial stout aged in rum barrels.

From the get-go, this beer announces itself through the aroma. Coffee, rum, and chocolate are forefront. Everything you'd expect is present on the nose. The taste reverses the dominance, but everything is otherwise present: chocolate presents up front; coffee and rum provide accents; peppers give it a fiery kick on the back-end.

This beer is basically everything I love about Bomb!, with the added bonus of the rum (which, in addition to a nice touch of flavor, adds a bit of alcohol heat that the base beer otherwise does not have, despite both clocking in at 14%). It's very, very good.

4.43 / -2.2% I likely rated this beer harsher than others simply due to how much I love Bomb!; my expectations for this were sky high, and it largely met them.

    Cheers, NBSers!

Tonight I'm enjoying Oil of Aphrodite from Jackie O's. These guys really love there double stouts, and they know how to make them. It's a great beer, thick and viscous as expected without sitting like a brick. There's a certain nuttiness to it, but I'd love to see a little more, and maybe some more walnut specifically if possible. The addition of Belgian candied syrup is an extremely interesting one and really works for it; it doesn't come in too strongly and adds the right kind of sweetness to complement the numerous different malts.
I'm going to really change things up and go with an Anderson Valley Gose later tonight. I'll be giving my palate a little time to adjust first, though.

    Hey Y'all!
Happy New Stout Sunday to you all. I am late to the party but I did get here after getting shut of all these dishes and left overs packed away. (In one way or another!)
This is one of the best Imperial Stouts out there. I found it notable for faint traces of nuttiness and roasted acorns? If there ain't some oat in there somewhere I'll eat something icky. The thing I like best about this is a thick full body that'll definitely curl your toes if you are after something to coat your mouth and stay with you for a spell.
    Cheers!

    New "Imperial Golden Stout" Sunday

Well, my other new beer for the day wasn't nearly as good as the first. Just struggled to finish a bottle of Stone Stochasticity Project Master of Disguise Imperial Golden Stout: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/147/146166/?ba=bluejacket74

I probably rated it higher than I should have. That's the last of my new beers for today, I'll be checking back on here later to see everyone else's new beers. Have a good night everyone!

    New Brown Ale Sunday

Here's a leftover from Thanksgiving; unfortunately the winter storm curtailed our Wednesday night fun, and we couldn't get to all of the beers we wanted to on Thursday alone. This suits me just fine, because I don't think I could've fully appreciated this one at a certain point:
Ommegang Upside Brown- Farmhouse Brown Ale

Very delicate nose- much more floral than I expected, along with a sweet lychee quality. It also delivers a lot of hay and barnyard in the background, but the overall impression is lighter than that implies. A hint of spice rounds things out after a bit of swirling.

The barnyard brett comes to the fore on the palate. Not only that, but it all of a sudden seems like the beer has made a 180 degree turn, and not for the better. Oaky tannins are overwhelming and totally incongruent with the lighter flavors suggested. A touch of raisiny fruit and yeasty spiciness take over on a nice long finish, especially after the clumsy middle.

Halfway through my glass the astringent tea-like character is fading as my palate acclimates to it, leaving a rather straightforward woody/raisiny flavor in its place. In the end this is pretty OK, but lacking in complexity. The pieces aren't really adding up for me, either, making for a pretty disappointing B- (3.25).

    New American Pale Ale Sunday

Hello all! Cold and getting colder here in Wisconsin. Today's brew was my first from this brewery: Lucette - Ride Again. It comes in pint size can four-packs. It's very pleasant - It has a nice hop character, but is balanced well. Enjoyable!

Firestone Walker Anniversary Ale XVIII, first time having any of FW's Anniversary Ales, only wanted to try this when I found out it's 38% Parabola (which I love), and it's amazing. Big bourbon, sweet aromas on the nose, smells like candied fruit, same big flavors on the taste, a sweet dark fruit on the back end, dry finish, there is some alcohol burn but I bet that would subside with some age, dry finish, very smooth, very syrupy texture, it's a winner and worth $24, going to try and pick up a few bottles to cellar.

I'm a bit late to the party but none the less have been waiting to try this all week!
Smuttynose has beer been, to my knowledge, offered in NorCal until recently and having only previously had Finestkind thanks to @totalbangover, I enjoyed the hell out of it.
A couple of weeks ago I saw this on my local BevMo shelf and knew I had to try it...no regrets!

When I think of the style, Aventinus comes to mind and while this isn't Aventinus, it's sure as he'll not far behind, especially from an American brewery. Great hue, great flavor (zero head) and great nose.
I'm happy to grab this again based on this experience however as I type I realize the 9+% ABV is creeping up on me.
    Hoppy NBS ya'll!

I feel like the rum smooths out the rough edges on Bomb, but doesn't add quite as much difference in flavor as you'd expect. Glad you enjoyed it

Greetings fellow NBSers! A sunny and chilly day here in the Fourth Corner, high around 32, but a big step up from yesterday, when strong winds blew all day, shredding some of our tents at work. We knew they were old, and probably weren't gonna make it through the winter, but we thought they had a bit more life. I've been out in this chill the last three days, as the brewery I help out at has been hosting a Christmas tree sale in our beer garden. We buy fresh trees from a local tree farm, and sell them for less than any place around. Out of our end of the sale, we pay for the replacement trees to planted, and make a nice donation to a local salmon group, to help restore habitat, by paying for more trees. Everybody, people, salmon, bears, eagles, and the general ecology wins!!

A bit of a surprise first New Beer today, it's been on and off tap a few times, but I hadn't had it. A pleasant little local Saison: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32830/147948/

Greetings fellow NBS ers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. In last 7 days we have had it all, hiking weather when the temp hits 70, 14 inches of snow, and today it started warm and sunny, and during the day clouds rolled in, temps went down to normal level, and a bit of rain fell lightly. On the other hand we have this beer which is truly a one trick pony, one designed to be just that. Had the cascade SMASH they make and it was quite a bit better than this one, hope the Columbus hop iteration, now in fridge, is on a level with the Cascade. This is one to not bother with. Hope you also have an American Beer in your glass, preferably one better tasting than this. Cheers!

A wheat doppelbock? There IS such a thing?

    Yes, I'll have one!

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/72/1934/?ba=Premo88

The wheat definitely bites into that big chunk of bread malt flavor typical of the doppelbock and somehow turns it into a fruitier Belgian quad. Seriously, if this beer had floaties in it and I was drinking it blind, I might swear it was Rochefort 10.

It's super sweet, almost candy-like, with loads of dark-fruit flavor and a bit of grape/wine to it. Like a good Belgian, it's also got a lot of carbonation, which I'd argue it needs to keep it from feeling like molasses. All in all a fantastic beer, one I might taste test side-by-side with a good quad just to see what there is to see. And this has me interested in trying more "dark" wheat brews ... very cool experience. The wheat is very subdued, more like a supporting character than the leading role it takes in it's paler versions -- no banana from the wheat iin this eisbock, just a slight tartness and what seems like a mixing effect on the other notes.

Rated it 4.14 (-2.4% rDev) ... probably should rate it higher, but I'll let the Review ****s form a committee over it.

    Congrats to @BeerDrinkersWorldTour!

And that's quite the creepy X-mas ornament, @Greywulfken ... hopefully, Ripley kills it before the end of the movie. :grinning:

    Cheers!

    -------------------------------------------

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.

A hazy bright brass yellow, more towards lemon but a little darker with a real nice fluffy white four finger head. Pock marked top, soapy clumped retention, quite odd looking but hanging around quite a bit there. Pretty aggressive.

Nice hop forward nose. Hints of mellow pine and spruce, with a juiced front slightly on the hop angle. Slight hints of pineapple a bit as well.

Palate works out nicely. Good malted light body with some sweet depth. Good hints of honey and pineapple juice, with a great fruity finish. Light bodied notes of fruit and juiced tropics really hit. Airy herbal to pine spruce like finish as well.

Pretty solid amped up blonde, and certainly one of the better ones I've had.

    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 | Final Score: 4

    ----------------------------------------

Pretty surprised by this one, really not a big American blonde ale fan they come off like some inferior Kolsch weird thing, but this one sort of has a good hop forward angle that seems to work with the malt bill and fruity character considerably nicely I must say.

Greetings to all you mavens of malted beverages.

The weather here in SE PA is a good bit warmer than it has been the last few days. A son and his wife were here for a day or so and helped out with some yard work so the yard and rain gutters are now pretty much ready for winter.

This Sunday's new beer for me is the Andechser Dopplebock Dunkel, which if you've had it, you know is an outstanding example of the style and a beer which has only recently been imported into the States. As I expected from the reviews this beer is is nicely malty, with a truly wonderful balance between sweetness and a light touch of bitterness and dryness in the long finish. Sipping on this beer is reminding me of how much I enjoy Doppelbocks and convincing me that in their own way the Dopplebocks brewed in SEPA also have much to offer.
